What other message boards are saying (Playoff Edition) (Ohio State)

Do you know what the ARC is? Lol. It is not a diagram of Appalachia, rather a lobby of poor communities. Would you say Mississippi is Appalachian? And not Nelson County Virginia? All of North Alabama is Appalachian? Randomly Lewisburg and Lawrence County is Appalachian yet some of the most iconic parts of Blue Ridge Virginia is not? Yet Ohio with an elevation of 7 feet and not many Scots Irish is?
I get your point, and I agree to an extent. My point was that based on some criteria (e.g., the ARC) there are areas (counties) in Ohio that are considered to be part of Appalachia, as ludicrous as that sounds. Heck, I live in Huntsville and according to the ARC, we're part of the greater Appalachian region. Not sure I agree with that when comparing it to where I grew up (Athens, TN/McMinn County).

I gotcha, I'd say 1 or 2 counties of Ohio qualify but not really. They're only Appalachian on paper because so many people people in the 60s moved to leave Appalachia 😆 ill consider them Appalachian when Tennessee considers itself East California!! Where does Appalachia stop if Ohio is remotely considered Appalachia? Utah?

Sorry to come off strong since you understand completely. You are more ARC Appalachian than the highest portion of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, one of the most mountainous strips of all of Appalachia!! In fact just about that entire strip in westERN virginia is twice as high as anything in West Virginia with small exceptions and much more cultural Appalachian history than west virginia by 100s of years! Look into the Blue Ridge of Virginia!

They have a town called Appalachia on the Appalachian trail that isn't Appalachian but Ohio is!?!?!

this is not Appalachian but 30 foot high Ohio is!

Regarding JD Vance

If you grew up in TN and visited China once a year in the summer, are you Chinese? He's a Cincinnati guy.

-Nico compiled all of his stats against the turds on their schedule and wilted in the big games, for the most part. But, they still went 10-2 in a great conference, so they are indeed a weird team to evaluate.

-If we can beat Tennessee (at home)… we then matchup with the 1 seed Oregon Ducks & can steal their path the rest of the way. I like it. Going to have to be lat 4 great teams. It’s Ryan Day’s chance to change his narrative forever.

-Let's not overlook Tennessee since this is Cooper 2.0 era we all know you can't spell Citrus without UT.

-We are a scary team to have to deal with and some of the Tennessee over confidence I have seen is laughable. Believe in the Buckeyes!

-I don’t think Tennessee’s offense or QB are very good, but we’ve laid some eggs this year also. And our patchwork OL against an SEC D line in a game in December outside in Columbus is scary. We don’t have a FG kicker to rely on, which is important in games like this (probably low-scoring, elements at play where fluky things can happen).

-100% we are winning this game. Tennessee won't last a half at the shoe.

-Ryan Day has proven that he needs the better player at all 22 positions to win football games. Gonna be tough because Tennessee might have a better player at one or two positions.

-Michigan beat us by almost never blitzing and keeping 2 safeties back and baiting us into run into their D line that we couldn't handle. Will Tennessee deploy a similar strategy? I don't know. But if they do blitz us and leave our WR trio in one and ones, I think we should like that. Our OL is better pass blocking than run blocking, and our backs can pick up blitzes with the best of them. I would welcome an over aggressive strategy by Tennessee, but I don't think we'll get it. They are going to play the pass like Michigan and hope OSU still struggles to run into light boxes.

-Heupel is pretty clever. Advantage goes to the Vols coaching staff with 13 days to prepare.

-Did you see Day’s interview, dude is so glum and dispirited….he’s already lost….toast actually….I observed little hype and positive emotion from him.

-I actually think they will come out and crush tenn. I’m usually conservative with my picks but this is setting up to be an easy bet and win. I have Osu like 28-13.

-Concerned about TN's defensive front against this oline...with last year's Cotton Bowl performance still weighing on my mind.

-Tennessee isn't in Ryan Day's head like Michigan so I don't see us stubbornly playing into their strength ( I really hope this is the case). Our offensive line won't be manhandled like they were against Michigan either so I expect a little bit more success running the ball and some better protection which should give Howard more time to find the talented receivers.

-I believe that there's a lot of angry players looking for redemption. Kind of feel the same about the coaches.

-Well the Ryan Day effect is the biggest problem for OSU...If he can keep himself out of the play calling, and allow the team to play its game I give OSU a 7 out of 10 chance to win...if we screw around and get destroyed up front...well these weeks off preparing will mean nothing...

