What other message boards are saying (Playoff Edition) (Ohio State)

I was born in Harlan, Kentucky. I’ve lived in Mountain City, Trade, Johnson City, and Gray Tennessee. Also lived in Morristown, Flushing(Belmont County) and Athens Ohio. I now live in Armstrong County, PA after a short stent in Allegheny County (Pittsburgh).

All of those areas happen to fall under the commission. They are different in many ways, yes. Heritage, history, culture, heck they were on opposite sides of a bloody war. The thing that unites them, though, is that they have sat on natural resources through the centuries and been exploited for them. They have in many cases been taken advantage of. Whether it was timber, coal, iron, natural gas, etc… people not residing in these places have enriched themselves beyond comprehension on the backs and on the land of these people. This has happened over and over. There was such a great need identified for the people in these areas that became depressed after whatever resource is taken from the lands, they needed an advocate. Hence, the only joint Federal/State combined commission of its kind was created to define and hopefully uplift the region.

I’m not sure what your definition of Appalachia is. Seems based largely on elevation, and if so, then ok… but I can definitively say people in rural Ohio and Pennsylvania have more in common with people in rural East Tennessee than they are dissimilar.
Maybe it boils down to Scots Irish ancestry being the framework of Appalachia, and i dunno... the Appalachian mountains?? more than saying German people, which is 90% of Ohio, who generally lived in towns as merchants and shopkeepers within Appalachia but were not the same. robbed of resources isn't the same culture. Robbed of resources would make Africa Appalachian and Alaska. Appalachia wasn't necessarily famous for Polka music and the accordian as seen in Texas and Ohio. I've never ate sauerkraut in Appalachia but have in Ohio. Even Pennsylvanian Appalachia was scots Irish before that claim is made. Ohio will never be Appalachian just because there are some rural people who do meth there and pretend to be rednecks is not appalachian culture. Mexico is not the USA because the Rio Grande river separates them, and Mexico shares a lot of similarities as across the river in El Paso, same with Ohio, the Ohio River is the end of the region and always will be. Ohio needs to make it's own culture it is not our job to be inclusive of you

According to your definition of Appalachia culture being defined as what happened to them, Irish Italians and Jews are the same. Mississippi is Appalachian to you because you're an ARC shill anyways I have no need to argue against crap. Appalachia is named after the Appalachian mountains and the range continues into Scotland not Germany. You would likely argue California is an Atlantic state because they're defined as ACC by a commission, and the wine industry is in decline by foreign investment exploitation in California and Virginia. Coal mining and resources is not what defines Appalachia. West NC is major Appalachia for example. Ohio is not in the top 15 states for historical origins of bluegrass, just to begin the argument of culture. They're not in the top 20 for moonshine historical origins. Ironically the top 7 is just Appalachia

A lot of appalachians did move to Ohio maybe that is why you are confused. A lot of Californians moved to Tennessee but I'll be damned before twisting logic.

Can't leave Jeremiah Smith in 1 on 1 or he'll pay it off every time.
McCoy can cover Smith. We just don’t want him to have to cover Smith (or Egbuka) for 5 seconds at a time. Now if Howard throws perfect balls all game that their guys can catch even with our corners in phase, that’s a different story.

They have Carnell Tate, Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith. They have a phenominal receiving core. The key to this game will be stopping Judkins and Henderson from rushing and putting a crap ton of pressure on Will Howard when he throws.

That’s exactly my point. This is the best group of receivers we’ve faced all year, but our secondary isn’t the piece of Swiss cheese people like to pretend it is. Our corners are among the best in the country, imo. Meaning that I think they can hold up if we get a reasonable amount of pressure on Howard. If we can’t get any pressure on Howard, we could trot Sauce Gardner and Jalen Ramsey out there and it would still be a long day. Conversely, if their tackles just can’t hold up at all against Pearce and company, and we stifle the run game and start pinning our ears back, they could bring Olave and MHj back and I don’t know that it would make a difference either.

The cold would not matter if we were Miami team. Most of the starters on every team are from somewhere else. Not to mention the portal has really spread people around. I would bet there a few on the Ohio team that will see their first snow this winter in Ohio. It’s not like their team is made up of all northern kids that never seen humidity, and our team is made of all southern kids that never seen snow

Agreed.

As a matter of fact their freshman phenom wide receiver Jeremiah smith is spending his first winter in Ohio from Miami Gardens Florida. I wonder how he will handle the weather.

I just landed back in Denver after suffering two days in Columbus for work. What a $hithole. Grey, rainy and flat. Truly the dog’s anus of our great nation. Pathetic excuse for a state. I talked to some OSU fans and they feel like they have a jeckyl and Hyde team, no idea which one will show up. One thought it wouldn’t sell out b/c of people traveling for Christmas. Sure hope he’s right about that. We certainly have the jeckyl n Hyde problem as well. No idea what to expect with this game so Vols by fiddy.

-Nico compiled all of his stats against the turds on their schedule and wilted in the big games, for the most part. But, they still went 10-2 in a great conference, so they are indeed a weird team to evaluate.

-If we can beat Tennessee (at home)… we then matchup with the 1 seed Oregon Ducks & can steal their path the rest of the way. I like it. Going to have to be lat 4 great teams. It’s Ryan Day’s chance to change his narrative forever.

