What school has the most obnoxious fan base?

There are few things worse than living in the heart of Ohio State territory. I've been around plenty of fan bases (including most of the SEC), and Ohio State trumps them all.

I'm also too close to Notre Dame as well. As far as I'm concerned, they're a natural fit in the Big 12...er, "10". When they're good they never shut the hell up, and when they're bad they fall back on "academic standards" and some team they had back in the 1920s.

Unfortunately TN fans would have to be near the top. They thought they could stick some doofus like Dooley in and win games just because they are TN!

I remember going to the UT vs Vandy game the year after the national championship game. Fans on both sides where decent, but the traffic cops around the stadium at the time where worse than Gator cops. Second worst driving experience in relation to a sporting event since I went to a Braves game.

The scariest walk back to the car was in Knoxville following our OT loss to you guys in '98. My other 8 trips to Neyland were uneventful as far as obnoxious fans. I get a random "Gators Suck" from a frat kid, usually traveling in a pack of frat kids, but that's expected.

I've attended the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville every year since 1984 and I've seen the worst in both fan bases.

The most obnoxious fan base believe it or not were UK fans in 2007. They were ranked for a change, they upset #1 LSU the week prior, and Gameday was in Lexington for the first time. A fight almost broke out when we started setting up our tailgate tents next to a couple UK fans' tents who were looking to start trouble. That was a first.

LSU fans are rowdy, but in my travels to Baton Rouge I noticed if you can handle a 50 year-old Cajun yelling Tiger Bait directly in your ear, that 50 year-old Cajun will invite you to his tailgate and feed you some of the best grub ever cooked up outside of a football stadium.

I've had no issues with Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Arkansas, Ole Miss or Vandy fans. The Mizzou fans we tailgated with in Gainesville were great, and we exchanged contact info so they could return the hospitality when UF comes to their place later this season.

Ive never been to Kyle Field, but from all accounts Texas A&M fans are easily the friendliest in the conference.

And of course, when I'm in Gainesville I like to sexually assault the opposing coach's wife while throwing batteries and piss bombs at rival fans...but not before slashing their tires, busting out windows and keying "Go Gators!" in the hood of their rental car. If I'm feeling really good I'll punch a random elderly rival fan in the face, then steal their wallet.

I have an interesting story about that night in 1998. I was a student at UT, and my girlfriend and my roomates were at the game. I still have a picture of the goal posts coming down somewhere. Anyway, after the game she had a seizure in a throng of fans. It took an hour to get an ambulance to us and get her to the hospital.

The point of this was that 1) we had some gator fans sitting right behind us and they were the nicest people in the world, they took pictures of us and actually sent them via snail mail (ah the good old days). 2) When I was sitting in the waiting room at the hospital four patients came in, all wearing Orange, who had been stabbed in a bar brawl by some insane Florida fan. That forever tainted my idea of Florida fans, although I can't really say that I have had any negative run ins personally (I am, in fact, married to a Gator).

The nicest fan base that I ever saw was Bama. Obviously I was on campus during our undefeated run, while Bama was way down. I had more beer bought for me by Alabama graduates on the strip than any other single fan base. I always enjoyed the respectful rivalry with those guys. Bama fans are idiots, Bama grads have always been a respectful bunch (to me anyway).

The absolute worst fan base on the planet during my tenure was always Georgia. Those idiots were rowdy, cocky and didn't mind threatening you in your home stadium. By threaten I mean literally tell you that they were going to hunt you down and cut you. I always thought they took it a little far, especially considering the long losing streak they had going against us.

I guess desperation makes some fans go nuts, I have seen it from our own recently.

Well, I've been in Neyland dressed in blue. Walked right down to the lower section, on the 45 yard line and sat down in someone's season ticket seats that they had sold me. Got some ugly looks but for the most part it was civil.

Worst experience was with a South Carolina fan. The guy literally pushed an older man after they'd won. I got in front of the older guy, he was probably 65-70 and pushed the kid back and told him to back off. He did when he realized alot of people were ready to jump him.

Last year, worst fanbase was Mizzou. I've been told they were very nice, guess we parked close to the douche part of their fanbase.

Better to be a has been than a never been

I'd rather be Uk than fall from grace the way UT did. I went through the Billy G years and let me tell you, one of a fans worst feelings is when you get used to success and it leaves for a while. Those times are the worst imo. Even last year, missing the tourney, it was hard. Sucks to be a great school going through some hard times (even just 1 year).
