why do you keep repeating this? if you are black you are 5 times more likely to be on welfare than if you are a white person. let's not act like there isn't a soceital problem here.

agreed. she is lumping all black people together with the whitey owes me crowd. while i agree this segment is probably disturbingly large, it isn't anywhere near the majority.

There most certainly is. There is a social injustice within the "ghetto" that has been here @ its worst since the "War on Drugs" (even tho there was no such war)

I totally agree with this. White trash is abundant, and rivals the number of trash from any other group by numbers. Sure, that's partly because America is more than half white, but still.

Yeh, you clearly missed what I was getting @. NM. There was a "supposed" attack on poverty and drugs in the 70's-80's. It was sold as "throwing money @ the problem" by naysayers. The real problem was that the money wasn't even thrown @ it. Yet the public was too tapped into things like the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold war to worry about whether or not their perception of the failed fix was even accurate. I'm not making excuses for anyone, simply calling a spade a spade. There are things that could be done to help move people out of poverty, instead of keeping them trapped.

I'm just saying everyone who is born into this country and/or brought to this country even if it was under horrible circumstances should be grateful. Ever hear that some pretty wonderful things can come out of adversity? I just feel like as world wide issues go, slavery was an acceptable way of living and Eastern countries and Europe were way worse than America ever was. Do I excuse the abuse, hell no. Do I like it when every single black person I meet treats me like sh*t b/c I'm a white girl and they assume I'm racist, ummm, ya, it's pretty f'in exhausting. It happened, it sucked, let's move on. I think saying "Yes, I hate that what some (NOT ALL) of the black ancestors went through was horrible, but thank you for my life b/c if I weren't here, I'd be in the ground, have AIDS or be starving. Love, Oprah or Obama or Shaq or whoever else black person you wanna put in there." I think the good things AND the bad things that happen to a person make up their life and it's what they chose to do after all that is what matters. I'm not sorry we had slaves, I'm just not. But I do hate the abuse and violence, that part is horrible but how long do white people have to pay for it? Good God, my family wasn't even down here in the south until '75... Wish I had a card to play... suffrage just doesn't seem as popular.

Our system of "helping" people is flawed from the foundation up. Look and compare "subsidized segment" numbers from other countries that have used better methods to help create an avenue to get off their dime. (See Holland, France iir)

Did the war on drugs really make the societal problems worse for many African Americans? Sure it's a factor but would it really be one of the major factors, would inner cities actually benefit or worsen without "the war on drugs"? These are simply questions we can't possibly know the answer to.
