When Kiffin Left

I was banging a chick. Sorry. Not a true fan.

Okay, wait. That's what you were doing when you heard? So did someone just step in and say "Hey, guess what?" while you were at it or did you have SportsCenter on at the time or what? Maybe headphones with sports radio? Cuz that's busting some serious casual whichever way.

I was at Buffalo wild wings and saw it on the big screen as soon as it happened. I said every word in the book and my Alabama friends were giving me hell so I wound up punching my buddy in the face that day. Were still not friends to this day.

I'm amazed how much this fanbase is concerned with Lane Kiffin. You would have thought he coached here for several years and he left 6 months ago.

Who gives a flying F*$&! about Lane Kiffin's over-hyped, underachieving, smug, spoiled, average coach at best, sorry a$$???

Lets carry on with discussion of tennessee football. Not that POS.

Lots of real men posting in this thread. I say that because I feel like I've read some very honest posts. Only the coolest guys I know can talk honestly about things like this.

And anyone who is a member of a rather obscure website like this one yet says they weren't bothered (at least a little bit) by Kiffin leaving......sorry but I call bs. I know lots of people who weren't bothered by the Kiffin departure and they all had one thing in common...... None of them have ever known of or cared to search for, a forum to talk UT football. (And yes they use the Internet) So be honest or just don't post in this thread at all. Because you aren't really fooling anyone but yourself.

I was at my wife's parents house in Ohio. Got a txt from a guy I worked with. It was a very numb and sobering experience that wore off gradually. I didn't really have words for it.

From the UCLA game, I had decided that I didn't like Kiffin's offensive play calling (we should NOT have lost that game). I also was tired of his $3,000 suits and wearing sunglasses during the VolWalk like he was a rockstar... I was actually ready for him to go. I was out jogging and my phone starting going crazy -- i stopped to look at it and tweeted "We will be better off for this, thanks for leaving Lane!". All though we are still NOT BETTER OFF, someday we will be.

I was in Morrell Hall. A few of my friends and I made a sign that said GO HOME TRAITOR! ITS TIME. we actually got inside the athletic complex where he was supposed to have his press conference (possibly the reason it was delayed :whistling:). Cool story bro... sorry, just thought I'd share.

I was suprised they would hire him. I'm glad he's got a front row seat to see what Butch is building and how great Tennessee can be - hope he thinks about what he gave up to go to USC. That's not at the forefront of my brain 'cause I really don't give a crap but it's swirled around in my thoughts.

I was pissed off when I heard the news. Then I remembered that I have kids and a job, so I suddenly went back to my life.

He left for a better job in his mind. Nothing to be pissy about.

We have sucked since, and he failed at USC.

It happened, get over it.

I have a feeling he will do well at bama setting himself up for the Florida job in a couple of years if wm lasts that long. Just my opinion.

I was actually reading an article on another website that was about why Kiffin wouldn't go to USC, and then I heard a commotion in the living room. It was my husband using every 4-letter word known to man and shooting birds at the TV when they showed Kiffin. As for my reaction, I was fairly calm for a while. Then I started reading comments on another site regarding fan's reactions to his departure, and the rage hit me all at once.

That being said, it was the way he left that pissed me off not because he left. Glad he's gone because we are better off without that cancer.

I had just read that same article only to go in my living room and watch news of his departure scroll across the bottom of the screen on espn.

Got a call from my brother-in-law telling me the news. Definitely a sick feeling. As I was watching the headlines and aftermath, I remember having a wide range of thoughts...from irritation to worry to actually trying to "resolve it" in my own mind.

I remember thinking, "oh well, the worst that can happen is bring back Cutcliffe for stability...he's a TN guy, and we'll be ok."

Then, the roller coaster started...Kelly, Muschamp, Sumlin, Cutcliffe, Troy Calhoun...on & on it went...and we all know what happened next.

I was in the newsroom when a production guy called to tell me he was just in line behind some players at the Firehouse Subs on the Strip when they all got texts telling them there was a surprise team meeting in about an hour. I didn't think much about it until a bit later when my sports director came and told me he was hearing rumors that Kiffin had just told the team he was resigning to take the USC job.

At first I was mad because I was going to have to overhaul my show. Later before we were on the air it was more of a helpless feeling.

I'm not sure when we did our first cut-in, or our first story online.

I ended up sending a crew to the Humanities Plaza to get some fan reaction. An hour later my photog called to say people we're rocking our microwave truck. I believe we ended up going live anyways, but I'm not certain about that.

Had TV on SC in the next room and heard. I finished business before addressing the news.

I was actually driving to Knoxville from Tri-Cities that morning to pick up some furniture I had ordered. I was listening to the radio on the way up and they were discussing the USC job and the chances they go after Kiffin. Most agreed that he would be waaaay down the list and they probably wouldn't get that far down. Drive home later on was pretty much the same conversation. I get home and turn on ESPN and they were reporting he accepted the job. To make sure I heard it right I went to GVX to confirm. Needless to say I was in shock.

To honest I was never full Kiffin but I just felt like I had been dumped by a girl before I got the chance to break up with her first. My ego was hurt. Then I got pizzed when I heard about O telling the EE's not to go to class.

In hindsight I'm glad he left. I hate that Dooley sucked so bad even more.

It was PBR, and that was after the show while I ironed for the next day.

The scotch was after breaking the Pilot BB Gun arrests. It was a strange few months without a doubt.
