What the class of 08' really means to UT

Corey Hall will be a DT when he gets here.

Sykes too. I hope UT has them RS at JUCO, hit the weight room, and put on the extra muscle pounds before they arrive.

In fact, alot of schools like taking slightly slower DE's and turning them into DT's. The DT's out of HS are typically slow. A 255 lb DE with 4.7 speed makes a real nice 290 lb DT with 4.8-5.0 speed.

What are you talking about? I said congrats on his third degree and moved on. It was an accomplishment. I have two and he has completed a nice educational achievement.

So maybe we can get back to recruiting.

So if a Tennessean beat writer says he has worked hard, then I am supposed to say "oh you are correct, sir?"

We do not start early, Florida-Florida State-USC- many recruiting power houses put on a summer camp with distinct alumni and that helps with their recruiting.

We can ask for a visit all we want, but we are behind the eight ball, early

I was answering your question: "Any idea on Football Recruiting?"

No... I guess instead of believing a critic who has access and grudgingly admits CPF works hard and is a great recruiter... you should believe what you've made up out of pure ignorance. That guy wasn't the only one. Lemming mentioned Fulmer unsolicited in a conversation about the top recruiting HC's in the country. Mentioned him in the same breath with Brown, Meyer, and Carroll.

UT DOES start early... and have CPF's whole tenure. They were recruiting Heath Shuler by the time he was a Jr in HS... and that was 20 years ago or so.

I've seen recent articles that specifically mentioned the coaches visiting kids NOW that could be 09 targets.

Last year this time UT was coming off a disappointing close to their season and still tied up a great and large class. Tn HS football produced half as many 4-5* players this year as last. UT really didn't have great momentum going into the season then took two really bad losses @ Cal and UF.... then Bama when things appeared to be heading in the right direction. Recruits pay attention to things like that.

Then you got the howls to replace CPF and the staff... again, recruits pay attention.

Then UT turned it around... only to have the O staff announce it was leaving.

Then there was finally some excitement because of the new staff... that was quickly doused by Jones' and Paige's misdeeds. I don't really think the other two incidents would have hurt recruiting... but it has to hurt that there was a recruit in the car.

All in all, UT has just never been able to establish good momentum like they did last year. Murphy has been in charge but there is NO evidence that a lack of effort on Fulmer's part had anything to do with it.

Tell you what though... you want to talk about Chavis not stepping in the gap... and I won't argue with you.

Well after reading this entire thread again, I have to agree with the above. Lots of factual evidence, good sources, and a passionate statement. The nail in the coffin was the Chavis closing shot, well done!:salute:

On the Chavis point: Isn't the head coach responsible for ensuring that his assistants put in the proper effort, and get the proper results, when it comes to recruiting? Fulmer is the one who keeps Chavis around even though he allegedly does very little on the recruiting trail, and even though his defenses have never been all that great unless he has a few All-American linemen to stuff the run and pressure the QB. I just don't see how Chavis' performance doesn't reflect on Fulmer.

I want a top 5 class every year as much as anyone, but it just isn't realistic to do that in a state without a strong recruiting base. Add to that fact that we have a couple of national champions in our conference, along with Saban and Spurrier, and it is a pretty tough environment.

Careful, you're making way too much sense for the "sky is falling" people on this thread.

You don't need a top-five class every year, anyway. It's nice to have, but if you have championship-caliber front-line talent and depth at every position backing it up, you can compete with anyone.

Look at the top 12 teams in this year's final AP poll. Half of them are teams that can be said to only occasionally get top-five classes, if ever: Missouri, West Virginia, Kansas, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Tennessee.

I think that this shows us, how hard and dilligent our staff is willing to work when the odds are stacked against us.

Let's look at the facts......

We have a few million dollar upgrade to our stadium, and proposed two more phases to come. We have some of the best facilities with an excellent facility, Full indoor practice field, and state of the art athletic study center (for the athletes who actually enjoy school)

We have a winning record in every season for the last who knows how many years, we have been to a New Years eve or day bowl as long as most of these 16 and 17 yr olds can remember.

The NFL pipeline, especially for DL, OL, and RB is impeccable.

I see this as a lack of effort. When Ole Miss, switched coaches there was not a lack of intensity for recruiting. When Auburn got rid of DC, they were still receiving recruits. When UF lost it's recruiting coordinator, it stepped up and gained 3 recruit in the weeks of the loss.

Do you see the point here, with an OC missing and a WRs coach empty...CPF could not get off his behind from his seat planted behind the UT BasketVols bench to go out and do the recruiting himself. DC Chavis would not go out and actually handle visits himself, and take care of txt msgs and phone calls.

To me it is the intensity and fire that is elluding UT team from being champions.

amen brother. looking like the worst class to grace tennessee in decades unless a miracle happens.

A couple of years ago it was the offense that was clearly lagging behind. Nowadays its the defensive side of the ball that appears to be behind. When are we going to realize that ultimately it lands at fulmers feet. I don't care him and chavis are great friends. Friendships can kill a good business. Phil has been letting friendships kill us for awhile. Time to man up and get rid of all the liability's.

no one cares about you Alumus opinion. They are plenty of other alums, and non alums on here that make more sense then this. Hell, there are teenagers on here that make more sense.

You might want to leave it to those of us that can construct a coherent sentence to set him straight.

Really why is that? Do you understand Laws? Everyday millions of dollars of stuff called "illegal" drugs and people come across a border of our country.

Wait a minute they can't do that........they are breaking the law. This is unfair...I sure hope they know that Volsguy will be telling the authorities on them.

The lack of intelligence you're illustrating in your posts sure doesn't reflect well on the value of a diploma from UT.
