What do you realistically expect for the Vandy game?

What do I expect?

Well I expect Tiny to jump offisides at least twice, once when it really hurts.

I expect our running game to be pretty poor as they will put 7 or 8 in the box and cover our wideouts man up 1 on 1.

I expect the D to give up a cupcake TD pass to Vandy because we either completely blew the coverage or we completely forgot how to tackle the receiver.

I expect the DEs to get sealed inside and the RB from Vandy to burn us outside more than I care to watch.

I expect Dobbs to have some big rushing gains up the middle after dropping back to pass; but not be in sync with his receivers again.

I expect at least one big play for Vandy on special teams of 40 or more yards because we seem to always give that special teams play up.

In the end, I expect it to come down to a late FG attempt. Will Palardy do it or will he walk away from UT with a FAIL on his kicking resume while here?

Do you like those odds to win this sucker? I am not comfortable with them.

If we lose to Vandy at Neyland, I realistically expect the sh!t to hit the fan. It will be ugly in Knoxville. Uglier than last year, when firing Dooley appeased the fanbase. Losing this year will bring doubt, not hope.

Same problems for UT's Defense: Weak pass rush, poor pursuit by LBs and safties and Coleman giving up a lot of yardage in front of him as he loosely covers their WRs. I expect the Vols to struggle stopping Matthews at WR and Vandy's wildcat package and if Carta-Samuels is healthy, he will have some success scrambling out of the pocket.

On offense, the Vols still have no homerun threat to score on a long play but they will have success between the 20s but they continue to struggle to run the ball in the red zone and Dobbs has not shown the ability to be effective throwing the ball in the red zone. I look for Palardy to kick 3 or 4 FGs.

All year, Vandy has played hard and that cannot be said for the Vols. The Vols will need some breaks and have to win the turnover battle to win this game. The OL should allow the running game to be effective and the Vols should be able to control the clock. Dobbs has to show marked improvement in his ability to read the defense and make some plays down the field. If he can do that, the Vols have a shot at winning this one.

I totally agree with this! I'm not convinced tiny can play by the rules. I'm not convinced our mindset is right for winning. It'll be better next year that I am convinced of

Hmm and I expect that you're on a lot of people's ignore list because on stupid negative posts like this one.

1982Alum, you bring up some great points based on what we've seen from the team this season. All of the points you make are legitimate concerns and items that hopefully have been given a lot of attention during the bye week.

On the positive note, if the game comes down to Palardy, I like the Vols chances.

I, along with many agree with 1982's post.

Hmmm sorry you feel that way. Kind of sad that you and others are comparing Vandy to the teams that have beaten us. You obviously think that Vandy as a team, is somehow on par with Bama, AU, Mizzou and Oregon.

So I am curious, are you agreeing with what he said basing your opinion on the last 3 games?

It's a tough game to predict because I'd say it hinges on the health of Vanderbilt's QB Carta-Samuels and Krause. Jordan Matthews is unstoppable, it's crazy to think what he would have done if the Vandenburg and Boyd problems off-field didn't happen. Vandy's been without a legit TE but Carta-Samuels has still put up Cutler-type numbers. For my money, Matthews is better than Evans and is the best receiver in the country, but he won't be bringing home the Biletnikoff.

I'd expect the Vols to lean heavily on the read-option. It's been Vanderbilt's biggest weakness over James Franklin's coaching stint. Expect 8 in the box from Vandy and some pressure from the secondary. I wouldn't expect much deep from Dobbs. Vandy's secondary has ball-hawked the last few games, and their offense hasn't had to do much to win, so I'd rely on a much-improved Palardy to boot'em deep, not expect a ton of points, and force Vandy's offense to move the ball.

I'd expect Vandy, if Carta-Samuels is comfortable, to go deep early in the game. I'd expect Neyland, after last year, will be rocking pre-game. Vandy has started slow all year long and UT's secondary hasn't really improved much from last year's despicable performance. Vandy has finally got it's rushing attack settled down to two guys. The biggest threat, to me, is Brian Kimbrow. He reminds me of Chris Johnson. He'll run 10-12 times and get stuffed, but he can hit it one time just right and see the checkerboards.

I think it should be a quality game to watch, the weather looks like crap, I'll say it'll be decided by a late score, I'm really just looking forward to some Barley's Taproom, been a while...

It's not that Vandy is playing great; it's that we are playing poorly. We seem to have lost our confidence, motivation and fire-- even at home. I don't sense intensity and determination from the team or the coaches. Recruiting is all well and good, and next year may look brighter, but we have two games left to play this year-- games that mean a lot to this fanbase.

This post sums it up perfectly. Honestly intensity and fire were two things that I never thought would be lacking from a team coached by Butch Jones. I am very concerned with the lack of either the past few games.

I agree. We've lost our mojo. CBJ's press conference had a subdued vibe. He seemed to have a lot more confidence in Vandy than in our team, especially our seniors. If we don't want it, we won't win it.

Exactly.
I feel for Butch. It has got to be difficult to deal with a group of players that have been molded into believing that they are less than the opposition and that it is okay to roll over and die when faced with adversity. I am sure that Butch has never had to deal with a more defeatist attitude in his career.

Maybe the players are just beat up emotionally and physically from the brutal stretch of games. They needed a break. I think we are going to see a fired up UT team that is going to come out and play with intensity. I just honestly think the past 3 games really got to the players.

We will see. I could be wrong but I think we see a different team on Saturday.

Well coached?

Convenient that Dobbs' big statement game comes against Vandy, not any of the quality teams he played.

interesting.

Dobbs has started all of two games. If he has a good game against Vanderbilt it will be against one of the best secondary's in the SEC.

Ignore away GravyTrain. I'll chalk it up to another sunshine pumper who can't honestly look at his own team.

I would love the Vols to roll 44-0 the next two weeks but we are not playing like a team that can do that. The last 3 losses are as much a case of us losing the game as it is of the opponent actually beating us. Mizzou and Auburn games we literally gave away due to poor play; especially on D. You can't allow a team to run for 444 yards against you and consider yourself even a fair team. Face it; we have sucked since mid year.

And the thought of going to a Toilet Bowl game is by no means a lot of inspiration to do better. Maybe we are better off losing these last two games and closing the door on this season and this crop of Vols. I think highly of the Vols but this team stinks and some of the players are not typical Vol talent we are used to seeing in years past when we were good and playing for titles and championships.

Though it may be close early, later on I expect to be feeling a sense of embarrassment and guilt for how badly we pull away and beat them.

How can we be better off by losing the last two games? Maybe you can explain how. On the other hand, the players and team will decide this by their performance in the last two games.
