What did you take away from the win against Stanford?

I do not think so .But,why worry about that ? This team right now is not a Top 25 team ....it has a long way to go to do that .

Exactly, they have not yet earned to be in the top 25. Perhaps if they win the next 3. The Kentucky game should be a good one at home.

Takeaways......

1. This team showed that it is capable.

2. This team showed that it is capable in spite of its coaching staff.

3. This team with the right staff, can be the former HS AA's that they were when they got here.

4. The presser said a lot without saying a lot. Nared said that they spend too much time worrying about missing shots. Diamond said that it's laughable to think that diving and make plays is an anomaly and not the norm.

5. There is no reason other than coaching why this team is not a top five team right now. We can point to DD's demeanor and body language all day or the lack of production from Reynolds or Russell, etc. It comes down to coaching the talent and getting the most out of it. That includes managing these young personalities too which is big at this level. Get them all on the same page and not thinking individually and coach the game and what works and make adjustments when necessary.....

I don't know. I have been critical of Holly but it seems inconsistent for her to take all the blame for poor showings and then on good days, to say the players did it despite Holly.

Realistically, the difference between this game and Texas was the Texas coach made good adjustments to the LVs defense pressure whereas Tara did not. Her plan to attack the LV's zone played into the LV's hands because we had the better athletes on the court.

It's could be that the defense played better because they learned from the Texas game not that Tara did not make effective adjustments. Maybe the Lady VOLS are improving and they are learning that talent alone is not enough....they have to play hard too.

Indeed, that is a possibility and I hope you are correct in that assessment. The next few games will tell.

I hope this is the move in the right direction. we should be 8-4 heading to Sec play , It could have been worst. Now Come sec play if we can beat Kentucky go to vandy and win and beat Ms state then we will be on a roll. The thing I saw was we have good plays. but we miss too many shots and the ones we should shoot we pass, but more cofidence in beating ranked teams will help . We only lost to kentucky by 1 last year and we are at home so > I hope we can win this one as well

During Holly's post game interview, she mentioned something about holding the team back due to her concern of the injury bug. She said she something about letting them loose.

Did anybody else hear that?

I believe that toughness we've been looking for in previous games was put on hault, until last night.

yea, I heard that. :(

She thinks they just had to show up to win? They did, back when we had a HOF coach.

I think she was talking about practice and not the game. I do believe that the way you practice bleeds over to how you play the game.

Whether you love her or hate her...if you're a LadyVols true fine and a true fan of Women's basketball...you have to be happy for Holly Warwick. If you don't feel she contributed toward this key win...I feel sorry for you!

She was referring to going from 2 hours to 3 for practice sessions. The length of practices was what she was "holding back"

Yes I heard that and it will be important for us fans to watch to hold the players and coaches accountable.

Too true and too pragmatic for many on this board.

I took it as she didn't want them going all out either in practice or games. Just coast around until the 4th period and hope to luck out a win. :(

If thats the case great job to flip the script Coach! You can't coach/play scared, if an injury is going to happen it will happen, let them loose and just coach um up!

That's the only explanation that can fit their narrative of Holly being a terrible coach. Success can never be attributed to her.

If you're scared,,,,Buy a dog

Just had to go there.

Seriously,
HW did one of her best jobs.... We coaches often have to follow our own advice and "let the game come to us, instead of forcing it"/// She didn't do anything to interrupt the game's flow. . . .Her next achievement needs to be how to "initiate" that flow.

This game reminded me of our tournament run last year. The defense was good or the other team's offense was bad. Sometimes it's hard to tell which but I'll give us the benefit of the doubt.

Our offense however was not good. It never has been and never will be IMO. I blame the coaching staff.

We can probably beat most teams outside the top 5 if we bring a solid defensive effort and rely on talent alone on offense. Against teams who know what they are doing like Notre Dame, they will make our bad offense look like a train wreck creating a minimum of 15 turnovers and subsequently beat us.

As much as I'd love to be wrong, I've watched the offense for 5 years and it's just all we're ever going to get until a new coach is hired.
