what happened to Westbrook?

Why is the 2 her best position?

Lacks the quickness and handle of a point guard. She is an excellent passer as a lot of her turnovers are people not paying attention. She also is a very poor free throw shooter so she doesn't need her hands on the ball at the end of games need someone that can make free throws.

Plus next year with Jasmine coming in there want be enough minutes at that position for three point guards. Jasmine is much better suited for that position and Hayes must play that position although right now she is not playing that well either she has the quickness and handle and is a far better free throw shooter although not ideal.

You all do realize that while Westbrook's assist to TO ratio is far from ideal for a PG, it's still better than Hayes? Yesterday the only player on the team with an A/TO >1 was Nared. Hayes, Davis, and our posts are all <1 for the season.

sorry, but wrong, there are three who have a decent Asst-TO ratio
EW 121-93 = 1.30 to 1
MJ 58-48 = 1.21 to 1
JN 67-49 = 1.37 to 1
KD does to but so few... 9-4 = 2.25

He wasn't talking the whole season, just yesterday's game.

1.3 ATO for a PG is pretty bad. It should be closer to 2-1. Morgan William from Miss St is something like 4.5-1 and their back up is in the 3-1 range for a team that also likes to get down and run.

Evina's shoddy ATO and Annie's terrible ATO need to be fixed, especially with the team's most dependable ball handlers leaving next year.

If she is hurt then she should not play, And lets cut the crap please stop making up excuses for Westbrook. She was the #2 player in the country and to some writers #1, Yes she can pass and we all know that but right now the Team needs her to get on the offensive end make shots. Teams are giving her and Hayes the 3 point shot and they are failing big time to hit the 3.
and what is the number 1 player doing? Not even logging many minutes on the court. Please, regardless, they are 18/19 year children and have to grow. There is a world of difference in high school ball and college. Why are some people so critical of these kids? It's a long season and yes they are still freshmen!, no matter what some of you seem to feel. It's a much longer and grueling season than they have been used to. They are in unchartered territory. Don't judge them until you run the court and experience the wear and tear they are experiencing.

Exactly! I don't think some folks really understand the "freshman wall."

Here is how it goes. You're a top recruit now now surrounded by more mature and experienced players. Everything (practice and games) is faster, more intense, and more physical. And more concentration is needed. In high school, a star player can take a possession off, zone out for a bit because of the general level of competition and superior talent which allows her to quickly recover. At the college level, every lapse of concentration can be punished. And this high intensity all goes on much longer than the HS season.

These mental and physical demands can take a toll and some players manage the transition better than others. PG is a particularly demanding position. EW has some nagging injury (which compounds all of the above) and looks a bit mentally and physically fatigued. But, hopefully her injury improves and she will get a mental energy boost when the tournament season begins (if not before). I am not worried about her.

Westbrook and Hayes 93 turnovers they are tied with the most. And to me this falls on Holly i understand they are freshmen but most of the turnovers are just bad and careless. I think if Holly had a real coach face to face with each one on the floor the turnovers between the two would drop.

what was Reynolds senior year turnover ratio? would you rather have her back than the two we have?

EW just needs to take a deeeeeep breath and focus on the things that she can personally do and control. She reminds me a lot of Hornbuckle - but actually being a natural point. At this point in the season, you should know what you can bring every game, then let the rest fall into place. EW has wonderful court vision and can see plays develop even before they happen. She has a good sense about how the defense will react. On the defensive side I can't remember a guard having this much defense finesse since Hornbuckle. AH wasn't the fastest but her TIMING was her gift. I believe EW has that same gift.

EW wants to score but I think she is pushing too hard on this. She is forcing over 50% of those shots. Personally, I feel her contributions this season need to be more assist than points. EW game is getting to the basket and I would love to see more of this. The issue with this is you have to have SPACING. Right now with MR, our offense doesn't support this, this year.

I don't know if anybody has noticed, but Holly's recruiting (outside of Kasi) has been getting more and more flexible players. My hope is that after MR is gone we start to develop offense with spacing so these players that can shoot, dribble, and drive will have the opportunity to shoot, dribble and drive. Think about Hayes, Westbrook, Davis, Jackson - and the recruits coming in to support this.

I could be completely wrong and this isn't where CHW is going. She at least has the option and I know it would work.

I agree, and even Kasi is way more mobile than Russell.

With all do respect i disagree that Westbrook contributions this season need to be more assist than points. When it`s ncaa tournament time and we are playing a top 10 - 15 team, Where are the points gonna come from and will it be enough ? Davis has put up good numbers the last 2 games Narde has played better and Russell will give you points. You will need more then the 3 players i named to get past the 2nd or 3rd round of the tournament. The bottom line is Westbrook needs to start making shots.

I do believe she should score, but I think she needs to be a passer first (especially when playing vs. a zone defense). EW is one of our best attackers to the basket and scores regularly when she gets to the paint. She is a smart enough player I have all the confidence in the world with her to make the right decision when she is within 4 feet of the basket. I feel EW isn't adjusting very well to a slow down offense where we put MR on the block and look for MR. EW's passing and ball movement is good in the zone, but you can see it that she wants to score (and she should and I love that mentality). But when it's not working and your forcing it, take a break from it.

Teams are going to zone us in the tournament. What we do differently this year than last year is move the ball a little more. EW and Jackson have found Davis on a lot of backdoor cuts and screens (and Nared) to increase ball rotation. I feel that EW feels the pressure that she has to score - her bread and butter is getting to the basket to do this - and the zone takes that away and she is left taking quicker shots and low percentage/forced shots (the last 5-7 games). EW scoring like she did at USC is what we need from her because we are a very successful team if she puts up 10+ pts a game. USC also didn't play a lot of zone on us. She's going to be okay, she is still learning the game at a high level.
