What other message boards are saying (Arkansas Pre-Game Edition)

Okay? I’m not saying we’re going to lose. But they went on the road to OK State and they took them to OT and should have beaten them. They aren’t nearly as bad as their fans are saying. I expect a 14-17 point win, but I’m not sure a beat down is going to happen. Playing on the road at night is hard.
Kansas State blowing out Oklahoma State last weekend didn’t really help though. They don’t appear to be as good as initially expected.

Same Okie State that was just blown out?

Yeah we could lose, yeah it could be a close, and yeah we could easily blow them out. We are multiple tiers better than them in almost every aspect.

I put the odds at

Double digit win - 70%
Single score/close game till the end(at least mid 4th) - 25%
Lose - 5%

You can’t seem as uptight as you do while rocking the Combsy “I just balked and then let them score on a wild pitch, but it’s all good” picture as your avi and not expect me to gently correct my brother in Christ as St. Paul and General Neyland would have wanted. 😏

You’re need to adjust your knobs if you can’t spot a little over-the-top humor at the Vols expense. Rational, a frat boy picked from the stands, a 600 yard game, and Napier keeping his job all in the same sentence should have tipped you off. Surely you didn’t take this seriously.

This type of humor suggests the opposite of uptight. We all need to be able to poke a little fun at ourselves. It’s cathartic.

Hyperbole doesn’t imply sarcasm, my friend. Do you mean to say you’re not worried about the Florida game?

I just think it’s silly when people say stuff like “my heart wants to believe, but my head knows we’ll lose” to a team the ESPN FPI gives us a 90% chance of beating. It’s literally the opposite; your heart is telling you we’ll lose.

Why would that sort of talk garner respect?
Because practically every college football fanbase suffers from a certain amount of delusion regarding their team. That delusion is normally on full display at sites like this one, for instance.

No delusion there, they know who they are so, respect.

Arkansas has yet to be blown out. 2 extremely close loses. This game is also at home. They should have more faith in their team. Doubt we just go in there and beat them by 50 like they think.

It's a fair observation, but I keep coming back to looking at who both teams have played. TN dominated lesser or close to equal competition (OK being one of the best defenses we might face all year). Arkansas struggled with lesser or equal competition. Oklahoma State is HORRIBLE on defense. Below 100th nationally. They struggled with a bad UAB team. They needed 4 interceptions (some not forced) to beat a bad Auburn by 10. A&M is a middle of the road team and they managed 17 total. Arkansas's offensive line is one of the worst in the country at protecting the QB. Their defense is barely top 50 in most categories. If we are who we think we are or remotely close to it, and play up to our ability we SHOULD win by no less than 2 or 3 scores easily. That being said, it's why we play the game, but this is a bad matchup for Arkansas.

OK State has a decent offense but wow that defense is bad. They've allowed 2,403 yards through 5 games, and the only defenses worse than them by that measure are Georgia Southern, NM State, and Kent State, who has allowed 2,913 yards through 5 games lol.

Did you hear why that happened? Arky was ahead late in the 4th. On the aggies final drive, the Arkansas staff decided to put in all second string players on the defensive line, because the starting players appeared tired and a little banged up, so they thought putting in the second string players would be better because they were fresh. It was a dumb mistake. By the time they realized what was going on, they had no time outs left to bring the starters back. It was a dumb decision. If not for that, they would have won. And Oklahoma State they dominated and then threw the game away on a couple of turn overs. They easily could have beaten Oklahoma State and Texas AM and be 5 - 0 right now.
Wow no I didn’t know that. I read where this week they cut practice time short because of fatigue.

to put this in some context. if you extrapolate our defense to 5 games we should only give up 880 yards in 5 games. that is giving up 3x as many yards.

and even though Arkansas outgained OK St, they still lost.

I definitely think them playing 6 straight games is going to have them very tired. mean while our guys have played about 5 halves of football, and had a break.

if we don't wear them out by the second half something is wrong, or we need to hire the Strength & Meth Coach.

