I'll throw one out there. I've never understood the appeal of Bruce Springsteen. His singing is more of a growl, and most of his songs are a cure for insomnia.
Overrated hipster bands:
Arcade Fire
Mumford & Sons
Grizzly Bear
War on Drugs
Of Monsters and Men
Arctic Monkeys
Fun
Wavves
Best Coast
I have to disagree. I don't even know most the bands you named. Mumford & Sons is OK, just every song sounds the same.
But Arcade Fire is so good. Every album is different, they are great musicians, the lyrics are smart and interesting, and they put on a fantastic show. They are one of the few contemporary bands that I like.
They're just showing their ignorance. They were peerless in their time. They were winding it down 50 years ago... it's dated. It was experimental. What they did in the studio was ground breaking. Only fools would consider the Beatles to be overrated. I'd challenge them to post a list of who they consider to be underrated.
Didnt like Suburbs, that is where they lost it. Funeral is a great album.
It's funny that Suburbs is the one that won the Grammy. It's the biggest crowd pleaser for sure. Then they went to their most bizarre place with Reflektor. Funeral is easily their best album. Named my dog Laika because of that album (which led me to read about the famous dog named Laika).
The most overrated artists of all time, IMO, are Jimmy Buffett, The Beach Boys, and Bob Dylan.
Much of popular music is sung by people with marginal talent, relatively speaking. Many of them are not musicians or songwriters, but rather performers relying on showmanship rather than musicianship. I like a good show as much as anyone else, but for me to really think you are good you have to be a true musician too.
Bieber is awful, but that goes without saying. Taylor Swift is incredibly overrated, not a good singer, and all her songs are about the same thing and written by someone else. Much of the fake country is laughable, although it is unfair to lump all modern country artists into that category (some people, like Chris Stapleton, actually are true country artists but with a modern/different sound).
