What's YOUR Number 1 Pet Peeve in College Football?

you got a 8-4 Northwestern that COULD win their conference, you saying they wouldn't be rewarded for losing in your system of conference champs?

Bama starts playing an NFL schedule and they could have the worst record in the country, but still easily be one of the best teams.

No one worries about the "best" teams playing in the other championships. Who complains when a 9-7 wildcard team makes it to the Superbowl or a 89 win wildcard team makes it to the World Series? It plays itself out and is completely decided on the field. I suppose there is a little of judgement with the NCAA BB tournament, but with 64 teams, or 68, there's a good chance it'll work itself out.

I would be good with an 8 team playoff with 5 pc winners, 3 wild cards, 9 conference game season, guaranteed 1ooc p5 game, remove divisions and conference champ games. 1-4 hosts 5-8 . The storylines would be awesome .

Very hypothetical here, but let’s say we get back to being elite and we’re a top 4 seed. The Vols host Penn State or USC, Ohio State, etc . I have a hard time believing people can argue against that. OU hosting Michigan. Some of those venues with great teams facing off would be great. The regular season still counts because you get rewarded with home field advantage and then the winners basically play the playoff the way it is now. I would also include the new Los Angeles Stadium being built and the new stadium in Vegas as part of the rotation for the playoff.

Playoff venues:

Atlanta
Orlando (maybe)
Miami
Tampa
New Orelans
Dallas
Houston
Phoenix
LA x 2 (Rose Bowl + New Stadium)
Santa Clara
Indianapolis
Vegas

Maybe’s:
Minneapolis (that would suck in December/ Jan)
Meadowlands
Washington DC (Landover)
Charlotte

My 2 cents. Go ahead and pick it apart.
you would still need a conference championship game in most conferences. it only works in the Big 12, because they have 10 teams (9 conference games each). in your system you would still not play 4 of the teams in the SEC so there could very easily be ties.

it works in the NFL and NCAAB because of how big the playoffs are compared to the field. NFL is basically half. college basketball with 64 is 20%,, even going to 8 in college football would only bring you up to 6% of the teams. thats what allows it to correct itself. with how small the college playoffs are you can't let it try and correct for whatever team makes it in.

Except there was never the possibility of a second loss. If Bama had won the Iron Bowl, they'd have been undefeated, and even a loss to UGA might not have eliminated them from playoff consideration. Given how everything wound up playing out, I think it's reasonable to assume that Bama would have made it in at 12-1 just like they did at 11-1.

The issue is how one values each loss. Had Bama lost to a terrible Tennessee team rather than a really good Auburn team, it would have been a worse loss in every way imaginable, except that it wouldn't have kept Bama out of the SECCG. To say that Bama didn't deserve to be in the CFP because they didn't win the West would be saying, essentially, that losing at 10-2 Auburn is worse than losing to 5-7 Tennessee at home.

There is a significant difference between '17 Bama and '16 tOSU, in that Bama didn't get in at the expense of their conference champ.

Your reply is very specific to that situation. I am speaking more generally. There are all sorts of scenarios where a one-loss team could be protected from the possibility of a second loss by failing to qualify for its conference championship game. I just don't think those teams deserve to be in the CFP. I was asked about my personal No. 1 peeve after all!

My No. 2 is people whining about Central Florida. There is a part of me that wants them to get in so that a national audience can watch them get beat by 50 by Alabama. Then maybe they'd understand why they are so easily dismissed.

My #2 is that the Coaching Carousel Season is more interesting than the Bowl Games since we went to a 4 team playoff.

My biggest peeve is QB's being protected when running. A QB should only have extra protections while in the pocket. No way a defender who is already lining up a tackle should be penalized because a QB starts his slide .02 seconds before contact.

I’ve changed my mind! My biggest pet peeve is UT coaching searches!🤮🤮🤮

The CFP for sure. The "best" teams concept is a joke. The fact that twice you've had teams not qualify to play for their conference championship and still make the playoffs is just points to the fact that it is simply about creating the most lucrative entertainment. I don't have a great idea, but any system that rewards you for losing is flawed.
What I hate the most is the constant talk about the CFP. It can be the 3rd week in September, and I'm watching a game between say Arizona State and New Mexico or something, and the commentators start talking about "if the season ended right now who are your top 4 teams". First of all, the season doesn't end now. It'll work itself out. Secondly, how about you concentrate on the game you're calling instead of worrying about a game that's three months out.

Add to the those stupid Who's in spots during every freaking commercial break. Seriously, I don't care who's in. I miss the days when college football was all about beating your rivals.

Hands down it’s when the refs screw up a call and the commentators cover for them when it’s obvious they blew the call. They’ll show the replay and the commentators will utter some ridiculous nonsense you know they don’t even believe to avoid the fact that the refs aren’t getting the job done.

During the big 12 championship game it was listening to the announcers say Lil' Jordan Humphrey a hundred times.

Funny you should ask. Ok, I'll start.

My #1 pet peeve in college football is Targeting... No, that's not it.
My #1 pet peeve in college football is the referee's. Naw.

Ok, My #1 Pet Peeve in College Football is... Dum A$$ kickers with the number 98 on their jersey. WTF are they wearing a DL number on their jersey for? UGA dum a$$ kicker even wears 80's style googles. OMG, give them a normal kicker number like -4, or 6 or something. End of rant.

The guy in the red hat😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡.

Tennessee not winning.

My #1 by far is the "fumble through the end zone" rule when the defense is awarded the ball. Dumb as hell! IMO, the ball should be placed at the point of the fumble or some other spot but never awarded to the other team.

Yes, this is the dumbest rule in football. The defense should earn possession by actually gaining possession. It shouldn’t just be given to them. If the ball is fumbled and rolls out of bounds at the 50, the defense isn’t given possession. Why does the end zone be different?

Here’s another, and it’s possible I misunderstand the rule because it’s so stupid. But I’ve seen it called multiple times. If there is defensive holding downfield, and the QB completes a pass, you have the option to accept or decline the penalty. If there is holding downfield, and the QB does not throw a pass, but instead scrambles for a gain, you can add the 5 yard penalty onto the end of the run. Why should it be different based on the ball being thrown or not? Stupid.

The 20 minute halftime that last 25-28 minutes is another thing that irks me.

The lunacy of replay was on display late in the 3rd quarter of the Big 10 CG. Northwestern had 12 players on the field that wasn't flagged. Didn't matter, because OSU picked up the first down on the play anyway. The replay officials stop the game to review whether NW had too many players, knowing that the penalty will be declined if it is called. WTH?

It's OK if they stayed in a Holiday Inn Express.