-We suck, but especially at home. Bet Tennessee for that EZ MONEY!

-Tennessee will curb stomp us. Isn't it time for basketball season yet?

-A couple of turnovers by our offense combined with the inability to sustain drives may lead to a 50 or 60 burger being served by the Vols.

-If Tennessee comes to play they will eviscerate us. Just a really bad match up for us and we tend to play flat at home. My hope is that they come in overlooking us.

-We just lost to Texas A&M. Tennessee would put a beat down on A&M. That’s all you need to know for Saturday.

-I don’t know who else watched Tennessee just completely dominate NC State and Oklahoma, but I’ve gotta feeling I may just want to take my wife out on a date Saturday instead of watching this.

-I’ve been saying for 3 weeks now that Tennessee is the most complete team in the country. I still believe that. I also believe that hopefully this is Pittman’s last game here. Fingers crossed!

-The absolute best news about The Tennessee game is it won’t be another heartbreaking one score loss. They’ll just beat us by 20 plus.

-Tennessee will do what they want Saturday. We just don’t have the team to compete.

-All will be fine when Pittman is gone. I’m begging Heupel to hang 80.

-I feel like we can compete for at least a quarter but that’s about it. Tennessee wins big.

-This is a primetime game because of Tennessee, not because of us.

Talk about BHS.. Battered Hog Syndrome....

GO VOLS!!!

Billy Ratliffe told the offense to get ready to come back in and he pushed the center back visciously and caused him to step on Clint's foot causing the stumble and fumble. Team of destiny UT was that year. We got the breaks when we needed them and made the breaks as well!
It was just a feeling that lasted all year. No matter the score we were gonna win. We squeaked past a good Syracuse team to start. Held on against the gators. Slept walked through the first half of the Arkansas game and came alive in the second and dominated. All the talk about breaks is hog wash. I do believe we were down THREE scores at the half. When we took over at midfield after Ratliffes' great defensive play. We told them we were coming and where we were going and they were helpless to stop us. Complete domination. Travis Henry was just destroying tacklers. It was great.

Woodsman, you never served in the military, I take it? Maybe Air Force, in some support role like finance or IT?

I understand that some folks like to go through life humble and meek.

Others of us don't. We tend to be more confident. In ourselves, in our team, in our nation, and in just about every other tribe, large or small, we're a part of.

It is, in fact, the Tennessee way to be a fighter, to volunteer for hardship, to put ourselves on the front line. That doesn't come without confidence and self-assurance.

This isn't us letting off steam. It's just how we are.

So call us arrogant if you wish. But I believe we're the ones representing the spirit of Tennessee. I'm not sure what part of the world the humble and meek crowd represent; Delaware, maybe? The Virgin Islands?

Heh.

Go Vols!
Must’ve been mighty painful for that fellow when our baseball team won a national title.

Wow, not a single prediction of victory. Which, in and of itself, kind of concerns me. 🤣

Breaks like our fumbles on the sidelines rolling inbounds while our opponents rolled out of bounds are not hogwash. Used to happen to us all the time.

I think Pittman is a great coach.
I don't see how they upgrade.
He's not losing game with an elite roster. He is fielding solid teams well-coached.
They 2 or 3 breaks away from being in the top 20. I pick Arky to roll Mizzou at the end of the season.

Why is he a great coach? His overall record at Arkansas is 26-27.

26-27 is good for Arky. Sam Pittman is one of the best OLine coaches ever. I don't have a read on his staff. His offense has to take chances to compete. Petrino is having an effect on that offense. I don't think Arkansas can attract a coach who will do better. Pittman would stay and build something there. He has made a career in finding diamonds in the rough.
We have 4 5-stars, Arkansas has 2.
We have 37 4-stars, Arky 27.
He is a great HC to get that program to this point. Those Chad Morris rosters were BAD.
