Believe it or not, there are other coaches that could be successful at UT.
Have to agree with this. I know a Gator's opinion isn't worth much, since UT is the 1 team UF could lose to even if UT had no coaches on the floor.
And I can sympathize with Vols' discontent, because I simply can't watch that slow, deliberate, walk-the-ball-up-the-floor, half-court offense brand of basketball, unless of course the other team plays run-n-gun and provides the excitement.
But I don't understand why fans keep calling for Pearl, as if he's the only coach with fire or passion who likes to run-n-gun.
There are plenty of other coaches in the country like that who would drop everything to get a major program offer. Obviously Gator fans haven't been in the basketball coaching search for some time now, but there are always up-n-comers looking to move up who employ the exciting, up-tempo brand of ball Vols want to see.
Pearl's Show Cause order hasn't even expired yet, so he's not even an option; you simply can't have a coach who can't interact with his own recruits.
Seems like a lifetime ago, but Donovan was one of those up-n-comers too; he only had 2 years at Marshall when Foley gave him his shot.
If UT does decide to go in a different direction and replace CM, the AD might do himself and the fans a big favor by giving a coach's style and philosophy as much consideration as his experience and success.
Losing is bad enough, but losing while also not entertaining the fans compounds the problem; there's nothing to appreciate from a loss that was also boring.
Reminds me of the Florida-Memphis game the other night, and the national board where everyone was discussing it. Fast-paced, exciting battle back and forth until the final whistle between 2 ranked teams getting their sea-legs. Even after Florida won, everybody, including Memphis fans, finally got a chance to exhale and comment on how much fun it was, win or lose.
Memphis fans congratulated Gators on the win, Gators congratulated Tigers on a great contest, and outside observers who weren't fans of either team congratulated both Gators and Tigers, saying it was the best game of college basketball they'd seen in years. Even the announcers commented that it was a Sweet 16 atmosphere.
Bottom line, it was
FUN; it was a game that had both teams playing at a high level, that even the losing team and its fans could take something away from, and appreciate what they'd just watched... seems like that's what Vols fans really want. They want to have fun watching their team again.
