Good to hear. You turned out pretty darn good for that kinda upbringing. No offense

No offense taken bud, every individual is responsible for him/herself no matter what type of environment they were raised in, in my opinion. It didn't work out well for my brothers though, they chose to feel sorry for themselves and let drugs be there way to cope. But don't paint me as an angel.. I drink light beer :)

Goes back to late 70's listening to games with my dad;him ranting about how much he loathes Alabama and how they always have an easy schedule. Guess i bought into it at some point. And not much has changed.....hell,even the TIDE still gets a pus*y schedule and cheats.GBO always!

I got into football in 1988. I started following Indiana because we had moved there for a couple of years. I even cheered against UT when they played in the bowl game, while my dad and brother cheered for UT. After that, we moved back to TN and I became all Vol. I started liking them the most when they beat Virginia in the bowl game. Man that at was an exciting game

My parents made me go to bed at halftime thinking the game was over. They taped it for me and my dad woke me up an hour early so I could watch that comeback. When Dale Carter intercepted the final play, I went ballistic.

I was a young boy(13-15) and had a stripper for a mama with no dad around, she finally found a man that was willing to accept the fact she had 3 child's (el o el).. Well, she got him @ a strip club called "The boobie bungalow", some of you may have heard of it, for those who don't know, it's close to the alabama state line! To make a long story short, he was from bammer and wanted his new field midgets to be bammers too! I was told that it would be hard to be a Tennessee fan going to a new school in Alabama and not get picked on. So, when I walked through the doors of Ardmore high school.. I had a UT shirt on! Not because I was Mr tough guy, but because I hated my ****'n stepdad, and he nor anybody in Alabama could take my beloved UT orange and the pride of the state I was born in from me..

Son is that you I'm sorry I haven't' been around all these years glad to see you turned out just fine. Seriously I was born a vol fan Jan.of 1965 listening to Ward on the radio throughout my childhood only strengthened that love

Like some others have said, I have no memory of not being a Vol fan but I can remember when I knew it was serious. My younger brother has always been the type to do things just to be contrary, and he got a Florida jacket when he was about 9 or 10 just bc the rest of us were Vols. Even though he was my brother, and not really a Florida fan, I hated him just a little when he wore that jacket. That was when I was certain.

The day I witnessed the huge non-stop progression of the masses into the newly expanded 107,000 seat Neyland. I stood under the bridge at the main entrance, as the rain fell. Everyone, including the Gators were wearing orange ponchos. The mist was rising from the Hill. It was a very spiritual moment. Oh well. It might of been the weed.

There was that time I was in Gatlinburg and pi$$ed off my parents, making them leave me the keys so I could sit in the in the parking lot, in the car and listen to the 1991 Notre Dame game... they were still mad later... because I was smarter than they were.

I was pretty sure at that point.

December 8th, 1971. The doctor slapped me on the bottom to get me to cry and start breathing on my own and I screamed Go Big Orange!

Went to my first game @ Neyland when I was 10 years old in 1979. We lost, but I've been hooked ever since.

1979 was a crazy year. I was 15 and sold cokes at the stadium. One week we lost to Rutgers and the very next week we blew out a ranked Notre Dame team.

It's no wonder people think Tennessee fans are backwater folks. One of our fans asked CBJ on ESPN the other day something to the effect of, "What did you think the first time you seen our facilities?" There it was, right in front of a national audience. We've got to do better, folks. If we want our Alabama jokes to stick, we can't have the log in our own eye. :jpshakehead:

When I was five nebraska was the first team I remember seeing. They beat Florida that year for the title. I remember hating Florida more than liking the vols and Nebraska thrashing them was the greatest ever. The next year I went to the ut candy game and it was really cold and it was a close game. I was hooked. That is what did it for me. Still follow Nebraska though much less of a fan post Osbourne.

I too was born into and grew up with it -- the first season I really remember was '66 when I was 10/11 yrs old. I got a bit more serious about it as an undergrad at UT from 73 to 77 ... but still not yet hard-core.

Then a year or two later, I went out to see my sister in Seattle, hitchhiked home from there, met a lot of decent folks in many states ... but I never felt so proud to be from Tennessee and be a Vol fan. Then Johnny Majors came home to Knoxville, and it all started to get mo real.
