What if Bob Huggins were here?

Yeah, and Phillip Fulmer was going to turn things around and Nick Saban wasn't going to make a difference at Alabama.

And Billy Gillispie would dominate at UK
And Greg Oden would be the new NBA silhouette
And....

We can play that game if you'd like, but it doesn't change my opinion that Huggins would not have had any more success to this point than Pearl. And honestly, I think Pearl has had a larger financial impact on the program than Huggins could ever have dreamed of.

It's okay to like Pearl. The statement above, however, is just dumb.

So, what would be Huggins record at UT be at this point? To think Huggins would have won substantially more games than Pearl is just dumb.

I'm not a Pearl drum beater, but the guy has done some nice things to this point and to think a middle of the road coach like Huggins would do any better is just being a Hataphile.

I'm not knocking on Pearl, but Huggins is not middle of the road.

The last time Huggins any mentionable tourney success most of the people on this board weren't even born.

So, in using the Bruce Pearl rule of "a sweet sixteen is awesome dood," I have determined that most of the people on this board are, in fact, 2 years old.

He made it as far as Bruce did with Bruce's "super-regular season team" with half as much talent on the court. And he actually teaches defense and fundamentals. Huggins would have already made it past the sweet 16 if he had been here.

Are you now arguing that Huggins isn't a better coach than Pearl either?

No. Huggins has a great career resume - that's looking like his best days are behind him as the seasons pile up. But to think he would have been more successful at UT than Pearl has been is wishful thinking at best.

I have no idea what that even means. I guess you just felt like you had to post in the thread since hat made an appearance, so continue on.

Pure speculation, but you're entitled your opinion.

Do you think UT would have had a chance at getting Beasley here? (I'm actually not sure) If so, yeah, UT would have definitely passed the Sweet 16.

Yeah - it's speculation - but saying that Bob Huggins is a better coach that Bruce Pearl isn't speculation.

Career-wise, sure - Huggins has a couple final 8's and a final 4 twenty years ago. But comparing them currently there's not much separation in terms of success on the court.

Does Pearl's defense piss me off - sure. Does that take away the games he's won leading the league in scoring, no.

The Phoenix Suns led the NBA in scoring and was the best at winning regular season games. How did that turn out for Mike D'Antoni?
