What should Year Two look like?

Being unable to progress from the huge South Carolina win, the Vols will have to regroup for Spring ball. CBJ got me believing, but it is difficult not to consider Year One disappointing. We will all have theories: Dooley-schtank, no talent or speed, coaching turnover seeding confusion in plays / schemes, etc.

What then are the expectations for Year Two? Are we on course at 6 - 6 with a bowl game? Because Year One did not meet minimum expectations, do we have to see major improvements in the W-column? Would simply surviving our schedule better than this year be enough? Does a loss at KY this week change the metric for Year Two? Or does the 8-loss barrier not matter now?

Most elite coaches make significant progress in Year Two. What does Butch and Team 118 have to do in Year Two to demonstrate elite level coaching?

Considering UT is losing the whole OL, which was suppose to be their strength, it may not be pretty.

I don't think there OL was all it was talked up to be...I honestly don't think we're loosing a whole lot. I could be wrong. I hope not.

This O-line maybe didn't live up to the hype but sucking in the passing game, dropping passes, throwing INT's, running vanilla play calling will do that. Some of you will miss this "underachieving" o-line next year if the supporting cast doesn't get it's proverbial chit together.

Hoping for more fun.

Succinct and brilliant.

I never expected us to beat Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, or Auburn (I figured with Chizik gone they would have an immediate turnaround).

But I thought those games might be in the balance in the second half. Of course, Georgia was, and despite a gutwrenching loss, all of Volnation was pleased with the team and progress. Everyone moaning about "worst fan base in America" bull - Volnation did not melt down after Georgia.

I really did expect the Vandy game to be a clarion call that we have turned this ship around. Better days are ahead.... SOON.

Unless this coaching staff is much better than they showed at any point this year... the above isn't happening.

Ole Miss has talent and will have experience next fall. Their coach has also shown the ability to compete in the SEC.

UF is likely to have a new coaching staff... who will not complain about the talent they weren't left. Instead, they'll use it to win some games.

If Franklin is still at Vandy then he stands a good chance of outcoaching Jones again.

And ALL of this ignores the fact that UT will be rebuilding both its OL and DL plus replacing its most productive RB, kicker, starting LB's, and best back up DB.

IOW's, we just watched this staff take a team with a good many talented Srs to a 7 or 8 loss season.... but next year with even more youth, inexperience, depth issues, and talent issues... they're going to win 7?

I'm truly worried about all of the above.

Year Two for elite coaching = substantially improved football team. I think we need to see it despite losing a lot of talent.

Are we really predicting next year's wins/losses without knowing who we have coming back or going pro, without knowing who signs on signing day, without knowing how the team responds in spring ball and summer training, without knowing any coaches that might leave? Those are just the variables for our team. Do that for every team on the schedule and it's obvious that with one game left this year, this is all insane speculation.

That being said, we go 8-4. Lol

I dont think we will beat Florida next year unless something crazy happens. Seems like we can't beat em. It is sad when Vandy beats Georgia and Florida the SAME year while we haven't beat Florida in nine years and Georgia since the Kiffin year.

10-2 lose to bama and one other not sure which one. I truly believe no more than 3 loses.

we will be younger and less experienced in 2014 than we were this year.

6 wins would be a really good job in 2014. really good.

A reasonable assumption and sadly if true I believe we'll start to see an increasingly empty Neyland.

Utah State. Toss up
Arkansas State W
Oklahoma L
Georgia L
Florida L (believe it when I see it)
Chattanooga W
Ole Miss L
Alabama L
South Carolina L
Kentucky W
Missouri L
Vanderbilt Toss Up

3-7 with 2 toss up games. Best case 5-7

Jesus!

If 3 - 9 is truly a reality for 2014, everyone who wanted Fulmer gone should be literally strung up by their big toe in Neyland Stadium before the Orange and White game and flogged.

