When the CFP was put in it was to try and get conference champions in. Everybody not in the SEC wanted the CFP because they didn't want to see a AL vs Auburn or LSU for a championship although that was the best and most competitive game.16 I can buy the argument more, but not 8 teams. Especially if they did the right thing and made 5 of the 8 spots be automatic bids to the Power 5 conference champions.
I respectfully disagree with this. I would argue that a team that doesn't even win their own division doesn't deserve to be in.When the CFP was put in it was to try and get conference champions in. These conference champions may win their prospective conference but not all deserve to be in just because of that. If they expand to 8 teams there's going to be huge blowout games that nobody wants to watch.
I can see your point but lets look at OSU 2016. They rolled through their conference and then didn't score a single point against Clemson. I want the best four teams in for the most competitive games.I respectfully disagree with this. I would argue that a team that doesn't even win their own division doesn't deserve to be in.
Best and most deserving are two different things. Every sport except for college football sets their playoff based on most deserving, winning your division/conference. Many times a 9-7 division champion makes the NFL playoffs. College football goes with the best 4. Problem with that is that your best 4 might be different than my best 4, which is different from the next guy's best 4.I can see your point but lets look at OSU 2016. Hadn’t really thought about that but I guess that makes sense. If you fumble out of bounds anywhere else you keep the ball. That’s a good one but the targeting does drive me nuts when 2 minutes into a game a key player gets kicked out. The rule should require 2 targeting calls to get kicked out.My #1 by far is the "fumble through the end zone" rule when the defense is awarded the ball. Dumb as hell! IMO, the ball should be placed at the point of the fumble or some other spot but never awarded to the other team.
I hate the buyouts but I 100% agree with you. I hate that the schools have no spine to say no and now the salaries and buyouts are both spiraling out of control with no end in sight. Remember when it was so absurd that Saban got a $4M salary? Now that’s a middle of the road salary in the SEC. From the coach’s perspective though, if the schools are dumb enough to do it then go get it! I would if I were in their shoes. You’re only worth what someone is willing to pay, and what you can successfully negotiate.
If a university is dumb enough to agree to a high buyout for a coach that’s not worth it, that’s the university’s problem, not the coach.
Good grief. How do you not have a like from everyone on here? I HATE how it always feels like the season flies by. Maybe it’s because of the tough times at UT but I love all football and the college season is yet again pretty much over even though it feels like it just started.that the season isnt as long as baseball's
It would suck for UCF but if they didn’t require a home and home they would probably get more people that would play them. Also, remember that today’s schedules were made back when UCF sucked so I don’t buy that people are scared to play them. Boise gets P5 opponents and so did Fresno St when they had a good run.I guess UCF should just drop down to FCS. They will never have a chance to play in the CFP.
There is only 1 "fair" way to expand and it will never happen.
This. To schedule them now would probably push well past 2025 if not longer. It would suck for UCF but if they didn’t require a home and home they would probably get more people that would play them. That’s what I mean. UCF won’t get home for home series’. They’ll have to just play straight road games or maybe get a 2 for 1 at best. That’s the only way they can step up the schedule and if they want to make the playoff that’s what they have to do. Boise St was in position to make the title game a few years ago until Nevada knocked them off. It can happen for non-P5 but things have to go just right. Scheduling an upper tier P5 team is a good start but UCF will have to sacrifice a home game to do so.UCF would take a home and home from any major P5 school, but that’s not what’s being offered. I know UF would want UCF’s “home” game at the Citrus Bowl, which UCF doesn’t want, and the majority of other P5 offers to play UCF are either 2-for-1 or 3-for-1s.
