Just curious to see everyone's opinion on when Spurrier will take a shot at Coach Jones. It is bound to happen eventually, it is almost a tradition for the old ball coach to take a shot at our coach.

There were the many times over the years with him and Phil, and he quickly went after both Kiffin and Dooley so I wonder how much longer until Butch gets his glib remark.

My guess is an obvious one with SEC media days.

Butch hasn't really given him much ammunition.

I mean, he, his staff, and his players haven't been in the news for anything except doing well recruiting.

He may not jab at him at all...Spurrier only mouths off when he thinks he or his team is superior to the person or school he takes a jab at. It'll be interesting to see how he handles Jones, since Spurrier knows in a few years he'll be looking at Butch from behind!

Could be CBJ can give more than he gets....a man that can cover the ground he covers without making a lot of dust can probably handle a zinger.

Think he turned 68 in April, he won't be on the sidelines too much longer

But don't forget we just pick up one of USC east recruit...that was headed to Georgia Military School.

I realize the ole ball coach is a cranky old man, but I can't help but see the underlying obsession with what he says about the vols with you guys.

He hates Tennessee. He grew up here but played at Florida because Tennessee did not offer him apparently.

His snide remarks about Tennessee were primarily an artifact of the Tennessee-Florida rivalry, when he and Fulmer locked horns annually. He hasn't been nearly as caustic at South Carolina.

The same partition of the fan base that wets their pants when ESPN says something good about us publicly.

When he was in high school, Tennessee still ran the single-wing; we were the last team in the country to jettison that offense. As a passing quarterback, Spurrier could see no role for himself in Tennessee's offense, so he attended Florida instead. We lost Steve Sloan, another homegrown quaterback prospect, for the same reason to Alabama. Dickey put an end to the bleeding by implementing a more pass-oriented T-formation offense when he became head coach in 1964.

Those of you that opine that he hates TN cause we didn't recruit him are wrong. He took potshots when TN_Fl was such a rivalry. Now he takes more potshots at Richt and GA. It'll come when we are more competitve.

His potshots are a good thing IMO.

Anyone who knows steve spurrier knows he hates georgia above all other things.

Most of the other stuff is who he is combined with the philosophy of sun tzu, which he happens to agree with.

Basically, he runs his mouth every now and then because he believes it does effect the opponent. The more he thinks it works and the more he wins, the more he runs his mouth.

So, when he took jabs at tennessee back in the 90's, it was mainly because he thought he got into tennessee's head.....not because of some long suppressed hatred he had for tennessee.

personnally, i usually think he knows his opponent pretty well and his instincts are correct. i do think he got into tennessee's head back in the day and i believe he is in clemson's head now.
