When is Warlick going to GET IT?

Warlick isn't going to get 4 or 5 years to prove herself. IMO she gets this year and next. This team has a lot of talent, and it's her job to mold it into a formidable TEAM. HW has been with the team a LONG time, arguably too long, and too long as an assistant. She had a golden opportunity to get us back to the FFour last year and the team played an embarrassing game against Louisville. She and the other coaches have FAILED to manage Simmons for Four years, doing little to alter her game of excessive and poor shooting. I still want to be optimistic--we'll see how the team evolves.

RE Graves and her cryptic message: if she has a problem, or there are team issues, we can only hope she is smart enough to go to Warlick and air her concern. That is the way to help herself and the team.

Again as I put words on a page I wonder how I would translate the coaches belief that her players are more focus and dedicated to defense on the dribble drive when playing against the male practice team - into a game situation. Is it the lack of refs in a game situation, is it that they are males? We've heard Holly speak to that issue and the belief that the players don't respond well to the game plan as been given to them. I can remember that issue being raised over the last decade many times.
If the LVs are doing well against the guys, maybe what they need are better male practice players. The practice players should be better than the LVs.

The season is about half over. There isn't time to make much of a turnaround. The competition is getting stronger every day and good coaching is more important than it use to be.

Another poster suggested corporal punishment as a remedy for poor performance. Not the way to go in my view. The coach needs to be a psychologist, not a warden. Highly motivated, talented kids expect to do well and will move on if their needs are not met. It's important to keep the team happy and inspired.

who suggested "corporal" punishment?

I suggested making them run their asses off for missing free throws but not spanking that same ass... :)

I like her!! "If you ain't hitting your jumper...DO SOMETHING ELSE!!" Agree!! We have to learn to adjust during the game if something ain't working. I really just would love to see each and every young lady on the team to take some time to look within and see what they can do to better themselves and the team. The coaches as well! Improvement needs to happen all around without excuses. We hail we have 3 incredibly talented post players so when one goes down (i.e. Izzy fouling out) we shouldn't fall apart like we did. I agree with Margo...we've lost the respect we once had and it would serve the team well if they could somehow be reminded of that and what it takes to get that respect back!

Side note: I'm hoping Graves is ok...a couple of things she tweeted after the game makes me think her frustration level is boiling over. Something about her just hasn't seemed right the past few games. I know she was hurt, but I don't think that is all of it. Perhaps she thinks the coaching staff has forgot about her with Izzy doing so well the past few games? Not sure. I think Graves can be one of our best players so we need to get her back on track!
I agree with you on Graves, see looks "sickly" in her appearance very dark under the eyes. Kinda depressed looking. Hope she is ok! I think she is a great player and something is not right in KTown!

How does running help with free throws? Correcting mechanics would be more productive.

True, however given the remaining schedule if they were to win out that would be quite an accomplishment. On the other hand they could really nose dive. The remaining opponents are much better than our fan base gives them credit for--starting with tonight's game. I'm going to say we win by 10 based upon the Vandy game.

I don't think anyone can characterize this season as needing a turnaround yet. We lost two games on the road. Two of our losses we were within a basket of winning with less than a minute to play. If we can win tonight and Monday, a lot will be forgotten.

My main concerns are that I want Graves, Burdick, and Russell to all start playing better and I want the coaches to utilize our inside players better, too. We should be dominant or at least clearly BETTER than every team inside. All that talent and tussles with Griner should be paying dividends by now. I'd like to see our guards drive to the basket more for layups and short range jump shots, too.

As for running for missed free throws, if they don't have the motivation to be good at every aspect of their game, running is not going to help as a motivator imo.

dumb as a bag of rocks, eh?

having to run/pay for your mistakes is a time honored & effective remedy. Coddling them and excusing failure is NOT.

I think there are two major problems with the team. Number one is shot selection. Were way to quick to shoot a bunch of long jump shots when that should be the last resort. the ball should go inside or the players that can should take it to the basket. The second problem is the defense hasn't been able to keep guards out of the paint. You take away all the layups Ballard made we win easily. I doubt they could have made enough jump shots to cover all the layups she made. Same at Vandy keep those players out of the paint make them take a harder shot.
We win by 10 at Vandy if we keep them out of the paint and stop the drive for layups. We also were 3 of 17 from the three. I have talked about this before we need more shots inside Graves only got 8 shots in those two games that is not winning basketball. She needs more shots since she made 5 of those 8 percentages are she could do that again.
