What should Year Two look like?

Being unable to progress from the huge South Carolina win, the Vols will have to regroup for Spring ball. CBJ got me believing, but it is difficult not to consider Year One disappointing. We will all have theories: Dooley-schtank, no talent or speed, coaching turnover seeding confusion in plays / schemes, etc.

What then are the expectations for Year Two? Are we on course at 6 - 6 with a bowl game? Because Year One did not meet minimum expectations, do we have to see major improvements in the W-column? Would simply surviving our schedule better than this year be enough? Does a loss at KY this week change the metric for Year Two? Or does the 8-loss barrier not matter now?

Most elite coaches make significant progress in Year Two. What does Butch and Team 118 have to do in Year Two to demonstrate elite level coaching?

It will be filled with an absence of negative posters after all wins, and moronic, "the sky is falling" posts after every loss.

I would flip the Ole Miss Game to a L and the SoCar Game to a W. Other than that, it's a very realistic expectation for 2014.

6-6 Would be the baseline because we will likely be favored in half and the underdog in the other 6.

Would be nice to beat someone unexpected again. UF UGA and USCe will all be down or worse than this year

Yeah I agree. That's why I put the prediction at 7-5. I would always like to do at least 1 game better than what I think will happen.

I foresee Tennessee having smaller and more athletic linemen on offense (Tiny goes pro with the seniors). I see Marlin Lane becoming a 1000+ back. After this past weekend's debacle against Vandy, I see a wide-open QB competition in not only the spring but the fall (and yes, that includes Justin Worley). I see the role of the TE in the passing game increasing with the additions of Helm and Wolf.

Defensively, I see more of the same woes for the Vols. It will take a while for the JUCO D linemen to become acclimated to Jancek's system. LB will be a push with the loss of Sapp and Brewer but the additions of Maggitt and Bates. The Vol secondary will continue to improve as long as it stays healthy.

I see a 6-6 record with a win against Florida at home.

We need 9 wins or hope he can recruit well enough for the next man up. Losses are Alabama, UGA or USC, and maybe Okie. Win or GTFO. Lol take it however you want.

Utah St is 7-4 right now, first in Mtn West division.... not willing to concede an automatic W there. I know that sounds pathetic and pessimistic but.... the last 4 weeks....

Mix in losses to both Florida (that's a given) and Ole Miss at Oxford. At Vandy is more than likely also a loss.

Wins- Utah St (I relented), Arky St, Chattanooga and Ky. Hopefully we steal one from SCar or Mizzou, maybe Vandy.

4-8 or 5-7 again.

7-5 is a fair expectation. I think it's possible we go down to Athens and squeak out a W. Same with Oxford. It's also very possible we lose in Columbia. I think those 3 are the swing games that define Team 118.

If we lose to Utah St. at home to open te season, you will see absolute Armagedon on VN and Butch will lose the team and fanbase before they even get started. No way thats happening. But keep up the sushine pumping.

yes look for the same , but the fact is we are going to play 5 teams in the top 25(okla,ga,ala,sc and mo) ,if you thing we lose those then you start at 7-5 , then you have the toss-up games(fla, vandy ole miss) so for sure 4 wins sweep the toosups and you are 7-5,time will tell, we are still 3 years away, got to have speed and skill players I am unsure if dobbs is the qb of the future ,but cbj will have to find someone next year maybe Worley again.play a lot of freashmen build toward 2015 and 2016. I hope I am wrong about next year.i posted back in august we go 4-8 or 5-7 and yes I picked the upset over sc, I thought we would be more competitive this year ,but next year is a little easier .

Agree with this. I personally think playing in Oxford will be tougher than Athens.

Utah state will have Chuckie Keeton back I believe. If Tennessee doesn't get much better it'll be a 5-7 kind of year at best.

I don't expect more than 5 or 6 wins next year. I also expect another solid recruiting class next year. If Butch can pull in two solid recruiting classes in a row then I expect about 8 wins in 2015.

I don't think that Ole Miss game is W. We will go 6-6 next year. Florida is a toss up game.

I say don't count the Utah State as an automatic win and you say I'm Sunshine Pumping? What am I missing? I thought I might get some flak from the "Sunshine Pumpers" for being a "NegaVol".

Anybody calling for a UF win next year hasn't paid attention recently. I don't care how bad they are supposed to be, we lose to those guys. Plain and simple. Will believe it when I see it.

Unless this coaching staff is much better than they showed at any point this year... the above isn't happening.

Ole Miss has talent and will have experience next fall. Their coach has also shown the ability to compete in the SEC.

UF is likely to have a new coaching staff... who will not complain about the talent they weren't left. Instead, they'll use it to win some games.

If Franklin is still at Vandy then he stands a good chance of outcoaching Jones again.

And ALL of this ignores the fact that UT will be rebuilding both its OL and DL plus replacing its most productive RB, kicker, starting LB's, and best back up DB.

IOW's, we just watched this staff take a team with a good many talented Srs to a 7 or 8 loss season.... but next year with even more youth, inexperience, depth issues, and talent issues... they're going to win 7?