Can you disagree? I mean I tried but without the orange colored glasses thats honstly how it looks to me. I think these fans that think we have a better shot than not of reaching a bowl game are setting themselves up for disappointment again. Not trying to be negative but that's the reality of the situation IMO.

I can disagree.

I don't know if I would be right or not.

CBJ definitely had me Believing in September. My belief is dented now.

However, he has won big wherever he has been. I'm expecting a MASSIVE turnraround in Year Two despite less talent. Tennessee fans should know by now that good coaching can overcome.

If not, fire Hart and Cheek, and start courting Gruden again.

It will be filled with an absence of negative posters after all wins, and moronic, "the sky is falling" posts after every loss.
:lolabove:

No offense, but the moronic part of your scenario is you. We're 3-20 the last 3 years in the SEC, and are about to finish our 4th losing season in a row. Not to mention being on the cusp of the 1st 8 loss season in our history.

FYI, the sky has already fallen.

Look at each game as I did. Then make your analysis. On first glance at the schedule I thought 6-6, but after looking at each game that's what I came up with.

We will not, repeat, will NOT lose to Vanderbilt next year.

A year in advance, I will slam $500 down right NOW against the first person that wants to take Vanderbilt in that bet, straight up.

Call me a sunshine pumper all you want but here's what I think

Utah State W (hard fought win)
Arkansas State W (blow out win)
Oklahoma L (competitive game, but a loss)
Georgia L (Toss up could go either way)
Florida W (at home)
Chattanooga W (Blow out Win)
Ole Miss L (Toss up, but a loss)
Alabama L (competitive early, but a loss late)
South Carolina L (Toss up, but expect them to be fired up)
Kentucky W
Missouri W
Vanderbilt W

I think 7-5 and I think Georgia, South Carolina and Ole Miss could be toss ups. Florida is at home and should have a lot more experience on O and will get to play them in October when the freshmen are just getting better. Missouri because we are playing them after a bye and Kentucky and we should be getting healthy again.

I think our defense will be much improved next year. Yeah we are going to have a completely new DL, but it's not like any of those guys were game changers. I've been pretty disappointed in Big Dan.

Vereen, Saulsberry, O'Brien, and Lambert as the front 4. AJ, Maggitt, and either JRM or Weatherd as the 3rd backer. Followed with a 2nd year Sutton, Randolph, McNeill, and any combo of Payne, Gaulden, or Coleman.

Finally no more Swafford, Toney, and Arnold. We will be a lot more faster and physical.

Interesting to see what our Special Teams field next year. No Palardy.... I'm guessing Medley will take over

Our 2014 will only go as well as our WRs, DL & DBs perform. I see Swafford, TKjr, and Gaulden being major players for us next year to go along with Randolph and McNeil (who has sorta been disappointing to me this year).

vs. Utah State W
vs. Arkansas State W
---UT Should not lose these first two, but both are quality out of conference opponents.
@ Oklahoma L
@ Georgia L
---I have these games as losses because they are on the road. However both teams especially Georgia will lose big time contributors.
vs. Florida W
---Florida will not win this game, they most likely will have a different coaching staff even if Muschamp is not fired.
vs. Chattanooga W
---Should be an easy game.
@ Ole Miss L
---Will be a close one because Ole Miss loses a lot of the leadership this year. However we are still one year(at least) behind Ole Miss's curve.
vs. Alabama L
@ South Carolina L
---This will complete another Volnation crisis as we will lose 3 straight games and everyone will think the world is over as our record will be 4-5.
vs. Kentucky W
vs. Missouri W
@ Vanderbilt W
---UT wins out the home stretch. Kentucky is still Kentucky. Missouri is losing a lot of production this year on both sides of the ball, and we will be amped for this one. And Vandy probably loses more SEnior leadership and production than anyone on the schedule, plus may lose Franklin.

7-5 record and 4-4 SEC record. We will go to the Chic-fil-a Bowl/Music City or Gator Bowl and hopefully win it. 8-5 Year 2 total record.
