My first Tennessee game was the 1989 Duke game. It was fun to see Tennessee beat the hell out of Steve Spurrier's 1989 ACC Champion Duke team 28-6. It was a wild experience being in a crowd of 96,000 plus for the first time(I was used to 40,000-60,000 GT crowds).

The 1st I really remember was 1980 Southern Cal.

I started following the Vols in 1952, but it was several years later when I attended my first game. 1958, University of Chattanooga 14, Tennessee 7.

No lie. I was there that day too. It was awful.

I could handle it as a 18 year old freshman that was thrilled to be on his own.

Given a similar weather day now, I'd probably park my ass on the couch and watch it on tv.

1978 Army

That was my first game at Neyland. Gary Moore ran the opening kick off all of the way to the end zone but stepped out at the 25. UT ran it in on the first play but they marked it out inside in the 10 before they finally scored a couple of plays later.

Drove all night from west Tennessee to get there and sat in the old bleachers in the north end zone. It looked just like John Ward had told me it would.

Saw my first UT game in Memphis in 77 vs Miss State.
