What is Cuonzo building?

I seem to remember him telling Missouri state he was coming to Tennessee to interview...

Also, I see no way Illinois pays that much of a buy out for an unproven coach.

I would like to see that then. We were completely shocked because no one outside of Zo knew. It happened all so fast. This is from a news release 3 days before signing in Knoxville:

"As for his name being mentioned with other coaching jobs being opened in the Midwest, Martin continues to say that neither himself nor his agent have been contacted by the University of Missouri or any other school for that matter."

Again, don't blame him one bit. We'll always be a stepping stone job but things could've been handled better.

Where ever he is, we'll still cheer for him. I'd still choose Tennessee all things considering

Maybe I was wrong but I seem to remember hearing that. Cause iirc many knew he was on our list and here interviewing before the hire was announced.

I don't see Illinois being a job he'd leave for. I still think at best it's a lateral move, and even that's a stretch IMO. Also, the fact of the big buyout, I don't see Illinois paying it for someone who isn't a big time coach. Also, I think if he were to leave itd hurt that character he preaches. Stokes would probably not react very happily and other 5* may take similar notice. Leaving Missouri state for a big program like Tennessee is easily explainable and many could foresee it coming. Him jumping after 1 year at a lateral move would hurt that credibility IMO.

JMO, But Gene Keady coached for 40 years and during his entire career he said Cuonzo was THE best leader he ever coached..EVER..If Keady has that much faith in CCM, then I would imagine he is building a program that will eventually be a national contender every year..With character and integrity...And Illinois is not where he wants to do it..IMO Purdue would be the only place he would leave UT for..

Illinois and Purdue would be about the only 2 places I'd be worried about....

And unfortunately Illinois job is now open.
