What irritates you the most at restaurants?

I was head waiter for 3 years.

You're just a difficult customer. Chain restaurants will always comp you something if you complain. Private restaurants may or may not. They may decide that they don't need your business.

Putting up with "BS” does not include acting like a spoiled child to get whatever you want. It means you lack class.

Wrong again...I do eat at chains a lot..My expectation are just different than yours. You have soft sport for your peers.. I get it...No issue.

Leaving only change or a $1 at the bar for a cocktail is not going to get you a very good cocktail the next time.

Exactly, chains will almost always comp something if you complain. Their profit margin is insane because their food quality is so poor.

Private restaurants may or may not. If you make a habit of going to the same one and complaining every time, they may decide they don't need your business after a few times.

Never had an issue.. Never been asked to leave... Never not served... All good

Drove me crazy, but it was usually the opposite since I was in Wyoming. 'Is it cold outside'? You just walked in the door, in order to walk inside the place you had to come in from the outside. Or, I would warn them the temperature will drop dramatically in half an hour or thunderstorms are on the way and I will not have a spot inside. 30 minutes later, we want to move inside, it is cold out there, or it is raining.

I know too well.

With the rain though, I had to stay on top of the radar during rainy season, thunderstorms pop up out of nowhere and you have to watch for it. I'd see one about 15 minutes out and pull everyone inside and close the outside.

"Why cant we sit outside, It's not raining".... I don't see any clouds"....blah blah blah.

It was so gratifying 15 minutes later.

All this arguing, and nobody is gonna address the cereal issue? You all suck!

I have a question for Behr, Charlie, Dink, Crusse, or anyone in the current restaurant scene. When your % of tips is calculated in relation to your sales does it include tax?

I'm just curious. I've heard people say they only tip on the base amount and others say to tip on the whole bill. I always tip off the total because it's just easier, IMO and I hope the server makes a few extra dollars if it's not based on the tax.

Hey Joe -

Just for the record, there's a bar here in Knoxville called Token. They have cereal on the menu. Kid you not, the choices are Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Frosted Flakes, Reese's Puffs, and Trix.

Unfortunately, no Cap'n Crunch. There should be some Opps All Berries on there.

Obviously its up to you. I've rarley seen or known anyone to tip on the pre tax amount.

But, my system was set up on Auto gratuity to add 18% to the pre tax amount.

Servers tip out anywhere from 2-3.5 % of their NET sales for tip pools for bartenders, bussers and in some places expeditors and or hostesses. So tipping them on the GROSS total helps them...a little.

Servers and bartenders are required to pay taxes on their NET sales.

My employees were allowed to use auto grat (18%) only on parties of 8 or more. I was blessed with servers and bartenders that seldom used it and usually came out better off.

That what you were looking for?
