What oil(and filter) do you use?

No matter the filter or the oil they get changed & disposed of at the same time.

Not true. High quality synthetics and filters can be run 3-4x as long as your ****ty dinosaur oil. They can also do a better job of protecting your engine.

First hit on youtube for oil filter failure.

Yeah, I actually have a friend whose turbo was destroyed due to a crappy oil filter.

My car uses this style, so I don't think any cardboard is an issue as it is all contained in a plastic housing.

I doubt that guy change his oil when he should of. He also told on himself. "I figured I could leave it in there along time.

How many Ferrari owners don't change their oil at regular intervals? I would wager not many.

If you google oil filter failure, it's 80% references to Fram.

Wait, what? Your use of negatives is confusing me. Are you saying that Ferrari owners do or do not change their oil at regular intervals?

I would say they change it too late based on time, not mileage. Seeing as one of those cars may only do 5000 miles a year.

If I paid upwards of six figures for a car, it wouldn't leave the garage without an oil change.

Granted, I didn't look to see what ferrari he was talking about. Maybe it was an older model.

Now, if my income was eight figures, maybe I wouldn't be quite so diligent, I dunno. I suppose there are some careless millionaires with ferraris. The point is, it seems to be a common problem, independent of user error.

Like a lot of things there are "higher end" models of filters. I'd guess that if one were diligent in their changes a "normal" Fram would probably (in fact I'm sure does for a crapload of people) but look into Fram's Xtended Guard before just trashing all things Fram. A quick Google check and you'll see that it's actually pretty highly regarded.

Valvoline Maxlife (synthetic blend) and K&N filter every 3500 miles or so. The filters are pricey, but it's worth it just for the weld nut.

I found em online for about $10/piece shipped(I bought 5 and it was $51 w/ shipping)

I use Mobil 1 full synthetic with the Mobil 1 extended filter. I usually don't let it go past 5k and often change it before then and haven't had any trouble at all. These companies claiming you can go anywhere from 7 to 15 thousand miles on the same oil I think are crazy. Maybe you can but I'm not about to try that shlt with my car.

I change at 5-6k with G-Oil synthetic.

I feel that the claims of 7-15k is pretty true. Gotta remember that back when everyone was using conventional oil 3k wasn't really true, and you could you go further. BMW puts their changes at 15k, so I think it says a lot that OEMs are calling for longer intervals.

I want to know how often folks are checking their oil levels. I check at every other fill up. Turbos tend to burn a decent amount of oil, so I like to keep on top of it.

It's not common yet happens all the time???? Thanks for your input.

Common is quantified based on percentages. "Happens all the time" would imply there are many cases of it. Considering there are millions and millions of cars with oil filters in the world, it's entirely possible for something to happen frequently, and yet still be relatively uncommon.

I know how much it pains you to be shown to be ignorant, but just get over it.

I drive a 95 model Accord that had not been taken care of very well before I got ahold of it so I check it once every two weeks. It's leaking oil and using oil all at the same time so I want to make sure to make it last as long as possible.

It took you 3 days to come up with this? Lol

Yes. I was online on VolNation all weekend trying to draft a response to your idiocy. Very compelling argument you've come up with, btw.
