Nice tryProbably number 12, much like the gaps in the football offense, same gaps, inconsistent play, poor ball handling, middle school turnovers by Chaz and Igor, might struggle with State, will struggle with Auburn, could be out of the top 20 this time next week.
Tennessee offense is easy to defend when Mayshack is no threat to score from the perimeter, his defender drops off on Lanier, maybe boxes Z on one side of the floor, not sure how Barnes fixes an easy 5 on 4 game for the opposition, but it's getting dangerously close to being difficult to watch.
Let’s bet $1,000 we’re still ranked in the single digits.Probably number 12, much like the gaps in the football offense, same gaps, inconsistent play, poor ball handling, middle school turnovers by Chaz and Igor, might struggle with State, will struggle with Auburn, could be out of the top 20 this time next week.

People have to ask themselves, who is necessarily jumping us?We aren’t dropping out of the top 8. FWIW, we fell from #5 to #6 in CBS’ Top 25 and 1 today
Exactly. Only thing I’ll add is that unlike football, total number of losses has no bearing on movement in the rankings, it’s all based on what happened over the past week. The only teams in the top 12 not to lose this week were 1, 3, 10, & 12.People have to ask themselves, who is necessarily jumping us?
Michigan State has the only real shot with their win over Illinois and 11 straight wins.
Kentucky isn't hopping us with a loss this week at home and 4 losses on the year. Marquette lost at home and was already behind us. Houston didn't get a big enough win IMO , struggled with UCF, and has 3 losses.
Kansas lost to Iowa State and is 13-4.
Texas A& M still hasn't made up for that Oklahoma loss and is 14-4 with a loss to KY this week. Oregon and UCONN both lost this week as well.
Maybe we go to 7 if Michigan State jumps us, but that's all I can see. We could just stay at 6.
If we were going to crap the bed again, this wasn’t a bad week to do it.
Not usually, but if the metrics were somehow tied, it possibly could.Exactly. It's absolutely mindless to compare it to our football team, and football in general, as a few posters have doneExactly. They are apples and oranges in that they are two different sports. Comparing them directly can be a bit silly. However, there are some similarities. It's absolutely mindless to compare it to our football team, and football in general, as a few posters have done
It's much different when nuance is applied, as you have doneThey are apples and oranges in that they are two different sports. Comparing them directly can be a bit silly. However, there are some similarities.
(i.e team sport, played with a ball, both have offensive and defense, turnovers, a clock system where time and time outs need to be managed, etc)
As far as rankings, they are different too, but there can be similarities there, also
i.e strength of schedule/opponents record
In regard to playoffs, basketball's selection committee primarily uses NET rankings and it's detailed process, and CFPC has its own criteria and may directly use different metrics such as eye test, common opponent outcomes, and necessary head to head results.
Having said that, we have been talking AP Poll in this thread. AP polls for football and basketball are virtually the same.
So in regards to the AP polls, it's not silly at all to compare the two.
Yep. I was pretty confident after looking at all the teams behind us that none of them had the resume to jump us.Oh look, we held steady at #6 in the AP poll.

Same. Like I said in another post, not a bad week to poop our pants at Vandy all things considered. Still #4 in Net.With Florida, Kentucky and others losing, I am happy to see the Vols only dropped to 7th in Coaches poll and stayed at 6th in AP.
So was I. Those who thought we’d drop out of the top 10 were out of their minds.Yep. I was pretty confident after looking at all the teams behind us that none of them had the resume to jump us.
This next week may be a different story if we play anything like we did at Memorial Stadium.