-My confidence in the Bucks never wavers. We can beat anyone. And in most all cases, we probably should. Our Defense will be the best unit on the field next Saturday and it won’t even be particularly close either. All we’ll really need from our Offense is to not turn the ball over and to stay ahead of the chains. Touchdowns instead of field goals, when given the opportunities.

-Support the team regardless of who they are playing. Pretty sure most everyone was calling TN soft all season.

-I have very little confidence in Ryan Day and the offensive line. I wouldn’t be surprised if they laid an egg at home.

-Tennessee got the worst possible draw in the playoffs. We'll destroy these soft ass fools.

-Ohio State has the potential to outrush Tennessee and blow them out. Ohio State has played a murderer's row of rush defenses and still managed 5 yds/carry.

-Saw Tennessee live this year vs. Oklahoma (my brother is DE for OU and played in the game)…Oklahoma D put out the book on how to stop Tennessee. We just have to follow it.

-In 1996, the University of TN wore illegal cleats in a soaking wet Peach Bowl. Karma is coming.

-Cold temps are going to have us see injuries. I have no faith in our backups on the OL if this should happen. Of course, the knife cuts both ways and it could end up biting them.

-TN will be a tough matchup, but one we can win. Personally I don't believe there is any team that should beat us, if we play well on offense. The defense is playing well enough for me to say that.

-It's going to be way too cold for Tennessee. They won't be able to throw and their rushing offense is mid. We should roll.

-We get the absolute easiest 1st round game. We are blessed for sure. Let's Roll!!

-Our roster can compete with any SEC school. Ryan Day will have to have a great gameplan though.

-I've watched Tennessee a couple of times this year, they don't impress me.

-Tennessee is a fraud and I don't care what anyone says.

OSU Fan here. I come in peace.

I admittedly don’t know much about Tennessee. I kind of think, like OSU, your ceiling is high enough to beat anyone in the country handily if everything is clicking.

On OSU… we have a ton of talent, but this game is hard to figure out after the Michigan loss. I tend to think we are going to play our best and win big or roll over and lose badly.

Don’t think the weather will matter. What’s funny — I actually think warm weather favors OSU. We have a solid run defense, but our biggest strength is our receiving core. If Ryan Day gets out of his own way, the receivers can torch anyone. Unfortunately, I’m 50/50 on whether he can.

I will say, our defense is really good, but always starts slow. We give up very few points in the 2nd half.

The o-line concerns are a bit overstated. We didn’t give up a single sack against the Michigan D-line.

Overall, I see this as a great matchup and wouldn’t be surprised with any result. Don’t think I’ll bet on this one unless it’s snowing and we are forced to ground and pound.

Do you believe the ground and pound method will work?

Just asking because you said you don't know much about Tennessee. A little secret Tennessee gives up less yards per carry than Ohio State.

Ohio State (38th)averages 24 more passing yards per game than Tennessee(62nd).

Tennessee(9th) averages 64 more rushing yards per game than Ohio State(59th).

Both teams have pretty good defenses by the stats. I keep thinking back to something Saban said recently about not all schedules are built the same. I tend to believe not all stats are built the same as well.

I recall a team we played last year that accumulated top 5 defensive stats in the Big 10 only to get a mudhole stomped in them to the tune of 35-0 by a freshman QB.

To reiterate Ohios tallest mountain is 20% the size of Nebraska and Kansas' tallest. I'm not sure if you're trolling me but this is Campbell Hill, the tallest mountain in Oh*o. There is a reason actual mountainfolk in TN EKY VA WV NC NEGA laugh at JD Vance and Ohio people saying they're appalachians

Early on in my USAF career I was stationed at Webb AFB TX, Big Spring, TX, and I kept hearing ppl talking about Scenic Mountain. I said where is it? and ppl would give me directions and I couldn't find it. I said to myself that sounds like the way I go to work everyday (I was living off base), finally one day I saw the sign "Scenic Mountain". I had a big laugh so when ppl would ask me whether I had seen it I would say "back Home (TN) we call that a hill and those mesquite trees you refer to "we call them shrubs". That Scenic Hill was at least 10 times taller than the one pictured above. They did have prairie dogs though.

Also they were touting their Defense one of the best in the country. Waa-Waa! They had fed their linemen so much grain (like their cattle) that they couldn't catch a tortoise. TN's fast, quick players just ran all over them.

