What the class of 08' really means to UT

Can we move on to a point or comment about the situation at hand, Recruiting Flaws.

What are the "Flaws?" Our coaches must be lazy because, at this point in the process, we have a mediocre (by past standards at UT, anyway,) class? I assume by staff you are referring to Fulmer and Chavis, as the new guys haven't really been on board long enough to get any credit or blame. That leaves the remaining staff, who are the guys who brought in banner classes twice in the last three years.

I want a top 5 class every year as much as anyone, but it just isn't realistic to do that in a state without a strong recruiting base. Add to that fact that we have a couple of national champions in our conference, along with Saban and Spurrier, and it is a pretty tough environment. Let the guys from '05 ad '07 produce on the field, and you'll be looking at future banner classes very soon. Until then, expect to fill needs and develop projects.

Those aren't recruiting flaws, they are simple realities of the environment in which Tennessee competes. And with as much flack as our staff has taken over the years, I really don't think anyone can seriously question their dedication to or results from the recruiting process.

Thanks for the link to the banning ruling......can you send me the link to where it says players, and friends of coaches or boosters can not contact recruits. Also send me the link to where it says that if this happens, and is not reported then they face NCAA violations?

This class isn't great but will be bolstered by people like Gerald Williams and Brandon Warren. I don't think these guys get counted in current recruting rankings do they?

Boosters cannot contact recruits..do you know what you are talking about? or are you just saying the first thing that comes to your mind. Having that UT degree must be really working out for you.

I do look forward to seeing G. Williams, I have heard about him for years. Warren makes me a little hesitant, I don't know much about Clawson's offense.

With Cottam and Stocker's size I wonder if he uses the TE position more like Cutcliffe.

Stocker is gonna be a player..So is Warren. Still don't know if he will make it in..but..look for Stocker to be the man next year.

Well...it would probably fly if you had just questioned whether or not our coaches had become complacent. In all honesty, the more I look at the situation this really is a class of "big uglies". Before we start throwing "lazy" around, lets see how we finish. No, it doesn't look stellar right now but:
a) it could turn on a dime
b) barring huge losses to our rivals next year we could be back on top of the recruiting world.
c) for people who don't like Fulmer, you might consider this a blessing. If he can't recruit anymore then UT will not keep him around.
d) I am glad that my profession is not dependent on the decision of 18 year old kids.

Really why is that? Do you understand Laws? Everyday millions of dollars of stuff called "illegal" drugs and people come across a border of our country.

Wait a minute they can't do that........they are breaking the law. This is unfair...I sure hope they know that Volsguy will be telling the authorities on them.

The problem is I don't see the big uglies?

I don't see us gaining a signature from McClain, we have one DT. I see maybe 2 OL that have a chance at playing time.

hahahaha you make absolutely no sense..I'm not saying they dont contact them...I'm saying they are not ALLOWED. Sure, they send them text messages all the time. but if they were to be find out, they'll end up like Kelvin Sampson at IU.

I look forward to Wilks, hopefully returning kicks with Rogan. I also look forward to Taureen Poole combining with Creer in 2 seasons. Finally I can't wait to see Waggner, the size and speed is unbelievable. Once the technique gets there it will be heaven with Morley, Berry, Waggner, and Vinson.

They are scarce. Defensive lineman don't grow on trees. It doesn't necessarily indicate laziness. I would just say lets wait until the class is singed before we get too critical.

allvol it has to be DT not DL. We have opportunities for Coples, Wells, and Wadley. We also have Bohanon, G. Williams can put his hand down and Walker Martin Ayers w brown, w fisher. Next year we get sykes c-hall back and plus whomever will be gravy.

You ever think some of this DEs might bulk up and become DTs? Like they did with Walter Fisher?

Corey Hall will be a DT when he gets here.

6. What programs are tanking in this year’s recruiting?
Tennessee has not gotten many of its high-profile targets, but the Vols still have a chance to bolster the class with a few undecided players. One is Anniston, Ala., offensive tackle Antoine McClain, who also is considering Alabama, Auburn and LSU. Georgia Tech, which is hampered by high academic standards and a coaching change, hasn’t pulled in any big-name recruits. That said, Paul Johnson probably will have more talent at his disposal than he had at Navy, so the recruiting ranking probably won’t matter.

Congrats, Nothing like getting three degrees..

Any idea on Football Recruiting?

I have one... you don't know anything about it and your OP demonstrates it perfectly.

OK... that was too harsh... but get off of it guy.

EVERYONE who calls themselves an expert on recruiting acknowledges that it is Fulmer's forte. One guy that is usually critical of CPF at the Tennessean said that no one outworked Fulmer.

If he weren't working then UT wouldn't be in consideration for all these kids. I don't know why the Vols are coming in second place so much this year... unlike last year when it seemed they were winning recruits everywhere.

I've seen all kinds of theories but maybe the best one is that the recruits for their own personal reasons are just choosing to go to elsewhere this year without any particular slight toward UT.

Savage mentioned UT's coaches even while he committed to Auburn... not the facilities, not the players, not the school, not Neyland, not 100K screaming fans... He mentioned that the biggest draw was UT's coaches.

He specifically mentioned how hard they had worked.

The one kid kind of blows up your whole theory, huh?

Anyone find it odd that New Coach hasn't commented on this thread? I think he has a new persona. Sounds like his kind of writing and back and forth fuzzy logic.
