Whats Next?/What is this country coming to? (merged)

I'm not talking about you in particular. I'm talking about those who would fight to the end about keeping prayer in our public schools and other similar issues. Those are the folks who make the exact comment that you just made, trying to draw the conclusion that there is some pro-religious implications in the language of our constitution.

I'm not angry.

Sure you are angry!

:p

Spot on about the bolded out stuff. If you are a christian then witness to the parents and the child and then you have nothing to worry about.

but why do we care how quickly islam is spreading?

if Islam is rising, that means Christianity and Judaism is waning. Plus not to mention Islam and Christianity doesnt exactly go togther, its just that Islam is much more violent these days about stuff

Drives me crazy, christians worry over trivial matters and the true message of christ is lost.

The exact reason that the "Church" has lost its appeal over the years. There is to much infighting in the church and between denominations today. The message is really simple, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. And a few others about loving thy nieghbor as thyself.

Not to make it too trivial, but this has been going on for the past 1,500 years.

:eek:k:

The true center of his message is simple.... it is a shame people have to complicate the matter.

FWIW, I was just in Boston over a long weekend and taking various tours. One of them was of Boston Commons and surrounding area. The guide remarked that the Pilgrims left England and came here for religious freedom, whereupon they promptly hung all of the Quakers.

Thing about religion is, most people are all for freedom of expression of religious beliefs, as long as they are their religious beliefs, too.

Which is flat out wrong, you should have the freedom to not believe in any dang thing or believe in trees, mother earth, god, Jesus or what ever floats your fancy!

Freedom is every thing!

Because they really do want to force you to believe their religion.
how different is that than Christianity? Christians have a very long and bloody history of cramming their beliefs down the throats of the godless infidel hordes.

There is no difference.

Any leader or group can use religion as a vehicle to justify any kind of mayhem.

When the constitution was written, Darwin's theory of evolution (and the whole concept for that matter) didn't even exist. The writers of the constitution, and for the most part the entire educated world at the time, believed in creationism... hence the use of the word "Creator". Anyone who thinks the constitution WAS NOT founded on biblical beliefs needs to go back and study their history.

Yep! Thats Free Will!!!

Which goes back to the whole founder/christianity thing.

It is silly not to see any influence but on the other hand the founders did not want government to define religion.

For that matter, why do we let government define marriage?

Why do we continually give up our freedoms?

the constitution was not founded on any religious beliefs. The overarching principal is freedom of choice, period. The founders were bright enough to leave out their own personal viewpoints to create a country with room for all viewpoints. That is their legacy and let's not tarnish it by trying to paint it as something that it isn't.

I don' think that is the argument, the argument is that the founders where legit born again christians who wanted a theocracy.

Here we go again...

Yep... these internet videos of Christians sawing the head off of a blindfolded hostage with a blunt knife are becoming way too common. It's just a matter of time before one gets posted on here... :fool:

Like I said previously, look at the past 1,500 years.

Christians butchered Muslims in Jerusalem of all places.

We are talking about Men, women, children, pregnant women.......... like cattle.

People do stupid things by perverting Christ's message.

Yes in times past they did do this! It does seem that we as a church have changed and haven't done that sort of thing for several hundred years.Whereas Islam does this today. And I have never held a gun to anyones head and made them come to church.

Just as in my church, I have seen people under conviction, but I will not go to them and lead them to the alter. A person has to do that themselves. It is impossible to force a person to trully accept Christ.

The point is that it's a stretch to compare Christian display of a scripture passage to the muslim mandate to convert the world by the sword.

I agree that the US Constitution protects freedom of religion and personally, I am opposed to government at the federal level having any involvement whatsoever in the education system, that should be at the local or community level to avoid what is quickly becoming centralized indoctrination centers. But trying to compare America's Christians to folks who oppress or slaughter those who do not believe as they do is ludicrous, even if it is a somewhat popular theory amongst atheists these days...
