What the H*** is Kim Mulkey wearing??

Kim has never been a great offensive coach. Her teams are built around elite defense and rebounding. I don’t think she has very good players offensively at this point in her career at lsu but their D has definitely been impressive this post season. They held Michigan, Utah and Miami all 20+ points below their season averages. They likely get smoked in the final four but their D and rebounding have taken them to where they are now. You win with what you have I guess

Truthfully their roster isn’t all that great this year but somehow have made it work. They have 9 new players and most of those players outside of Reese, Ladazhia, Flaujae and Smith aren’t good at all.

They have an elite player and strong cast of players. You said it, they pride themselves on defense. This is Year 2, it might be as good as it gets for them but pretty good ROI early on.

Her team blew a 17-point lead against us and only won their first game due to home cooking. Bailed out in second round by missed Utah free throws with seconds left.
Creek, this sounds just like the posters who laughed at us for celebrating crushing those 2 underlings to make the S16. You play the hand dealt you in the tourney and either survive and advance or not. Kim did, we didn't.

I'm no fan, lord knows I've rooted against them every game, even tho their success makes our ONE win over a ranked team look better. I've also made known my dislike for the vibe that team exudes. But ole girl definitely knows what she's doing.

…takes a deep breath. I respect Kimmie, begrudgly enjoy her as a coach. But I’ve got to admit, Bayou Barbie rubs me the wrong way.

Bayou Barbie is all an act, but I bet the other players she competes again love her. She treats it like what it is: a game. But she also doesn't take herself too seriously. She has her swag, but seems like a really nice person. When the Miami player went down and was being helped off the court, Angel gave her a supportive pat...something you don't see many players do.

I like Alexis Morris.

There’s also the “…she ain’t our Bayou Barbie” aspect… 🥹

That's always the case. I have irrational hatred of Diana Taurasi, but she would have been my favorite player if she played for Tennessee.

Angel can have her show, but there's no denying that she plays all out when she's on the court. She's not the most talented player, and her stats come from hard work, not skill. She makes do with what she has. Who wouldn't love a player like that on their team?

I can agree on all this. The finger licking does put me off though. LOL

LOL yeah. Not my thing either, but she's probably done her market research to decide it's a good "signature move" to get the clicks.

Probably so and I think Mulkey is the same way with her antics and outfits. I like Mulkey - can’t help it. I love that she owns all the outlandishness. Can’t deny she’s a heck of a coach and I think probably a better person than some people assume.

I don't know why Mulkey told Griner to hide her sexuality a blind man could have seen that she was I don't know what word to use lol

Still not cool to ask someone to suppress who they are.

But yeah obviously, the two worst kept secrets were BG's orientation and Baylor's stand on that. Never a good mix.

I don’t think any of us know what transpired or what the intentions were. I did see where someone tried to start a divisive narrative about Mulkey and Miami’s head coach who is openly gay and has a wife. That was squashed by Mulkey’s interaction with her before the game (a friendly hug) and her post game comments about her: “There are a lot of people I love to beat, Katie’s not one of them.” (Paraphrasing) None of us know Kim Mulkey’s heart.

It’s a great tool….if she’s your coach, you love it. Tony Vitello isn’t well received nationally but he’s our coach and the players/recruits love him.

For sure Mulkey and the LSU fans are having a big time in Baton Rouge. From the games I’ve seen the fans are showing up.

Not defending mulkey with the BG saga but Baylor may not be the ideal place for a gay athlete. Just look at the student handbook. It’s a Baptist school so it’s not shocking at all to me.

I recall one former player transferred from Baylor during Kim’s first NC team in 2005/2006 and said she couldn’t take the oppressive policies of the school

Emily Niemann. She was a big part of that first NC win. She was a wing that had size to guard the post and a deadly outside shot. I remember that interview you mentioned. I can imagine it was hard to feel fulfilled even if you were on a winning team if you couldn't be yourself.

Basically, Baylor touted its moral principles UNTIL thoughts of winning a National Championship... even using the services of a lesbian. Real principles would have not recruited her and not asked her to hide in the closet.

Hmm, how about skilled basketball player? But if you want to get in the personal details, I believe lesbian would be an acceptable one though many women who have non-binary sexual preferences do also embrace the term "gay". Blind or not, lots of straight women do not conform to conventional ideals of feminine appearance and lots of gay women can in fact look very feminine by that same conventional standard. As they say, don't judge a book by its cover.
