No we can’t since Bama and now UGA are top 5 recruiting and developing their talent. Going forward Kirby won’t have less than 9 wins/season at UGA. We are behind two 8 balls and it’s not going to get better any time soon

No you are right JP has been on the job less than 3 week's started yesterday 64 and ended in the high 20's, need to let him go now don't we i thought we would be number 1 with him on the job less than 3 weeks.:eek:lol:

There are exceptions to the rules(?) Baker Mayfield rose from walk on to this year's Heisman Trophy winner. Johnny Football was a 3* Heistman winner. :ermm:

Every year I say this and every year Volnation downplays it. When will most of Volnation wake up and stop rating the success of a class on star ratings? A string of top ten classes got us to 0-8 on the field. Meanwhile, Wisconsin continues to be a top ten team with classes rated in the 40's-50's. It's about getting kids that fit into the coaches system and kids who can develop. 90% of a freshman class should be redshirted, IMO. I want to see kids that understand the game, know their assignments, and are physically ready for big boy football.
I think people should study a program that can turn two high school quarterbacks into all conference, NFL ready LB and OT respectively.

I don't give a damn were our class ranks, I want be able to see those kids in two years helping the team compete for titles.

When will we stop hanging on star ratings???

As soon as you come up with a more simple, precise, and concise way to rate thousands of 16/17 year old football players. That's all.

Stars matter but mean nothing unless you have coaches that can develop them, game plan and have them on the same page working toward a common goal.

If you think your going to consistently compete at the highest level with mediocre talent you are kidding yourself. You may get lucky here and there but you will not consistently beat teams with superior talent.

In short stars matter as much as quality coaching.

Wiscy plays in the Big 10 West and Butch blew out the Big 10 West in 3 bowls....not quite the SEC

And Wiscy lost the Big 10 title game 59-0 a couple of yrs back

People who say stars don't matter are fans of schools that aren't getting the 4 and 5 stars.

Stars = talent

Talent matters.

Stars only seem to matter when your team gets a bunch of them. My gauge of a player is who else is offering him. That usually refers back to number of stars. The "star givers" aren't idiots. They've studied these players for awhile. The system is not Willy Nilly. Bama has gotten stars in the past few years and won NCs with them. Stars generally mean success.

You ever seen a team win a NC without blue chips?

More stars is the best indicator of talent.
Like anything they are not flawless.
But to act as if higher star ratings are not indicative of increased potential is just naive

Probably will stop paying attention to the ratings when they stop meaning something. Bama gets high ratings every year, and every year they are in the playoffs. Pretty accurate, if you ask me.

well the star system is a sort of measuring tool...not saying it's the be all, end all...no way...but to not lend any credence to it's validity is laughable...agree, coaching is the key ingredient to the final solution, but without some talented Jimmy's and Joe's the X's and O's can become much more difficult...:)

GO VOLS!

Stars win championships...

Saban wins on elite talent...for the most part...

Lets quantify a bit. Saban wins on the ability to coach up his players. His advantage is he has a plethora of 4 and 5 star players, so the busts don't stand out as much as it would for most other teams.

It's always been this way. One is useless without the other. Surely our last coach proved this to all of you...

Just now saw this thread, and it’s typical when you have a class that’s ranked low to have these discussions. Nothing more than an attempt by the OP to make him/herself sleep better at night over a class ranked in the high 20s. In summary OP - stars matter more than just anything else about your entire football program

I would trade two of Butch's top 5 recruiting classes for a couple of top 15 classes and an SEC East title. How about you?

I'm not saying stars don't matter. You can't win the East with Tennessee Tech's players. But you also can't beat Saban or Dabo with an inferior coach.

Player development and coaching skills are on par with star level.
