Which USC players can we get?

I was looking at their roster and it only looks like a couple of their players that are juniors and seniors are from the south. Mustain from Arkansas and some kid out of FL. I think he was a DB or LB. I don't really expect to get any of these guys. I don't see any of the California kids that have been in that program this long leaving and coming to play football in the south. I would take Mustain though.

you might be the only person on the planet that blames Washington's attitude on Fulmer.... some of you anti-Fulmer folks are f'n ridiculous

Fulmer was really lenient on his players.

He let some players get away with murder.

I'm not saying Washington was an angel, but Fulmer let it fester.

Lay the law down the first time and then see how it goes.

I don't understand the idea that we are after USC's jrs/srs. Do we have ANY solid info that would lead us to believe that OUR STAFF is as determined to get a few as we are?? Sorry to start a thread just for this but so far all I see is internet pipe dreams? IMO, I just can't see DD wanting to deal with that. I know we need people, but come on. This wouldn't exactly fit the "quietly going about business" model. Basically, I'm asking if anyone has info that these things are actually transpiring??

It's my understanding that their players would have to express interest on their own (i.e. we can't reach out to test their interest). If someone indeed reaches out, then we can begin the recruiting.

I believe this all comes about because some of these players had interest in UT before commiting to SC. But I really dont know?????????? People want to see the players leave Kiffin for UT. It would be nice , but I agree, mostly pipe dreams.

Why? This has no effect on his ability to get to the NFL in 3 years.

I agree that it doesn't really affect Ambles beyond just hurting the level of play of the program due to the scholly revocations for the next 3 years. However, if you think Ambles is going to the NFL in 3 years then I SERIOUSLY need to get some of whatever you are on. The kid is probably the 3rd best WR in his own class there and if you think he will get enough touches and playing time within 3 years to go to the NFL then you are reaching the point of being anti-UT for the sake of being difficult and getting a reaction. C'mon man.

Just posted on ESPN
"Juniors and seniors to-be on the USC Trojans' football team, hit with a two-year postseason ban among other punishments, will be allowed to transfer to other FBS programs without having to sit out a season, the NCAA clarified to ESPN on Friday.
"The second school would have to submit a waiver asking to waive the year in residence, but NCAA rules allow for this waiver to be granted if a student-athlete's first school has a postseason ban in their sport," NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said in an e-mail to ESPN's Joe Schad.
The rule does not apply to freshman who have signed national letters of intent, however. But schools with an interest in a USC junior or senior are allowed to initiate contact with the player, Osburn said."

I don't disagree with that, but as you know, it is much easier to lay down the law your first year or two as coach when the players aren't the ones you recruited....Once you've recruited a player, gotten to know him, built a relationship with him, etc then I can see the difficulty in kicking someone off, especially when you know football is the only thing keeping them from really going off the tracks....

And this certainly wasn't just a Fulmer problem. Look at most of the top programs and you will see a group of lenient coaches when it comes to their stud players....It's just how it is, favoritism reigns.

This might have been covered already...in the 150 threads...but doesn't the AD still have to sign off on a transfer? Could he choose to not release a player to a certain school?

One thing I like about CDD is that he oversaw and installed a process that he developed and fine tuned at LaTech early in his UT tenure just after NSD to help players in all aspects of their lives to better develop life skills and keep them on the field, in the classroom, and out of trouble.

What a lot of people don't understand and fully appreciate is that he did the same thing with the Compliance Department. He has done a lot to protect UT by reviewing and ensuring that the program is compliant within the flexibility of the AA guidelines and working with compliance. This does not imply that UT compliance was not vigilant during the LK tenure. It's not like they were asleep at the wheel and probably had a heightened awarenes given Ogre's penchant for pressing limits. Just look at how forthcoming and direct they were in self reporting during the previous staff's tenure. As AD and coach at LaTech and with his legal background, he truly does understand the AA bylaws and has been intent on ensuring and verifying that the processes are in place so that nothing happens on his watch that would embarrass the fans and university.

While people were complaining about delays in information and a few perceived minor recruiting misteps, he was also busy evaluating recruits for the next few years and implementing his own evaluation process for the 2011 recruits.

Finally, many of you forget that while Ogre, Monte, and LK left town relatively quickly there was a later slow exodus of Clegg and Willie Mack to USC and Reaves to NM. Think they necessarily had the full interests of the UTAD in mind during this time?

That's a lot of multitasking and I am personally impressed with his abilities to date.

Think about it. If he went somewhere where he was the only good WR, he'd get double teamed on every play. With guys like Prater and Woods alongside him, he'll see more 1-on-1 coverage. Ambles is the best route runner in the '09 class. He'll have no problems getting open.

NO. Not for Jr/Sr players. Look up my posts and you'll get all the info you need. That goes for anyone else that keeps raising this question. You'll get all you need and more.

If I was Dooley I would be going after atleast one or two just to make the fans fall in love with him. I would be on the jocks of every OL they have begging and pleading to make it happen.

I think we have a great shot at any SC player looking to transfer. We have a history of putting players into the NFL. We have rich tradition, We can offer pretty much immediate playing time at several key positions. Perhaps most importantly, last year, our OC coached the same offense they are leaving. Chaney knows the vocabulary they know and can transition them very easily into an offense that will be very similar to what they are leaving, anyway.

With these recent turnabouts at SC, having lost Lane Kiffin may prove to be a benefit in recruiting.

Ambles was the #4 WR in the class. Prater, Rogers, Woods, Ambles.

I was referring to #3 in his class at USC (behind Prater and Woods).

Ambles won't see the field for AT LEAST 2-3 years so going to the NFL in 3 years is still just an absurd and ridiculous statement to make.

Ok, and I agree 100% with you.

I don't think Dooley would go after every one nor should he...that's something kiffin would do. but i would have to believe that he will do the same thing he would do if it were any other team besides sc. he has been looking at talent in the jc ranks and we need experienced guys at several positions...it would be hard to imagine that he isn't taking a long hard look at which upperclassmen might be willing to move east. we will probably never hear about it if it doesn't actually happen, but i'd say that some oline, dt's, and probably some lb will be contacted by our staff.

For one that initially raised doubts and uncertainty towards your posts, I will be the first to apologize and thank you for posting what you knew... I honestly didn't think the NCAA would allow a free reign among the juniors and seniors at USC without some sort of permission... I bet those jrs and srs that aren't plannaing on transferring are absolutely pissed right now haha

U guys think Ambles won't see the field for another 2-3 yrs? Fa real?
I totally disagree. Markeith's hands, ability, routes, and skill level will have him ready. He is more prepared to play quicker than Woods & Prater, both of whom got by on just athletic ability and size respectively.

Just wait and see...

I'll take a couple of their O-lineman and DTs...that would immediately improve a couple of our biggest areas of concern.

There's about 20-25 schools between LA and Knoxville that USC's juniors and seniors would transfer to before they would come here. And another 3 or 4 to the east of Knoxville.

Not major conference schools with scholarships available and almost guaranteed playing time.

The OL could come in and make us a much much better team right away. If I was 2nd or 3rd string and would be riding the pine with a small chance at playing and no chance at a bowl I would look at somebody like the vols to go and contribute right away and get a bowl. I will take SC's sloppy seconds all day long.
