Where do you stand on players opting out of post-season games (with no injuries) to "prepare for the draft"?

Post-season opt outs (with no injury)

so should every stud start sitting the season if their team takes a loss or two that would likely knock them out of playoffs? Would really be a drain on college athletics.

This is where this ends up until a coach/school with a set puts their foot down

Nor do these athletes pay income taxes on all the items you listed. But but but but but they worked out a lot. It's comical to hear the despair of the P5 scholarship athlete
Obviously you haven’t been one or been around one. They train 12 months out of the year, can’t take a job and do not lead the life of a normal college student. I can assure you being a college athlete is a full time job, They more than earn their scholarships. And if they choose to opt out for one meaningless game, too bad. Deal with it because your opinion doesn’t count.

And I wish folks would stop acting like the players who are on scholarship do not receive anything.

Those on full scholarship don't pay for any of the following - education, training, exposure on national television week after week, year after year among other things.

Many students come out of college with student loan debt in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and no guarantee that the time spent will end up with them getting a job where they can afford to pay that back in a reasonable time.
Let me know when those regular students sell 100,000 tickets to their chemistry class every week. They are more than earning their keep for what they are getting in terms of their scholarship and room and board.

Lol I love triggering people. But I am not in the majority as I can have opinions and am accountable for my actions. I love college football more than anyone. But if they never play another game of football for all times I would not give it a second thought. But most people can't say that. And if your going to throw a tantrum like a petulant child at least answer my question.... Why not sit out the Vandy game if you are afraid of getting injured? Lol

Yes I do. And you are too close to the forest to see the trees. You refuse to hear my point. My point not your point not anyone else's point my point. The athletes today are reaping the benefits of a system that was built years ago. Players who came and sacrificed way before them. And if (big) if your asserted numbers are correct it's because of the TV deals that were unheard of 30 years ago. Why did Al Wilson not sit out his last game? I totally understand if a player is truly hurt sitting out. There was not an insane amount of money in college football. And at the end of the season there was a reward for having a good season. Players were sent to a bowl game and depending on what game there were nice perks for a invite to said bowl game. Alontae Taylor was not hurt last year and could have very well made a difference in the outcome. And it's highly likely he doesn't get hurt playing that game. No more than his risk by deciding to play the Vandy game.

During the “season” they are usually in school also, and fulfilling their part of the scholarship and if good enough trying to earn something further.

I definitely got what you were sending.

However if they chose not to play game 1 or game 5 or all of them they probably earn nothing……..unless they are maybe in basketball (anything after college). Instead guys are fulfilling their commitments, then “some” are deciding (for whatever reason they want) they are done.

There’s a huge difference between “post season” and any random game or not playing at all.

Back in the day lots of guys didn’t play in the bowl games. Some went back home, some went on to work, some just went on their their life. Wasn’t really to the 60’s - 90’s when most everyone participated in the bowls.

I didn't say all that...LOL

I just said I would be more understanding. I didn't even say I agreed with the decision to opt out. I just understand why some choose to. I also would not be as understanding if it would potentially knock UT out of a Natty.

As far as winning the bowl game to move the program forward, I agree with that. I just understand, especially if a player is nursing nagging injuries. It's their million Dollar future we are talking about here.

To be clear, I see the bowl games as an exhibition more than a serious competition anyway.

I agree. Different eras I get all of that. But where you lose me is the implication that these athletes have it rough. They don't have to worry about one thing that a non scholarship student has to. Like how much money do I have for food. Those students were not promoted by rivals from the 7th grade on. But back to my point this just accepting a player just opts out as normal only leads to it becoming earlier and earlier in the season. One example and I know it's hypothetical...

Hyatt torching Bama for two bills this season what happens once Mel kiper suddenly says Jaylen Hyatt is now a top 5 lock in the draft. Two days later Hyatt shuts it down for the season. What then? Man up and play the games or as Kenny Chesney says Get along... Down the road...

Please don't flame for the Kenny Chesney reference

No brainer, “ Go on take the money and run” you can always get another degree or two, or three with that amount of money.

They are the ones putting the blood and sweat into the game at this point, not me.

Personally been in the scenario of being hobbled for months after knee, ankle, and shoulder injuries and will live with them the rest of my life.

They can make the best decision for themselves and I am good with it.

I can appreciate wanting to play for the program, teammates, and the fans but that kind of went out the window decades ago when it became big business.
Just like all the guys who have died of black lung so we could keep the lights on.....oh wait they didn't opt out . I guess it was business.

Most of those coal miners like my grandpa up in Honaker didn't have a choice. These players do.

Get your money young warriors. Many of these fans don’t understand your opportunity.

to your later it will probably eventually happen; however at that point “scholarships” and the like will have to become considered.

To the first point. Definitely know the non scholarship guys have to “worry” about school stuff a lot more no doubt.

However I’ve been around it and I know how hard it is. Totally different level but my son played D 2 ball. Really only the 2 deep (even true freshman) get any kind of scholarship (for the most part). While he did have a scholarship, he still had to do more than pretty much any normal student. From the time you wake up until the time you go to bed……not all year but most of the year. I’ve been around several others as well and for any player worth their salt it is always the same.

I also wasn’t talking about jr high rankings and such; however at those levels most good players live football even then and all through high school. It’s almost nothing but work, train, school, practice even on the weekends. Although Sunday was usually just meetings.

most of these kids gave up simply being a kid. They give up a normal college life (for the most part) and most of them only play ball then go on with their lives afterwards.

Can’t flame I like Kenny!!!

Is LOL the best you got? Sounds like a teenage girl on a twitter argument. We aren’t talking about a regular season game. We are talking about an extra game at the end of the year that means nothing except to the fans. And an extra 15 practices for the young guys. Opinions are like elbows and a-holes. Everybody got one. Problem is on this subject, yours, mine nor anybody else’s counts. At the absolute end of the day, the decision falls to the player and his family and nobody else’s thought means squat and that is the bottom line. I don’t get triggered. I just get amused when people think their opinion counts when somebody has to make a decision involving life changing wealth for them and their family. Your opinion and $5.00 will get you a fancy cup of coffee at Starbucks but that’s about it. End of discussion.

Except for the fans? All those blue collars who pay a huge chunk of their salary might start opting out.
