I'm just curious...

What is Butch and Co telling these recruits to get them to commit above and beyond these other offers they are getting?

I mean, I understand the process, but they are absolutely blowing it up!

...aren't you?

No idea. But then again, we do have better facilities, a bigger fanbase, more money, a higher paid staff, and a better tradition than Ole Miss, who signed a top 5 class last year.

Maybe he's selling them a chance to play at one of the best football schools in the country that offers a great education, the best facilities anywhere, a great fan base and a chance to be part of a great team in the future.

I worked a hs basketball camp at UT and ate meals at the athletic training table...the bill of fare at that place alone would get me to sign with the Vols. You know why does Peterson get players at Boise or Patterson at TCU? They hadn't been good since the 40's. Most of the time it comes down to the coach...and if I had a son Butch could get him to sign on a roll of toilet paper if it meant playing for him.

Oh yeah...have friends in Mississippi who were recruited by CJM when he was an assistant at State in the 50's...those guys said the same thing about him that I said about Butch...

Sometimes it's hard to answer this without seeming like a "wool over the eyes" type fan but, come on, it's Tennessee.

The NFL is littered with former UT players. Pick a position. UT has a high profile player there currently or in the past. Except really CB.

PMS151 is God's color.

Neyland is huge and newly renovated. If you've ever been on field of another stadium, there is nothing like it. Neyland just goes up higher and higher. Neyland is also very loud due to it's construction and 100,000+ fans. Combine this with it being one of only 2 stadium settings so close to water and the Smokies and it's a hell of a place to show out.

Facilities are top-notch. This is the only thing we can thank Dooley for. There is no arguing that. It doesn't matter if we've gone 7-6, 6-7, 5-7, 5-7 and 5-7 over the last 5 years. Our facilities are 2nd to none. Oregon has nice ones but, IMO, they're tacky looking.

Smokey greys. The kids obviously love them. Uniforms matter to these kids and that one is a hit.

The VFL support system. The feeling of family.

Chance to play in the SEC and help rebuild one of the all time great programs.

These are just the tangible things they're selling. Factor in playing time and specific examples of how they'll be used and that's that.

Dooley endlessly whined and complained about recruiting difficulties. Jones is proving that he was a liar. Jones is also proving you can recruit to Tennessee without being a total jackass like Kiffin was.

Isn't it you, TGVol, and Crylo...no wait Guyblo...no that ain't it....WYLO...there it is that claim this staff is terrible and needs to be fired already? Recruiting doesn't matter....blah, blah, blah. The mere fact they lost Bray, Rivera, CP, and JH to the NFL to be replaced by freshmen and no experience sophomores didn't matter because Butch sucks still regardless.

Was just looking at the numbers and in the one year that butch has been here he has over 50 recruits. Thats a turnover of over half the players in one year. Is this normal or something remarkable?

TBCH I am shocked most people who frequent this board didn't have the slightest understanding of what you were getting with Butch...boggles the mind really...but as an ex coach I knew EXACTLY what you were getting...and why you people got suckered in by all the Gruden talk...that was hilarious. If UT football was a steamboat Gruden would have the thing running backward and grounded by now...now that is just flat out fact.

He is selling them on the tradition of UT football and the recruits sense CBJ's love for the program. They also see the character of the coach and the confidence he instills in the players.

Also, and this is something that I think many undervalue when it comes to recruiting, is just what kind of impression CBJ and his staff is leaving with recruit's parents/guardians. Yes I know most parents say "oh I left it completely up to my son to decide" but you can't tell me that who they find favor with doesn't at least have SOME effect on a recruit's decision.

I always felt you could sell alot when it came to Tennessee for the football program. but I guess we fell into the bs that other coaches were stating. God is it refreshing to a person not only say what he going to do, but go out and do it. God Bless Coach Butch Jones. I know it a lot sappy, but this recruiting class cause for celebration.

Can't tell me mama goin' let her baby go off to play for some jerk who doesn't give a hoot about her baby and whether he will get an education. Players say CBJ sincerely cares about them as people and students outside the athletics dept. As a parent I can tell you that if you aren't sincere the mother will sense it. It's woman's intuition. Gotta walk the walk
After Jason Croom finishes playing it might be interesting to ask MZTERRY how she liked the way Jason was treated. Hopefully he has a great experience
