Where would this program be (Gruden)

If we actually hired Gruden. Apparently the grumors were true.

He was never coming here, his ego liked the attention, but it was never going to happen. I will leave it at that. Those were some great message board discussions and I forgot about the beaver! Glad we have our coach now along with the rest of administration in place. Good times.

I suspect that Hart (or someone at Hart’s direction) at least reached out to see if he would be interested. And I also suspect those phone calls were made to a lot of potential candidates.

He may have said “let me think about it.” But I doubt it ever got to anything resembling a real negotiation.

Just my guess.

We dodged a bullet on that one.

Looking at his timeline-this would have been in the period around the Botch hire.

I'm not so sure dodging a bullet is the appropriate term there

More like dodged an uppercut to the jaw only to move right into a kick to the jubblies.

I mean realistically, could he have been any worse than Botch? I don't think so.

I wouldn't take Gruden over Heupel though.

We're talking 10-12 years ago, so this has nothing to do with Heupel. This is about Gruden or Jones to replace Dooley, and at the time I would have taken Gruden in a heartbeat. He was never coming here, but I would have loved to have seen Gruden coaching Dobbs, Kamara, and Jennings.

I don't think I ever posted in any of the Gruden threads but I didn't think there was any shot he was coming here. I'm kind of surprised by this.

Gruden was never coming here. All lip service now that it's behind us all. College football is waaaaaaaaaay too much work for Gruden.

I was told by someone I have trusted for many years that Gruden flew on Haslam's plane to meet with the UTAD. I never doubted him for a second, he said he saw it with his own eyes. This was someone who is now passed on, but was with Big Jim for decades.

Man butch jones was terrible at coaching but was so close to being elite. 2015 was amazing. He just couldn’t coach a win. We should have been undefeated that year.

Well let’s see. A loser head coach who is cocky, treats his players like garbage and can’t win unless someone else build his team. I am confident that Gruden would have been a losing coach here.
