Which Dooley recruit do you think has made an impact on Jones' team so far?

Got screwed on A fumble call?

That WR laid low his entire college career and didn't even practice at QB just for the opportunity to trick our legendary coach...for one game.

Kiffin almost sucked two years before.

That PUNTER!!!...c'mon man...he punted!

Offense sucked ...that's never on the head coach!

Yeah...you write it out....everything's clear. :good!:

I know Butch, that's unbelievable isn't it? "The WR.....that played QB.... that one day vs UT.... was a QB....... in HIGH SCHOOL"!!!.....bawhahahahaha!!!!!

Dooley beat Jones on the field. Why aren't you just using that as the reason that Dooley is better?

I'm not even making an argument that Dooley is better than Jones and actually even agree he had to be replaced due to W-L record and losing fan support. When I defend him I'm generally only trying to make a point that not everything he did at UT was horrible (i.e. he recruited and built a great offense) and/or that he is not the worst coach/person in the history of mankind. The fact he beat Jones who people like so much only proves that Dooley could not have been as horrible as they all say. That's really all. I happen to think Dooley had a better staff than CBJ (with exception of Sal) - but I'm excited to see CBJ's staff has been recruiting better than I thought they would in the SEC. Now I'm hoping to be surprised again and see them coach better than I thought they could vs SEC competition (and certainly much better than they did last year).

We can't handle facts KB...we need to be set straight by the Wonder Twins. :stooges:

Off the top of my head from that list, I recall Bray, Da'Rick, Hunter, James, and Palardy were coming here with Kiffin. Can't quite put my finger on others.

James and Fulton. Stone didn't want to play for Kiffin but we lost Chaz Green when Kiffin left so that was a wash.

Sure is a lot of wasted effort on a couple of morons that are so in love with Dooley they ignore what virtually every HS school coach in the state of Tennessee has said about him.

They ignore he quit on his team. They ignore his choice to switch a top 30 defense to a 3-4. They ignore everything except their burning desire to hump Dooley's bright orange pants like puppies.

They also ignore players that played for Dooley and their parents, former football players, the Missouri game, the Kentucky game, the Vandy game, the MSU game, the o-12 record vs UGA, UF, USCe and Bama. They ignore a lot.

Iirc Hunter and and Rogers weren't coming here. Dooley needed the classic fraternity blue chip sacrifice scholly to Nash to get him here.

Iirc Tiny wasn't a fan of Kiffin either. Everyone now thinks he is overrated, but at the time he was a huge in state p/u...wait Dooley couldn't recruit in-state either.

Let's be honest about Bray...where else was he going to go?? he had only Sand Diego St and Fresno St offers. Bray may have fit Kiffin's scheme, but Dooley was able to use him successfully by keeping Chaney. So is Dooley really incompetent when he was able to have such a good O that wasn't his scheme?? Yet CBJ wasn't able to do much with what he was handed...???

FWIW, this was Ed Orgeron's idea.

Yeah cause there wasn't a botched fumble call on the sideline that we recovered...

Cause like the WR turned QB wasn't a QB in HS...

Cause like KY didn't take Kiffens Vols the year before into OT...in Neyland...

Cause like Joker Phillips didn't hide who they were playing at QB up to the pt where he ran out for the first play...so hard to gameplan for...

Cause like their PUNTER didn't have one of the best punting games I can remember...seriously I remember how great of a game a punter had that's a freaking great game...he was spot on that day...

Cause like...the O didn't fumble the ball while we were on the goal line...

That wasn't in Neyland and wasn't the year before. 0-for-2. That was also Randall Cobb's Kentucky team that went 7-5, not a team that was 1-6 in the SEC BEFORE it lost all its QBs (and then beat us).

The rest, as others have said, doesn't even need a response. The fact that you're throwing out coulda-shoulda-wouldas (including one about a freaking punter) to explain how we maybe could have squeaked by a team we should have beaten by 40 is beyond absurd.

Also, do these not contradict each other? If you're developing a gameplan for a team that has no QB, and trying to figure out who they'll start, wouldn't you maybe guess that the one guy with a QB background MIGHT be involved?

Dooley sucked. There are only a couple of hold-outs not wanting to concede they were wrong when the "nega-vols" went on the offensive following the UK game. I was a little late to the party but the UF game was my tipping point. They were right and the Dooley crowd was wrong.

Anyone who thinks Dooley was, is, or ever shall be a good football coach is a complete fool. His teams were undisciplined, selfish, unmotivated, and unprepared. You do not lose to KY with a wide receiver at QB if you are even a halfway piss poor coach.

I wish I could like this a thousand times as I'm sure it sums up a lot of VN feelings on the matter.

As for the player I'm going to go a little different. Before it's all said and done I think Croom will make a huge impact.

Dooley didn't do squat in CP's recruiting. It was all Hinshaw

Even if that was true (which it's not) Dooley gets credit for hiring Hinshaw.
However, it's time to educate yourself on how hard the whole staff recruited CP - also a good lesson for all who thought Dooley and his staff were lazy recruiters. Interesting that Worley was a plus in terms of getting CP to come to UT.

Also, it's even possible Dooley cooked up a package deal involving Brandon Staley in order to increase chances of getting CP.

How is that interesting? It makes complete sense that having Worley was a plus in that recruitment

Because if was highly likely that Worley would be Bray's backup during the year or two CP would stay at UT. So it would have been more logical to assume CP is interested in what Bray could do for him rather than concern himself with Worley.
