What Other Message Boards Are Saying: Vandy Edition

Were all 15 fans in attendance shouting that "Beat UT" chant? Did they start a wave following it? Maybe sing Sweet Caroline? Hope that beach ball didn't blow to far to the left and out of reach.

Naw man! With as few fans as Vandy has, it could never be considered a wave. A ripple?...yes. A wave? Definitely not.

Derek Dooley has 4 SEC wins. Half are against Vandy. They think we don't belong in the SEC?? I thought Vandy was known for academics.

Omg their message board is the most entertaining thing I've read since Jim Jones diary.

How anyone can doubt this team after what has happened previously is beyond comprehension.

VU 34. Ucheat 17.

Once things start going in VU's favor it never stops. You should know this by now.

They also believe the the last 50 years of losing to UT is because UT cheats...omg best board ever.

I am bored at work and just killed an hour reading vandy's board.

Wow. What a crappy layout. Then, the threads. Pure gold. The bill of their fans are just silly. Now volnation has its share of crazy posters, but the bulk of vandy's are plain stupid. I suppose they choose to forget history and live in 2012 only.

Vandy is improved but we should still light them up.

I know some people don't read other boards but that one is hilarious and a good time killer if you need one.

Awwww how cute! They beat us twice in 20 something years and we are their little brother??? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

How many games in a row would Vandy have to win in order for the game to feel like it had turned in their favor? 5? 10?

Quote's from their boards. Let us examine this rare and almost extinct, creature, the "Vanderbilt fan."

Here we have one saying qb is the only position that matters.... They lead the offense, but if nobody is there to help they can't win.
also, ive given up on recruiting rankings.. if you have a good qb you will win

On Hurd after his injury-
If he doesn't switch to WR, he's not going to play a whole season anywhere

They've even invented something called a "Dore Walk?"
I'll be there - Dore Walk East!

With the exception of Matthews, this is laughable-
Also... if ACS, Matthews, Krause, Seymour and Tate all contribute, I REALLY think we will win.

These guys between them blow away UT in terms of talent at skilled positions.

However there were a few comments that lead me to believe that there is hope for them as a species-

I'm saying that anyone basing any prediction for this year game's on last year's performance is complete error.

It is a very debatable point who is "better" UT beat a USC team that throttled us by 28 in the first quarter. UT went toe to toe with a UGA team that beat LSU. While we beat a team appearing to be UGA, it was not the same UGA team that was in Knoxville. The UF game is the same, though I think we appeared the better team.

UT also played Missouri tougher than Vandy, though that is damning with faint praise.

There is good and bad in this one-
Clearly Vandy has benefited from the schedule, which has killed UT. The bye week is a good equalizer giving them the advantage of extra prep and rest. It would have been nice to catch them last week after a brutal stretch.

I think you'll see inspired play from both teams, and anything less would be a complete surprise. We have just as much to prove as they do, so at the end of the day, motivations do not point you in either direction.

So how does each team play it? I think we can be more flexible due to the QB situations. ACS and Mathews give us something that makes it very difficult for them to just cram the box all day and not account for. If they do, sooner or later those two will make some plays and beat them. Seymour is going to get some tough yards and grind out some plays, but, as noted, having Kimbrow get wide a couple of times would be a bonus, just don't turn it over.

On the other side we absolutely have to stop the run option. The DE's must be aware and make plays, while the DT and MLB make it tough. Though the strategy of playing man is risky, I do like the thought of Dobbs trying to beat Hal, Ladler, & Co through the air. We've been on a roll creating turnovers, and that's the key to the game.

Their problem is that most of them weren't even fans before last year. They have no knowledge of the history of this match-up. They just know that they won last year, so therefore they're better.

I saw a video of an old Vandy fan crying after they beat us last year. I can respect that man...he's surely seen it all. But, these Frankophiles are clueless.

Frankophiles, lol. Props. And yes, majority of them don't know squat about the series. Doesn't matter though. No more than 3 years from now they'll all be rooting for a different team or have learned their place.

It was pretty clever, wasn't it? There's this scene in Django Unchained that I think sums up Vandy's fanbase pretty well. The butler tells christoph waltz that Dicaprio is "a bit of a Fracophile", to which he responds "what civilized man isn't these days?". That's Vandy to a T (pun intended), just switch the "c" out for a "k", and I see them having that exact conversation with each other.

I've never seen it but I have to watch it now soley because of that one scene.

And From now on Frankophiles is the only way we should refer to the Vanderbilt "fans."

Hey guys, I talked to a Vandy fan today and he told (snicker) me (snort).......

I can't do it. In all of my life living in the great state of Tennessee, I have never met a Vandy fan.
True story.

After the Oregon game I saw a guy in Walmart wearing an Oregon hat and a Miami tshirt. I asked him something about Oregon and he replied that he was really a Vandy fan.

Most likely there isnt a Vandy fan alive who has seen them beat Ut more than 3 times..

Oh gotcha. He didn't reference the Sewanee post so I didn't understand.

Someone explain to me how they were more impressive than Neyland's teams who went 2 seasons without being scored on.

Five of those games happened in six days. All on the road. And they also were not scored upon as well.

And to be fair, Sewanee was an SEC founder, they just went even more towards education (and religion) than Vandy did, so it didn't make it very long.

The statement the vandy guy made was that that Sewanee team was the best in the history of the state of TN, and to be blunt, that is not a very bad argument. Vandy guys say stupid things, but that is not one of them, not if you value history and records over newness and fandom.

-The general theme is pretty much "Run the ball on UT all night like Auburn and we will kill them like Auburn did".

Yeah right...Auburn has the number 3 rush game in the country...Vandy is around 84th....but let them think what they want, lol.
