There will always be debates about how much power the federal government will have, and there will always be someone will be whining about secession whenever it feels like they're losing that debate.Because Lincoln swore to expand the power and scope of the federal government. See the correlation? We almost had a civil war in 1829/1830 over the Tariff of 1828 which was a major expansion of federal government power that ended up being rescinded.
Absolutely I don't think that would solve all of our problems, we as a country have always had problems and disagreements they just magnify exponentially when people feel like the federal government is forcing things down their throats. It's the one size fits all approach of the fed gov that pisses people off.Do you think that solves all of our issues? Do you think the people of Nashville and Memphis will be united with the people of Dickson and Scotts Hill if the state government has more power?

So, say you lived in California--you think you would be happier if the federal government forced less down your throat and that was just left up to the state government?Absolutely I don't think that would solve all of our problems, we as a country have always had problems and disagreements they just magnify exponentially when people feel like the federal government is forcing things down their throats. As for your Nashville/Memphis question, no there will still be disagreements but on a much smaller scale. Citizens have much more access and input into their local and state governments than they do the federal government so disagreements should be easier to resolve.
I mean, you're just proving the point by coming up with some (misleading) statistic out of thin air to assign an "us" and "them". I mean, we're talking about unity here, not who pays what taxes. I guess you just really want to pay more taxes? One tribe tends to make and the other tends to take. Until both tribes make and then have to decide how the fruits of labor are used, there will be no unity. Right now the takers are approx. 51% and makers are approx. 49%. That divide is growning.
51% of Americans Pay No Federal Income Taxes
Yes! If the federal government had little to no impact on the lives of the average citizen would we care enough to argue and fight over what they do?

bwaaaaaa haaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaSo size of government is the sole issue? No I don’t think so. I believe that most people who committed an act of Terrorism on the Congress truly believe they acted as Patriots. But they believe that because they believed Trump rather than believing all of Trump’s federal election officials who proclaimed the election was honest
Would they not have had the same belief if the government was half the size
Would black’s protesting the murder if their own by rogue cops felt differently if the Federal government was half the size?
I agree the Federal government is too intrusive and too big. I added the other components because I believe each is a factor. I believe there are many more factors too
Which is exactly what the left wants. Dependence. on. government. How are they good? Define that? The longer they have been in place, the more people have needed them. It's an addiction making people dependent on the government.
Hard to say you are upholding the liberty of those you have bound to be dependent on the government.
Why do those blacks care more about 1 POS thug being killed by a white cop than they do 21 of their own (so far this year... in Chicago ALONE) being killed by other blacks??? Over 770 last year.So size of government is the sole issue? No I don’t think so. I believe that most people who committed an act of Terrorism on the Congress truly believe they acted as Patriots. Most issues aren't just either/or. There are always more than 2 choices for our beliefs.I mean, you're just proving the point by coming up with some (misleading) statistic out of thin air to assign an "us" and "them". The point is that there's always going to be people who think that the current leader of any government (federal, state, or local) are "imbeciles". You're not solving a problem of division by kicking the problem down from the federal to the state level. I'm not arguing that there are not advantages of having more localized governmental decisions (with federal protections of rights), but to act like decreasing the size of the federal government is some magic cure-all for division is misguided. That's a loaded question being that the governor is a complete imbecile.
We need to dial back the rhetoric too.
Calling last Wednesday an “Internal 911” isn’t helping matters.
All politicians suck - some just happen to suck a lot more than others.
I completely agree that things are a lot more nuanced than "Option 1" and "Option 2". I'm saying that humans' brains tend to undercomplicate things and assign an "us" and a "them", no matter how silly that is. I'm not arguing that things are black and white, I'm arguing that too many people treat things as black and white. It's unfortunate, but it's instinct. Most issues aren't just either/or. There are always more than 2 choices for our beliefs.
It might not be a magic cure all, but it certainly will ease a lot of problems. Like hog said, forcing NY solutions on California is idiotic. And that is just the two big leftist states. Why should Arkansas care what works in NY or California when it might not work for them? But I guess socialism needs errybody to be forced into compliance, amiright? The point is that there's always going to be people who think that the current leader of any government (federal, state, or local) are "imbeciles".
