What would be the punishment if a fan happened to assault an opposing coach...

There was a coach in 70's or 80's that tripped a player on the field while running back an interception or kickoff return.

It was Woody Hayes at Ohio St. He punched a DB after he ran out of bounds returning an INT.

I doubt all 100k people in the stadium are going to give a guy a standing ovation for making our whole fanbase look like a bunch of stupid rednecks.

Its funny how "redneck" has become such a derogatory term

If people actually knew where the term come from and why, they would be damn proud to be called a "redneck"

I know...right. I'm a redneck and extremely proud of it, and no I wouldn't go punch a coach. Kinda sounds like a stereotype, and not an accurate one, to me.

If a fan was that stupid then they need to be put away for a long time. I hope your not talking about a Tennessee fan doing this. But Hypothetically talking I hope your not talking about Kiffin when he come back to Tennessee this year with Alabama. You would see it all over Sportscenter, talk shows, we do not need any more bad press. Hypothetically speaking.

The only way that would be bad press is if Kiffin ended up kickin the fans ass.

Exactly. It might not have had all the negative connotations it has today, but it's never been a term of endearment.

That is because it is generally used by spoiled lazy little silver spoon twerps who do not realize where the food that fills their pathetic bellies comes from.

Now please excuse me while I ingest my blood pressure medication.

Is this Tennessee's Harvey Updyke moment in the making?

Actually, if that weasel is in the booth, then I can think of several interesting things to float up in front of him from below. Just encouraging things for our favorite VFL.

in tennessee, simple assault is a class a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and/or fines up to $2,500. in other words, it would be a very dumb thing to do.

If I was you I would be very careful of the 100 or so crimson jersey's that have his back on the sideline though.

Aggravated assault in Tennessee involving intentional or knowing acts is a Class C felony.
Aggravated assault involving reckless acts is a Class D felony.
Aggravated assault involving failing to protect a child or protected adult from an aggravated assault or child abuse also is a Class C felony.
Aggravated assault against a public employee or transit worker is a Class A misdemeanor.

Possible Sentences
A Class C felony is punishable by 3 to 15 years in prison and a fine up $10,000.
A Class D felony is punishable by 2 to 12 years in prison and a fine up to $5000.
A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail, a fine up to $2500, or both.

Tennessee law provides certain alternatives to a prison or jail sentence for a person charged with or convicted of aggravated assault.

See, an example of someone who has no idea of the origins of the term " redneck"

Back in West Virginia in 1920 and 1921, there was a dispute between the coal companies and the miners who worked under extremely horrible conditions. During this dispute, the coal companies called Baldwin- Felts agents to suppress the miners uprising by any means necessary. In Matewan, WV, there was a shootout between the two that started what is known as the Battle of Blair Mountain.

During this, other miners who came to support the miners in Matewan wore red bandannas around their necks, hence the term "rednecks"

"Rednecks" is not white trash.

People contemplating this stupid action don't know or care how it reflects on the UT and its fanbase.

I almost hope an imbecile will try it and those red jerseys put the hurt on him big time. Maybe he and others like him will finally get some sense. Hopefully, the cameras catch every punch, kick and stomp. Then he can see the replay over and over while enduring a wheelchair existence.

Kiffin will very likely have serious police protection, especially for this game. And that will certainly be stressed nationally on TV. Which even without the assault and just the threats of violence will verify the assumed stupidity of UT fans.

I'm not a fan of the Kiffin thing either. But at some point, you have to let go, shove it into the past and forget it ever existed. Now if he had personally circumcised you with a rusty butter knife and a pair of dull fingernail clippers, plus taken off more than just foreskin, that would be different.

Not only that, a number of this band carmine caped napes were Black. Which shows anybody can be a redneck. So the Jeff Foxworthy Show's cast had it right.

The redneck term predates the UMW "redneck" bandana by more than 80 years as classifications of poor rural demographic in the southern states. That doesn't necessary mean white trash as welfare and trailer parks weren't rampant at that time.

Klingon has an old proverb relating to Kiffin IMO, "revenge is a dish that is best served cold."

If you're referring to Kiffin, KPD will let you walk for that one. They're fans too, ya know. Do it.
