What does Tennessee have to do to make the NCAAT now?

Beat Auburn and win at least two SEC Tournament games.

If we lose to Auburn, we’d have to win the whole Tournament to get in.

My thoughts as well. Might overcome an aubby loss by a deep run in the SECT combined with some stumbling by the other bubble teams but our prospects are iffy right now. Having said that, watch us get in with a 12 seed.

If we somehow keep the magic alive and get to 20 wins we would be in no doubt. If we somehow get a win against Auburn and get a win in the tourney at 19 wins we are squarely on the bubble with a shot to get in. If we beat Auburn Saturday we would have victories of 4 top 25 teams when we played them, VCU, Washington, Kentucky, and Auburn.
Wasn't Florida top 25 too?

I really thought at the beginning of the season that 18 regular season wins would get us in.

I'll stick with that.

Just a note...but most bracket scenarios are leading toward a Tennessee/Kentucky SEC tournament matchup if the Vols can win their first round matchup...(barring some upset in the next week in other games).

If the current SEC standings hold, we have Auburn this Saturday. Then we’d have Arkansas in a first round matchup next Thursday and if we win that, we’re likely playing 2 seed LSU on Friday.

Moved up from 69 to 57 in the NET rankings.

The committee is a lot less predictable now since the NET was introduced. There are about 20 teams you could make an argument for this year, and there are about 8 spots available, and that's before you introduce conference tournament upsets that steal bids.

Having said that, if we don't beat Auburn and then make the SEC finals, I'd say it's still unlikely we make it. The win at Kentucky was certainly a needle-mover, but we still have a 2-9 record in Q1 games. Many of the teams we're competing against have 4 or 5 Q1 wins.

The picture will start to clear up in the next week.

20 is the magic number. anything less, i wont be surprised to be left out. It definitely helps our case to have a Coach like Barnes, and also getting these late season wins too.

beat Auburn and 3 more wins and we are 100% in....Auburn and 2 wins and bubble. auburn and 1 win...bubble but out. The only thing in our favor is a ton of teams on the bubble look a lot like us.....but a winning conference record and a couple of marquee wins at the end of the season.

As many in this thread have mentioned, the Vols go dancing with 20 wins. That means either a win against Auburn and bowing out in the SEC Tournament semifinals or losing against Auburn and making the title game. By no means does Tennessee absolutely have to win the SEC Tournament to receive a NCAA bid this year, though the loss against Auburn/finals appearance might have them slotted in the First Four.

Auburn really struggles on the road and we should be absolutely motivated to give Turner and Bowden senior day wins so I'm not worried about it as much as I am the SEC Tournament. I do think 19 wins gives us a 50/50 shot and 20 we are a lock.

We jumped the net up to 57 from 69 with this one win. A win over Auburn would probably get that to 50 so you would have a shot definitely with a couple SEC Tourney wins. Barnes has went to playing five guys most of the minutes and it is working in the last two games so hopefully see it again against Auburn.

If we lose to Auburn I could still see us getting in if we were to lose the conference championship. Would mean beating Arkansas, Auburn and LSU or Bama, UK, Florida and then lose in the final. 20 win team and conference tournament runner up.

And add that the think the committee is “lazy”
And will want all their seeds and field set when they go to bed on the Saturday night night before selection Sunday that makes that likely

I felt for the longest time that Sunday victories are meaningless in making or seeding in the NCAA unless it takes the tournament championship to get you in. I also have that same feeling about the Semifinals.

By and large the importance of the conference tourneys are way overblown that’s for sure
