What qb should start against UGA next weekend?

let Joe take his lumps vs GA and put Nico in late after GA has put up 45+ on this D that looks like they are not interested in playing.

Milton should start against Georgia and Nico should start against Vandy and whoever they play against in the bowl game. However anyone on here feels about Milton doesn't really matter anymore, because the season is over and right now it is all about getting ready for next year.

With the above being said, I still want there to be a real QB competition in training camp. Enough of this letting whomever has the most senority, or who knows where all the bodies are buried be the unquestioned starter, barring injury.

all you can say about Melton is he is a serviceable QB, but he is not championship quality. one game it's a scoop six he gives the other team the next it's a pic-six. A six year QB should not throw a pic-six

I see it differently. Not giving him a chance to inspire some confidence within the program and within himself is what puts the future in jeopardy.

You can’t just lock him in a shed until you’re ready to start winning and expect him to com out looking like a Heisman candidate
I don't think Carson Beck had taken many meaningful snaps (GA has had a lot of mop up chances in the last two years) before starting and he may win a Natty this year.

He’s almost gotten beat a few times this year too. Won his first road game by 7 points. Fortunately for him every position on Georgia roster has NFL talent. He’s playing much better now

The Vols don't have that luxury. For the Vols to have a good season, the QB has to be the best player on the team.

Agreed.

Hit the portal for some competition next season at a minimum. I think Nico is the future but he shouldn't be comfortable.

I think we'd take almost losing next year and being in the Natty conversation, but maybe that's me.

There's an article on Fox about Arch Manning not seeing any time at TX and Archie talking about how it was better for Eli to sit two seasons and learn than it was for Peyton to get tossed in as a Freshman, despite UT having lots of talent.

Expecting a kid who played just 2 years of high school ball, I think, before coming to the SEC for about a year to be ready for one of the best teams in the country is not realistic.

Even the best QBs benefit from sitting and learning, if possible, and yes, yes, yes.....I know there have been exceptions.

Edit: figured out how to link to Fox:

Navy Shuler. There’s no reason to not give a shot to the senior if we’re only going to half ass try on defense.

We aren’t Georgia. It’s a completely different situation. We’re in rebuilding mode. They are in plug and play mode.

You and I disagree but I appreciate the thought-provoking response

If you all think Milton won’t start the last two games unless he gets hurt, you’re setting yourself up for major disappointment

I’m sorry but the kid is getting major bank per year to be here. In this new era of NIL, these guys aren’t just some raw players without expectations. There is no downside to him finishing out this year.
It's because we have so much invested in him that it would be foolish to throw him out to the wolves in that game. He's a true freshman and this is a marathon, not a sprint. You wanna start him against Vandy after we fall to 7-4, I'm fine with that. It won't happen because Heup isn't going to bench Joe Milton on Senior Day in Neyland Stadium, but in theory, I'd be fine with Nico finishing out the year by getting that start and then all the bowl prep reps and starting the bowl game. But starting him at UGA is foolish. You won't change my mind on that.

Let Joe finish up the season.
Why? Time to put Milton in the rear view mirror and start looking towards the future. I just hope Milton completed his degree while he was here, because probably wont have much of a future in the NFL. I think Gurrantano could of put up more than 6 against this Mizzou team.
