What needs to happen to host playoff?

I like this (seeds not ranks) if Oregon, Georgia, and Clemson win:
1) Oregon
2) Georgia
3) Boise State
4) Clemson
5) Notre Dame
6) Texas
7a) Ohio State
7b) Tennessee
9) Penn State
10a) South Carolina
10b) Indiana
12) B12 champ

With the committee making a couple close decisions just to keep conference foes from playing each other in first 2 rounds.

The Ohio St issue is going to probably decide whether we host or not. As in how far they drop.

For comparison sake, when Alabama lost to UR Vanderbilt they dropped six in the AP. When Miami lost to UR Georgia Tech, they dropped seven in the CFP. When Ole Miss lost to UR Florida, they dropped six in the CFP. When we lost to UR Arkansas we dropped four but actually lost seven over two week period in the AP in spite of beating Fla the next week.

So, Ohio State losing to an UR Michigan should have them dropping around 6 spots. That should put them behind us. I think we move up to #6 in the rankings and OSU to either 7 or 8. Would they drop them below SMU??

Objectively we lost by two tds to Georgia at Georgia and lost to Arkansas on the road. Ohio state barely lost to Oregon then lost to Michigan at home and lost later in the year. Those resumes are pretty damn close imo. Not sure how you separate the two fairly.

Some of the ESPN projections are downright asinine. Just blatantly stupid.

I can understand if we were to stay at the 9 seed, but some of those projections had Indiana and even South Carolina jumping us. Those deserve no respect whatsoever.

Interestingly, Chris Low has us at 8 hosting Penn State (presumably with a BIGCCG loss), and South Carolina at 11 over Miami.

Seven of those writers guessed us at an 8 seed hosting either Ohio State, Indiana, or Penn State.

Yep. Uneasy feeling about it. IMO they lost at home in last game of the year. That should eliminate them from contention for hosting. If we lost our second game to Vandy (assuming it was a second loss) this weekend we would have been knocked completely out. Just like what’s going to happen to Miami.

They can make an argument either way. I bet it comes down to politics and I bet they want to set up the big ten as best they can. I figure we head to Columbus. Of course conference titles if someone gets stomped could conceivably change things. Mainly SEC and big ten conference games, rest won’t matter to us.

We could already be hosting. Keep in mind that Ohio Stafe won't make B1G Championship now, Penn State or Indiana will.

A bad scenario might be Oregon losing in B1G Championship and taking our spot.

Notre Dame, Georgia, Penn State, and Tennessee look like the 4 hosting sites with Texas (if they win out), Oregon (if they win out), ACC Champion, and Big12 Champion getting the bye.
We won’t be hosting. More teams not less are going to land above us. Seems strange after a few upsets. We are going to get screwed. Just wait.

3 options left:
1) committee ranks us over Ohio state
2) penn state drops below us (and Ohio state)
3) Texas knocks Georgia below us

So maybe 70% chance we host at this point ?

Each of the following could move us up:
1) Jump a big ten team - About 49%
Penn state losing to Maryland -7%
Oregon losing to Washington AND Ohio State -8%

Ohio State losing to Michigan AND committee jumping Tennessee over Ohio State - 0.00%
Ohio state losing to Michigan AND Penn State losing to Oregon - now 49%

2) Notre Dame loss to USC - 29%

3) Jump SEC team - 46%
Georgia loses to Texas - 46%

4) Jump second Big Ten team - 0.6%
Oregon loses 2, Penn State loses

Bleacher Report showing the same prediction as USA Today

No. 1 Oregon (Big Ten Champion)
No. 2 Texas (SEC Champion)
No. 3 SMU (ACC Champion)
No. 4 Boise State (Best Group of 5 Champion)
No. 12 Arizona State vs. No. 5 Penn State
No. 11 Miami vs. No. 6 Notre Dame
No. 10 Indiana vs. No. 7 Georgia
No. 9 Ohio State vs. No. 8 Tennessee
These all would be intriguing match ups. I’d dig those

If Ohio State is 8 and we are 9 we have to play them in the horseshoe if it's the other way around they have to pay us in Neyland. Gee I wonder which way it will go.
Exactly this.

Especially since committee chair is Michigan AD and he already said that IU win at home vs Michigan was a good win. So they will likely view OSU loss scoring only 10pts at home to 21pt underdog Michigan as a “good loss” and keep them ahead of UT. We will be playing at the shoe.

Clemson to lose in the championship game to SMU is big because then only 1 ACC team. Georgia losing to Texas in the championship game. Penn State getting crushed by Oregon in the championship game

Read that Clemson wouldn't get a bye if they beat SMU. They are out if they lose.

How many of the Ohio State players who threw punches or kicked players/media yesterday will serve their required first half suspension in their playoff game?

Over/under is 0.5

I'll take the Under

Yesterday, all the talk was about how we would host with a couple of upsets. We GOT the upsets and now it seems all the talk has changed to where we need something else to happen. This is just the setup to screw over Tennessee. All the big 10 homers will do anything not to have us in Neyland. They know that anybody we play in Neyland will get beat. I don't care who it is

They need to review the tape and hand out suspensions. IF they do that then NOBODY will pull those stunts again. The rules are there. ENFORCE them.

yep...with their schedule and this system, Notre Dame will be perennial hosts of the playoffs.

So stupid.
Yes I think the conferences need to black ball them and that includes the ACC that does that dumb play 5 games against ACC schools, SEC& B1G, & Big12 schools should all refuse to play them. They shouldn't get to cherry pick their schedule and then make playoff routinely. If they were stuck playing service academies, and lower conference teams their schedule would be absolute garbage and they might start being ranked low enough they would take it seriously of joining a conference.

With the current format yes they wont ever get a bye but with their schedules of playing 2 maybe 3 decent teams a year and getting to choose when to play them on their schedule they will almost always make the playoff. They never get a conference office making them play a stretch of like 3 straight ranked opponents so they get breaks to heal up players.

Next week root for the favorites. That will bring Penn State down, Ohio State is down, Georgia will drop and we could go as high as the 6th team and host a Boise State, Iowa State/Arizona State type team.