Ethan Davis will all go off this game.

James Pearce, Omar Norman Lott, Tyree West and Joshua Jospehs will all be remembered forever because of this game.

Let’s give the Buckeyes what they really want.
A new Head Coach.

And maybe give us Jeremiah Smith as a reward.!
Yeah, I think we should borrow Michigan' 'helmets, it will have them spazzing before kickoff. LOL.

But you did only run for 3 yards per carry…

When we moved from Tennessee to Lafayette, Louisiana, about 15 years ago, we kept getting directions to "go over the hill" to get various places. Louisiana is nothing but flat, so we couldn't figure it out. We finally realized the "hill" was the railroad crossing - which was basically a bump. We left Louisiana behind a decade or so ago but still laugh about that.

Brother, if you want to be a Buckeye sympathizer, I'm not going to stop you. I'm not going to try to convince an irrational group that has dug in their heels on being the center of the universe that they're not. Every fanbase has that to an extent but they're the worst of them all in that regard. I hope we smack them in the mouth at their place and they get to cry about it all offseason.
The only thing they're going to thank us for is getting Ryan Day fired.

I hope Ohio States players and coaching staff underestimate our offense as much as their fans do.

When are fans of Big 10 teams gonna realize their defenses aren't as talented as they look on paper? It's putrid offenses that result in them having good defensive stats.

Wow they don't have a clue about our team if they don't know we're elite running the ball. We just need a couple or maybe 3 explosives from Nico to bust this thing open. We're penalty prone but our defense kept Arkansas and Georgia winnable. I'm excited and feel like we're playing with house money and nothing to lose. Time to take that next step as a program and win the really big prime time road game. How hungry are these guys? I hope they don't start slow but even if they do nothing I've seen about them all season says they'll lay down and quit. Lol at the soft comments....

OSU averaged 169 ypg rushing. UT averaged 233 ypg.

Against P4 opponents, OSU averaged 145 ypg. UT avg'd 198.

We can go a lot deeper but there are two facts that their delusional fans have way off. One, UT is NOT soft and especially in the run game. Two, that the rush Ds they've faced are better than those that UT has faced. For instance the same Nebraska D that smothered OSU's run game gave up 215 to IU the week prior.

I don't disrespect OSU. They're talented. They've dominated the Big 10 in large measure because they are so much more talented than most of that league. It will be a tough game to win. UT needs to jump out early then control their O. Banks has to be better than he's been the past few games.

PS- I don't feel bad about UT's secondary matched up against their WRs. Good talent. Not scary. Not on the same level as Bama or UGA IMO.
I agree for the most part but this will be the best trio we’ve seen at the wr this year… I’m still not scared I know our secondary will be up for the task but they will make some plays… we gotta limit the tds and I think we will do that… I do think Will Howard will be under pressure a lot but he is mobile so we need to get home and finish… I think we go win a tough lower scoring game in the Range of 24-17.

Fentanyl has been a big problem in SE Ohio. It started with the pill mills, evolved into black tar and then it became Fentanyl. Columbus has similar issues.

Yep. Every city in America. Kills over 100,000 people per year. For the 1st time in US history, the leading cause of death for people aged 16 to 45 isnt car accidents, or heart attacks, or even obesity. Its drug overdose.

Fwiw my brother in law died of it and his wife is now a prostitute in Asheville who gave up her kids. Them, and every other opiate addict I know started out on pain pills...got addicted and physically dependent...then when they actually started locking up doctors and nurses in the pill mills and pain pills became impossible to get without a terminal illness like cancer, the Chinese and Mexican Cartels worked together to begin flooding this country with fentanyl. It has absolutely destroyed many cities and counties. Killed so many otherwise good people. Millions of lives destroyed. Its a horrible epidemic and as a country we are losing ground against it.

No I think OSU would lose if they did ground and pound. That was my point.

SE Ohio is basically Monroe County. Probably fewer meth labs…then again maybe more. Prettt country though. Athens, home to Ohio University (which the “The” is meant to slight, despite OU being 80ish years older than OSU) is quite nice.

I spent some time going to college in Athens before transferring to Tennessee. Beautiful college town. Underrated really. Miami Oxford gets all the credit for a nice campus but the hills in Athens, history of the school and its proximity to hocking hills, make it a really nice place to stay.

Best place to get a legendary hot dog and Cajun fries is called oh Betty’s
