It's absolutely pathetic to be searching for a reason to bitch about coaching into next seasonLove Small but if he comes back next year the coaches better not start him just because of seniority. This is assuming Wright goes to the NFL. If all three are back then Small needs 10% of carries at most.
It’s fantastic. Small has been very productive for us in his career and a great leader for Wright and Sampson. Wright and Sampson are going to absolutely go bonkers. I’m glad they are maturing the way they are. Those two are clearly better with the ball than small but finally seem to be better at pass pro. They will be a huge help for qb1 next year. With the portal, it's hard to believe any team could keep a trio of backs like we have. JH gets all the credit for that.
They aren't "Travis Squared" but they do make up the best RB group in CFB.
All BVS victims must enjoy! Woot Woot!
Wright is pretty much a given that this is his last year. He’ll go pro. It’s fantastic. Small has been very productive for us in his career and a great leader for Wright and Sampson. Genetics plays a huge role in endurance and training. Some guys seemingly have a bottomless tank while others hit empty much quicker. Great example is in the UFC. Look at Connor McGregor. He's lights out in the first round or two, but get him into the 3-5 rounds and he's gassed while others can just go endlessly or seemingly so.He seems to be good for a 100 every game then he taps out either in the middle of a drive or end of the game. Dylan Sampson is the best player on the team and it's not close!
Even though we go slow running the clockwise, if we sub in a back then the D can slowly sub as the ref stands over the ball. That would take away the advantage we are trying to get counting on a couple D guys taking a play off. He's your bulldozer. He does have to sub more.. I'm still scratching my head as to why we haven't used him in short down and distance more. Especially when we slow the game down inside the 20's. We go fast all the way down to that point then go slow.
I'd still rather have him in there on short yardage than the other two.. We slow way down inside the 20's anyway for some reason.. I know the reason, we all know the reason obviously. He'd be hard to stop on 4th and nothing..Even though we go slow running the clockwise, if we sub in a back then the D can slowly sub as the ref stands over the ball. That would take away the advantage we are trying to get counting on a couple D guys taking a play off.
On the tapping out, I'm sure they tell the backs to put their hand up to let them know they are spent, so they would probably not go to him on the next play. In other words telling the coach you might not want to give it to me next down I'll block but I'm spent. JMO I could be wrong, he may be saying, I'm wanting to come out but that seems strange for a RB fighting for carries knowing the signature of this O we don't sub when we are on a roll.
What I see is Wright breaks tackles with his legs.He is the one taping out, not me
Or maybe that motion is signalling something other than "I need to rest." So many times I've seen him tap his hat and then get called to run the ball the next three plays.Yeah, good observation. I’ve noticed that tonight also. At least twice this after a run he seem to be motioning to the sidelines he needed to rotate out. We didn’t sub him out any of the times I noticed him motioning. I thought it was weird as we all know we don’t until we’re like 10 plays into a drive. Maybe it was a result of him being banged up?
Leonard Smalls? What I see is Wright breaks tackles with his legs.
Sampson breaks tackles with his hips and shoulders. His Spin move is getting really good. Wright and Smalls don't have that tool.
Wright's more punishing running style takes a LOT more energy.
I think Sampson's elusiveness makes him far more effective the last quarter of the game. His spin and acceleration (straight line and lateral) make him a tough grab for tired defenders. He really runs through defenders bodies and shifts his weight faster than LBs who have played the entire game can sometimes react, even in thier grasps.
I also believe Smalls is an excellent back. His low center of gravity makes him tough to get down. I have seen him break some impressive runs the last 3 seasons.
He is tough for the defense to spot until he hits the LOS and runs strong.
His running style helps wear down the front 6-7 of the defense, and he gets some Big Plays along the way. He is also a good receiver, like Sampson, and has really become very effective in pass protection.
They might be if they had a Stephens, Henry and Jamal, O-line in front of them. These three aren’t Stephens and Henry and Jamal or anything, but damn they are good. What a fantastic weapon to have three sets of legs with the skills of this group. And as others- including JH- have said, the young guys coming up are real good too.
Maybe. But I would say he is going pro and doesn't want to risk injury on 9 straight carries in burst. I don't expect he is returning next year. Nothing wrong with that, he plays hard and has a big role in where this team is and where it's going. If he needs a breath, rotate the next guy.Wright is very good. He just can't carry the ball over 3 times without wanting to come out
