What is really going on with Trump's taxes?

The MAGA faithful are always sensitive but today they are uber-sensitive due to Trump being outed as a fraud and a fake. I wish I could spend more time here today, I'm getting a huge kick out out of the Trump supporters trying to rationalize the fact that he lost more money than almost any other American over a 10 year span.
Trust me on this: we really hate that you can't spend more time here today. You make some of the other liberal idiots and haters look almost normal.

True (and he also took a bath with Trump Taj Mahal). He and his father saw the potential in Manhattan in the mid-70's when the city was in the toilet and other developers didn't. I'm not saying he hasn't made some great investments. I just think he has wildly exaggerated what he has.
I suspect you are right. Kinda has to exaggerate for his licensing business to prosper.

I did the same as Trump on my real estate investing. Everybody was soured on real estate and i jumped as much as i could. It almost bankrupted me, too.

The old saying is "scared money stays poor." When others are fearful, it's time to strike.

I think to be fair to DJT, his wealth is due to a combination of inheritance, taking advantage of tax code and BK code as well as property appreciation, and making solid real estate purchases in Manhattan and SF....

He isnt what he makes himself out to be but he's not an idiot either..

His tweets fly in the face of that assertion.

This is my understanding of where he made his money for the last 20 years or so. Licensing his name to products from steaks to golf courses has been very lucrative. And very smart. The international appeal to license his name will increase after politics.

Really?

We are in a thread about Trump's taxes and we are discussing respectfully from opposing viewpoints the item that may be causing the losses on Trump's tax returns.

No we are in a thread about a witch hunt and you guys are grasping at straws.

As much as I dislike DJT, he isnt admitting to tax fraud there. There could have been legal or aggressive planning (sustained upon audit) that caused those losses.

DJT is just trying to brag-splain away the fact his tax income was low for a decade.

Yeah, he does a lot of this. I haven't decided if his need to respond to everything is a part of a master plan strategy toward protecting his brand image or if it's just his ego getting in the way of good judgment. As much as Trump likes to call them the "failing New York Times", he NEVER lets a slight from them go without a rebuttal on Twitter. It seems like he cares a great deal about what they write about him and he is insecure about questions over his income/wealth.

Nope, you are just blind to the fact that the POTUS isnt what he claims to be. Keep drinking that Fox News kool aid though.
Do you all think that we Trump voters were unaware that he was a self promoting, loudmouth, blowhard New Yorker before the election? We aren't stupid. He hasn't changed one bit since I first heard of him, many, many years ago.

It might be a mix of both, but I think it is mostly an ego thing for him. He built his life/wealth in Manhattan; he absolutely cares what the NYT writes about him, otherwise he wouldn't bring them up at every opportune moment. The vast majority of NYC despises him, so the NYT deservedly throwing him under the bus is like the voice of the city telling him to piss off. It all goes back to the d-list celebrity thing. New Yorkers and the "elite" have loathed him for years, and I think it bothers him.

... and is there a better way to pi$$ off the IRS than to claim that you used to under-report income for sport? I'm sure there is a way to spin that... but it doesn't look very smart for a man who faces an audit every year. He is very much acting like a man who thinks he is above accountability at this point in his life. Maybe he is?

All part of the brand/image. I have no doubt he is as crooked as he claimed Hillary was, but at this point nothing will come of it. So maybe he is above any kind of reproach.

After going through this thread, there are plenty of posters who can only process the HuffPost, MSNBC, or Fox News talking points. They are either unwilling or not capable of forming an independent thought on their own.

I'll admit that I voted for Hillary. It wasn't because I was a huge proponent of her agenda. It was because I viewed her as the better of 2 awful options.

I dont watch MSNBC. :) Even I have to draw the line somewhere...

I think if you put down your Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity "How to Insult the non Kool Aid drinker" book, you'd realize that I am independent thinker and not a libtard. I would have voted any other R over Hillary in 2016 and I'll vote Trump over most the democratic field in 2020.
