What needs to happen to host playoff?

I guess Sakerlina beating Clemson doesn't impact anything... because it's still Clemson in the ACCCG except now against SMU instead of Miami..

Is that right?
And then Clemson would get an automatic bid to the CFP regardless if they win the ACCCG (and finish 10-3) or lose (and finish 9-4)?

If that's right, I'm trying to wrap my mind around the legitimacy of a (potential) 9-4 team being in the CFP.

That makes zero sense to me. Why can we reward winners of the championship games and not change the ranks of the losers

If the shoe was on the other foot and we took a 3rd L in Atlanta while a 2 loss UGA that we beat was sitting one seed behind us, we would be saying same thing.

Committee isn't going to penalize a meaningless game. Of course I think you people are smoking drugs for thinking Georgia has any chance to not win the SEC title in what is a home game next week

Tennessee will have two teams ranked lower than them, be above them on the actual seed line.

You're assuming that Ohio State does not drop below us... I don't agree that they will only drop 2-3 spots losing to a 20 point underdog at home. Especially when the CFP chair is Michigan AD lmao... He'll abstain some, but he will be lobbying under the table to drop the Suckeyes low!

Georgia would win the SEC I think.

but let’s say they do…how would we rank Georgia above Texas and move them down the rankings if they lose but not move Georgia down the ranks if they lose?

They need to just do away with the conference championships. Teams don’t play the same schedules anyways so it’s a fraud

Correct. I’d be completely shocked if the committee dropped OSU below Tennessee. They’ll use the Buckeyes top ten wins against IU and PSU as reason why.

I'm trying to understand why most teams would want to play in their conference championship games. Unless you had a chance to play your way into the playoffs, it's just an additional game to absorb costly injuries or knock yourself out of the playoffs. I would rather rest my team for a meaningful playoff game.
Winner gets a bye

I think Georgia winning the SEC over Texas and Oregon winning the Big Ten over Penn State means you have to find a way to properly seed Texas with 2 losses, Penn State with 2 losses against a 1 loss Notre Dame, 2 loss Ohio State, and 2 loss Tennessee.....

What I think is most likely is Tennessee and Ohio State will be the 8/9 matchup. I believe that we will get a host seed.

Now the easy path for us is Texas A&M win tonight. That would ensure Texas drops below us. That would also cause Chaos for the committee to justify not drop Texas and Ohio State below us even though they lost to 3 and 5 loss teams today while we won a quality a win since the committee called Vandy a good win for Texas.

Honestly, just go ahead and expand the damn thing to 16 teams. This way, we don’t have to worry about which teams get byes or debate over one team jumping another simply because they’re a conference champion.

I agree... just take the top 2 teams in the conf.

...although we all know they're not going to give up the money of a conf championship game.

still, i agree with you.

USA Today has us up one and hosting OSU.......I think this makes the most sense assuming the conference games go as expected. Even though UGA struggled on Friday, they own H2H.

bracket projections: Live updates

Here's a live projection of the 12-team CFP as Week 14 games become finalized:

Last updated Saturday, Nov. 30 at 11:33 p.m. ET. Records reflected on Week 14 results.

  1. Oregon (12-0)
  2. Texas (11-1)
  3. SMU (11-1)
  4. Boise State (11-1)
  5. Penn State (11-1)
  6. Notre Dame (11-1)
  7. Georgia (10-2)
  8. Tennessee (10-2)
  9. Ohio State (10-2)
  10. Indiana (11-1)
  11. Miami (10-2)
  12. Arizona State (10-2)
TENNESSEE SECURES CFP SPOT: Tennessee looked to be on upset alert early against Vanderbilt, but the Vols staved off a 14-0 deficit and routed the Commodores 36-23 in Nashville. The win, coupled with Ohio State's loss, gives UT a chance to host a playoff game at Neyland Stadium.

Huh? Clemson has to win the ACCCG to get in. That’s their only shot.

And SMU had already locked up a berth in the ACCCG last week. Clemson got in today only because Miami lost.
