Which USC players can we get?

Something to think about if we pick up some of these players...

Senior tailback C.J. Gable said he would consider transferring to another school if he were guaranteed a starting job. But as of Friday he planned to remain at USC.

Gable said two schools have contacted him, which is allowable under NCAA bylaws. (He declined to name the schools.) Gable told them wasn't thinking about transferring at this point, but he left open the possibility in a phone conversation.

"The reason I would go to another school would be that I'm not playing," said Gable, who came out of spring second on the depth chart behind fellow senior Allen Bradford. "That would be the only way. This is my last year. I'm not trying to sit around.

"I don't want to get (misled by another school). I want them to be straight up with me — no 'recruiting answers.' Give the me the real answer. Am I going to play or not?"

Gable said the decision "really comes down to the coaches" and that he has "good trust" with USC's coaches.

"Am I going to play or not?"... making promises to guys that don't end up panning out can lead to a bad atmosphere in the locker room.

I'm just saying...

Sorry if already posted but what about that Juco linebacker from Arizona that was committed to UT then went to USC with Kiffin? ANy chance UT can land him? I think his name was Glen Stanley

I would be very surprised if we were able to get anyone from their team. When Alabama was hit with probation awhile back, they gave the same option to their upperclassmen, don't recall a bunch of them leaving...it is unlikely that they lose many and of those that leave I doubt any come here.

Wishful thinking.

true... upper classman are less likely to leave than this year's signees. those are kids most likely to go elsewhere. I would be surprised if the lose even 5 percent of the players on roster

Based on what? He's only been here 6 months with one signing class under his belt.

If the opportunity is there, why shouldn't he take advantage of it?

The way I see it is that Dooley talks a lot about character and getting the right players. Going after another program's players doesn't seem to be the type of thing he would do. He also knows it would generate a lot of press if a USC player came to UT. And we all know how he wants to keep things quiet.

yep continue to get recruits that nobody has heard of. that will help us in the short and long run.

This is incorrect.

He didn't have the grades to get into Tennessee

I just don't see any of them being interested. Don't know if CDD would consider or not but Ambles about only chance of any and I think we would pass on him

I agree. That brings up another point, none of them are really even interested in Tennessee to begin with

I was watching sports nite on CSS and the name that came up that might leave USC was Mustain. However, a couple of the guys on there thinks he needs to stay where he is, and might even win the job before the season.

There's about 20-25 schools between LA and Knoxville that USC's juniors and seniors would transfer to before they would come here. And another 3 or 4 to the east of Knoxville.

The best quote.

Dooley understands that what we have is real opportunity.
So do some of the USC players considering it.

Yep.

I guess Popcorn forgot that:

1) UT is one of the few major schools with scholarships available.

2) UT can offer immediate playing time for Jrs. & Srs., esp. on the OL & DL.

3) UT football is on the way back up.

GBO!

UT football has a similar offensive paybook.

UT football has depth issues and can offer starting time.
