What was the biggest all time UT upset win?

There have been several.

One that is the most memorable for me was the '01 @ Florida match up. That game was one of the most important in VOL history, due to what was up for grabs....SECCG appearance was on the line and a possible trip to the Rose Bowl.

Watching Travis Stephens run thru, over and around the UF defense was great.

There was no SEC East in 1985. We were SEC Champs , mainly because Florida was ineligible due to being on probation. We both finished 5-1 in SEC play but UF beat us ..

:good!: yes, you are correct. That year was when we beat Alabama at Legion Field when Tony Robinson hurt his knee & Dickey went in the game to not lose it. Nobody had never ever heard of QB Dickey before because Robinson was that good.

Bama in 82 has to be up there, i think they were top 3 and UT not ranked

'bama was ranked 2nd at the time. I don't recall how much they were favored by, but my fuzzy memory seems to think that it was perhaps 12-14 points.

The 82 bama game, the notre dame game I believe 78 or 79 Hubert Simpson scored 4 TDs was also a big upset. The 86 Sugar Bowl may not of been the largest pt.spread upset but that one is probably the greatest upset in Vol history. To me personally the 82 bama game is cause it ended 11 long yrs. of losing to them.

Listened to that Notre Dame game on radio that day. Joe Montana was their QB. Wasn't it the '82 win over Alabama the start of a 6 game winning streak we finally started over those big bad bullies?

So, it's been a while since I've seen anything from the 86 Sugar Bowl and I YouTubed it... if you want any idea of how big of an upset win that game was watch the first five minutes of this clip. It's the Miami affiliate, but it made me want to go back in time and punch those cocky sons of ....... right in the mouth. Go Vols.

That '85 Team upset #1 Auburn, who had Heismann Trophy Winner running back Bo Jackson, at Neyland Stadium that year. They went on to win the SEC East that year behind backup QB Darrel Dickey & a right to play #2 ranked Jimmy Johnson's Miami Hurricanes in the 1986 Sugar Bowl. Tennessee won 35-7 & ended up as the #3 ranked team at years end.

I was at that game. Every time B. Jackson touched the ball we held our breath. The only time I ever charged the field.

Beating Bama in Bears last year was sweet. I also remember beating Auburn when they were #1 coming into Neyland stadium one year that also stood out.

I remember the tv anouncers did not give TN any chance whatsoever to win. I believe it was Keith Jackson calling the game.we were up 2 or 3 tds and he was still wasn't giving us a chance to win.

Didn't have to hold your breath long that day, bo took himself out of the game that day. Our defense made him not want to come back in that beautiful day.

Yep and I remember the TN defense stopping Eddie George in a bowl game against OH ST. I believe it was the year he won the Heisman.

That song is a remake of a Historical song from the early 1800's about the war of 1812. The first verse goes.....

In 1814 we took a little trip, went with col.Jackson down the mighty missip.. we took a little bacon and we took a little beans and we went to met the British at the Battle of New Orleans.... chorus.....

Its believed this battle was one of the reasons we are called the Tennessee Volunteers. So if you ever listen to the original song you will realize that is a very good remake for that video.

Oh yeah ..... Col. Jackson and his Tennessee Volunteers won that battle even though they where outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1.

here is a link to another version the song made popular by Johnny Horton in the 50's.
