I clicked republican, because that's how I vote, but I consider myself a conservative libertarian for the reason you mention. Their isn't a strong party that really wants to significantly trim the size of the federal government. The republicans like to deregulate, but they need to do more.....much, much, more....but with as many swamp creatures as they have, the ones that really want to do it in the party will never have the numbers. Sad.

While all minarchists are libertarians, not all libertarians are minarchists. Libertarianism is an ice cream shop with many different flavors, so to speak.

I'm probably butchering the definition a bit, but...Minarchism sees the practical utility/necessity in a minimal State, where the government's role is limited to protecting individual rights and providing essential services such as national defense, law enforcement, and a legal system. Generally, it's based on a realization that in the real world, bad actors do exist and will cause injury or otherwise trample the property rights of others if left unchecked by law enforcement (on a smaller level) and military (on an international level). Another term for it is a "night watchman state".