-Let's not overlook Tennessee since this is Cooper 2.0 era we all know you can't spell Citrus without UT.

-We are a scary team to have to deal with and some of the Tennessee over confidence I have seen is laughable. Believe in the Buckeyes!

-I don’t think Tennessee’s offense or QB are very good, but we’ve laid some eggs this year also. And our patchwork OL against an SEC D line in a game in December outside in Columbus is scary. We don’t have a FG kicker to rely on, which is important in games like this (probably low-scoring, elements at play where fluky things can happen).

-100% we are winning this game. Tennessee won't last a half at the shoe.

-Ryan Day has proven that he needs the better player at all 22 positions to win football games. Gonna be tough because Tennessee might have a better player at one or two positions.

-Michigan beat us by almost never blitzing and keeping 2 safeties back and baiting us into run into their D line that we couldn't handle. Will Tennessee deploy a similar strategy? I don't know. But if they do blitz us and leave our WR trio in one and ones, I think we should like that. Our OL is better pass blocking than run blocking, and our backs can pick up blitzes with the best of them. I would welcome an over aggressive strategy by Tennessee, but I don't think we'll get it. They are going to play the pass like Michigan and hope OSU still struggles to run into light boxes.

-Heupel is pretty clever. Advantage goes to the Vols coaching staff with 13 days to prepare.

-Did you see Day’s interview, dude is so glum and dispirited….he’s already lost….toast actually….I observed little hype and positive emotion from him.

-I actually think they will come out and crush tenn. I’m usually conservative with my picks but this is setting up to be an easy bet and win. I have Osu like 28-13.

-Concerned about TN's defensive front against this oline...with last year's Cotton Bowl performance still weighing on my mind.

-Tennessee isn't in Ryan Day's head like Michigan so I don't see us stubbornly playing into their strength ( I really hope this is the case). Our offensive line won't be manhandled like they were against Michigan either so I expect a little bit more success running the ball and some better protection which should give Howard more time to find the talented receivers.

-I believe that there's a lot of angry players looking for redemption. Kind of feel the same about the coaches.

-Well the Ryan Day effect is the biggest problem for OSU...If he can keep himself out of the play calling, and allow the team to play its game I give OSU a 7 out of 10 chance to win...if we screw around and get destroyed up front...well these weeks off preparing will mean nothing...

-My confidence in the Bucks never wavers. We can beat anyone. And in most all cases, we probably should. Our Defense will be the best unit on the field next Saturday and it won’t even be particularly close either. All we’ll really need from our Offense is to not turn the ball over and to stay ahead of the chains. Touchdowns instead of field goals, when given the opportunities.

-Support the team regardless of who they are playing. Pretty sure most everyone was calling TN soft all season.

-I have very little confidence in Ryan Day and the offensive line. I wouldn’t be surprised if they laid an egg at home.

-Tennessee got the worst possible draw in the playoffs. We'll destroy these soft ass fools.

-Ohio State has the potential to outrush Tennessee and blow them out. Ohio State has played a murderer's row of rush defenses and still managed 5 yds/carry.

-Saw Tennessee live this year vs. Oklahoma (my brother is DE for OU and played in the game)…Oklahoma D put out the book on how to stop Tennessee. We just have to follow it.

-In 1996, the University of TN wore illegal cleats in a soaking wet Peach Bowl. Karma is coming.

-Cold temps are going to have us see injuries. I have no faith in our backups on the OL if this should happen. Of course, the knife cuts both ways and it could end up biting them.

-TN will be a tough matchup, but one we can win. Personally I don't believe there is any team that should beat us, if we play well on offense. The defense is playing well enough for me to say that.

-It's going to be way too cold for Tennessee. They won't be able to throw and their rushing offense is mid. We should roll.

-We get the absolute easiest 1st round game. We are blessed for sure. Let's Roll!!

-Our roster can compete with any SEC school. Ryan Day will have to have a great gameplan though.

-I've watched Tennessee a couple of times this year, they don't impress me.

-Tennessee is a fraud and I don't care what anyone says.
> and their rushing offense is mid

You sure about that, big dog?

I don't read to much into it, but I am of the thought process that you should not talk game if you really don't know.
Turf field is going to be a factor regarding speed. Speed works both ways as well. I wish the game was tomorrow. Get this settled.
I believe our Defense will shut them down because of OSU issues, we stay fresh and we have played better competition up front than them.
Not sure about the Offense but we will score more than our defense gives up.

Nope, don't want this game to be played tomorrow-

1. We are pretty dinged up. Every off day we can get at this point is a blessing

2. The Suckeyes got embarrassed the last time they took the field. Every day they get to hear about how embarrassing losing to Michigan was etc. The more demoralized they are when they play us, honestly the better. Add that them being wound tighter than than a drum works in our favor

The bottom line in this game is the LOS play. This will be the best LOS talent Ohio State has played since Michigan; I think we’re far deeper and better than Michigan as well. You can scheme around your Oline getting whipped some but it’s unlikely you win. Really think this game is decided by who’s Oline performs better in this game; we’ve had our struggles but we’re used to seeing elite talent in most games.
