What other message boards are saying (Arkansas Pre-Game Edition)

Why is he a great coach? His overall record at Arkansas is 26-27.
I would add to that as well; his Oline has been terrible this year. They have a very mobile QB and have some of the worst stats for protection in the country. Pittman is supposedly an elite Oline coach yet that unit has sucked this year and is one of the primary reasons that team isn’t undefeated and instead has two loses.

26-27 is good for Arky. Sam Pittman is one of the best OLine coaches ever. I don't have a read on his staff. His offense has to take chances to compete. Petrino is having an effect on that offense. I don't think Arkansas can attract a coach who will do better. Pittman would stay and build something there. He has made a career in finding diamonds in the rough.
We have 4 5-stars, Arkansas has 2.
We have 37 4-stars, Arky 27.
He is a great HC to get that program to this point. Those Chad Morris rosters were BAD.
Again why is their Oline so bad?

Is their 103rd ranking in sacks allowed blowing your hair back?

to put this in some context. if you extrapolate our defense to 5 games we should only give up 880 yards in 5 games. that is giving up 3x as many yards.

and even though Arkansas outgained OK St, they still lost.
They also outgained aTm and lost. lol

Woodsman, you never served in the military, I take it? Maybe Air Force, in some support role like finance or IT?

I understand that some folks like to go through life humble and meek.

Others of us don't. We tend to be more confident. In ourselves, in our team, in our nation, and in just about every other tribe, large or small, we're a part of.

It is, in fact, the Tennessee way to be a fighter, to volunteer for hardship, to put ourselves on the front line. That doesn't come without confidence and self-assurance.

This isn't us letting off steam. It's just how we are.

So call us arrogant if you wish. But I believe we're the ones representing the spirit of Tennessee. I'm not sure what part of the world the humble and meek crowd represent; Delaware, maybe? The Virgin Islands?

Heh.

Go Vols!
“Ego clouds everything”. Since you’re such a military guy you should know a former seal says this in a book he wrote where he talks about leadership and the importance of humbleness.

Confidence is one thing. Arrogance is another. You’d think we’re coasting on a 10 year span where we won 4 nattys. Sometimes we need to step back and remember our last 20 years. We aren’t going to steamroll everyone this year.

Lmao. You think anyone has legit forgot the last twenty years that lived through it? What does Dooley, Butch Jones, or Pruitt have to do with this team this year right now? I guess if the “fans” walk around with their tails tucked between their legs and “humble” that will magically make the team better on the field. If our fans are being asses to someone then yes I absolutely endorse another fan cooling them down; confidence on a message board though?

I think Pittman is a great coach.
I don't see how they upgrade.
He's not losing game with an elite roster. He is fielding solid teams well-coached.
They 2 or 3 breaks away from being in the top 20. I pick Arky to roll Mizzou at the end of the season.
The roster is similar to Ole Miss though who is in a much better spot under Kiffin (albeit with an easier schedule).

Pittman is something like 2-13 in the last 15 one-score games. Sure it takes something to be competitive in that many SEC games but it’s mostly been wrong decisions or coaching miscues late in games that have caused Arkansas to lose so many of them. It’s a pattern of dominating teams on the stat sheet but losing on the scoreboard.

Petrino in year 2 I think could be dangerous but getting to that point will be difficult since Pittman has to make a bowl this year or he’s gone.

You’re entitled to your feelings, but you’re confused as to what rational means. “Rational” is looking at how bad Florida is and expecting a win. What you’re describing is a decidedly emotional response.
What if "rational" is overrated?

A “trap game” 🙄. He brought up BVS too lol.
lol, maybe? Arkansas needs a game to put everything together. Its been one coaching blunder after another, one turnover after another. Mistakes have lost them games this season. Can they put it together against TN? maybe, but after watching some of their games i feel fairly confident. Their defense has trouble getting lined up before the snap, they tend to play safeties in the box to stop the run, and their offensive line isnt great at all. When you add in how our offense exposes you and how good our defense is, this game shouldnt be close. Can Green make enough plays to keep the crowd and team in it? Thats the ? right there. I dont think he can, i think Arion Carter is one of the fastest people on this team and will spy him the whole game. Given that Heupel is pretty darn good coming off a bye week i dont think Arknsas is going to win. I think this is the game that gets Pittman fired.

You miss the point, arrogance isn't a virtue, and using it to derogate someone who happens to think differently than you is the height of arrogance.
Being humble, even when you're, let's say, superior, is a virtue, and a mark of good character. Even your Good Book says so. Neither of us mean we Vols fans should crawl around and on our hands and knees apologizing for our seeming resurgence. You and VFL-82-JP know that, so one can only wonder what's your game plan here.

I just bought 2 tickets in the second row behind the Tennessee bench for 300... It is wild how expensive our tickets have got for home games.

Rested and ready for the SEC road.

Open Week Success: Josh Heupel owns an 8-1 record in games played after an open week in his six previous seasons as a head coach, including a 3-0 mark at Tennessee and a 5-1 record at UCF. The Vols are 85-49-9 all-time after open dates and 51-35-2 after open weeks in league play. UT has outscored opponents 105-68 under Heupel following open dates with wins at No. 18 Kentucky (2021), at No. 25 LSU (2022) and versus Texas A&M (2023).

Hey guys saw this and found it both funny and somewhat true. Hope it come through

Am I crazy or has your Oline struggled this year in pass protection? Decent at running the ball but a lot of that rushing comes from the qb. Also do you think your team gets a lot of stupid penalties or is well prepared? I just wanted to get the perspective of a rival fan that actually watches their team year in and out. Some of our fans think Pittman is such a great coach and has his team so well prepared; I just wanted to see what your perspective is.

The games I’ve watched Arkansas lose it seems like they should have won. I would argue your team should be undefeated right now if Pittman was getting the most out of the roster.

Yeah I agree with you. Arky may or may not put a whole game together, but TN definitely won’t be the team they do it against.

Yeah the OL last year was possibly the worst we’ve ever had. Near the bottom of the FBS in sacks allowed. It’s slightly better this year but still not good, better at run blocking though for sure.

Pittman reminds me a lot of Bielema at this stage. Bielema also lost a ton of close games in heartbreaking fashion. I do think he does a good job attracting coordinators and I like the staff overall, even the roster for the most part. But it seems like it’s always 2-3 key decisions in the second half of games that never go our way in close games. Eventually that comes down to the head coach making the call. For example wasting a timeout early in the 3rd quarter last week and then not having one to use while A&M was running the ball at will because we had our 2nd string DL in the game and couldn’t substitute.

Most fans love him and want him to succeed but it’s year 5 now and there hasn’t been much progress since his 9-win season in 2021.

"Guys, it was a nightmare," Nutt said. "Do y'all realize, every two to three weeks, I wake up at 2 a.m.? Diana says, 'What's wrong with you? You're not thinking about Tennessee again, are you?' … I said, 'Yeah, I am.'"

Totally agree on confidence/arrogance, but it's gotten really old seeing constant references to the pre-Heupel years on here and the "BVS" nonsense.

Don't be arrogant pricks like Bama and UGa fans have become with success, but those losing days are through and gone, and constantly talking about them makes the fan base sound like those of that mediocre group (UK, USCjr, Florida) that we have escaped. We haven't won a natty or conference title yet, but the rest of the league damn well knows and fears that we are on that level or getting damn close. And not going back.
