How old are you AJeray? Would be pretty comical if we knew each other. I'm 43

Off the subject a bit but when you were in Texas did you enjoy Whataburger? I have to have one every time I visit in-laws. I also love the colors are Orange and White!

I always thought Chattanooga had a crap load of Georgia fans.

Most of them live in North West Georgia around the Rossville, Ft.Oglethorpe, Ringgold, and Dalton areas. All of those areas are close to Chattanooga. As far as the actual Chattanooga area goes I see far more Bama than I do Georgia. It's everywhere like the damn Ebola virus in some African village.

Loved Whataburger! Texas was also the place I was introduced to Jack n the box, which should've been named crap n the box imo.

In my high school days just a mile from the bama border (Elora-Huntland), we were predominantly Tennessee fans and this is when we were getting beat every year before Fulmer. Now it's probably a third bummer fans.

Didn't read all the posts but read where Bama is closer to Nashville than UT. Not true at all. I live in Smyrna (15 minutes outside of Nashville) and I can get to Neyland in 2.5 hours. Bama is closer to 4 hours from Nashville.
I have seen too many to count ex-Vol jump on the Bama bandwagon. I've called several of them out. I've asked several of them to name 2 coaches between the Stallings and Saban era and not one of them could name 2 coaches. I just laughed and told them to keep riding that wagon.

One in three "bama" fans are posers. No nothing about their team. It's growing quickly in this younger generation. You know, those suburban kids in jacked up trucks wearing Duck Commander gear, barn boots that have never been to the barn, and their token Bama sticker in the window. Apparently it is cool to aspire to be a toothless redneck. It doesn't bother me, because this same bunch will be sporting a Power T 3 years down the road.

Went to Antioch in the mid 90's represented the Orange since birth. Now waving my orange T where ever the Navy sends me. (Currently Norfolk)

I grew up in Nashville as well. As I see it, Tennessee as a state has benefited from Nashville's tremendous economic growth. The skyline as it is now is unrecognizable from when my family moved there in '88, with almost every building added between then and now. With this growth, there has been an tremendous influx of out of staters, mostly from elsewhere in the South. Nashville is simply a more cosmopolitan city than athens, tuscaloosa, gainesville or Knoxville. Its just going to be more diversified. If you think it's bad for UT, imagine being a Vandy fan. It's their home city, and their fans are easily outnumbered (within Nashville) by at least half of the rest of the SEC schools.

I've been in Norfolk for the last year, working at NMCP! Moving to Pensacola in a week, too bad we weren't able to cheer on the Orange together while I was here.

My state is different because we have two major universities with athletic programs, two additional young but large public universities with athletic programs, and a private school in a major metropolitan area that has a professional team's type of fan base.

In Florida, there isn't one school to choose in the state, however most all choose (if you have no previous ties) an in-state school to cheer for unless you are in the panhandle. The panhandle may as well be a part of the state of Alabama and it's always been that way.

But, if you are from Orlando, Tampa, etc, you are a Gator, Nole, or Cane. You're not a fan of another school unless, again you have ties to that area. Florida has so many transplants that a large portion of the population does indeed have ties elsewhere.

My biggest takeaway from this is that the panhandle is basically Florida's Memphis.

Nashville has such a transient population now. It's basically turning into Atlanta-light.

I grew up in Franklin. In the 80's I remember mostly all Tn fans but quite a few Bammers as they had beaten us for almost a decade when we had Johnny Majors.

When Fulmer took over and we beat them several years in a row there were hardly any Bama fans to be found. Even down in Northern Alabama I would see a lot of Vol fans.

Now, we are back where we were in the 80's. Middle TN is still Vol territory. It's just under siege by Bamma and listing from the Dooley era.

Sort of, except it's not personal.

I get the sense reading some of the posts from people on here that Memphis and those in the Memphis area, for whatever reason, hate Tennessee.

That's not the attitude people in the panhandle have for the Florida schools. The people in the panhandle don't hate Florida, Florida State or Miami (although Miami rarely recruits the panhandle). The talent over there just is more drawn to Alabama and Auburn.

But, there are many talented players over the years that Florida and Florida State were able to land from the Panhandle.

It has to do with the geographical shape of the state among other things. The drive from Nashville to Knoxville is almost the same as the drive from Knoxville to Charlotte, NC

Your reading some weird stuff apparently. I'm from Memphis. University of Memphis fans hate Tennessee but I don't see how that would apply to this board.
