Whispers on Stokes' Top 3

No one will have to ask, "Who was that doing backflips off the rock?" if he comes here. I will go ahead and announce, that will be me.

Would be a landmark recruit for Cuonzo. WOuld definitely put some excitement back into the Vols BB program.

We don't think he is a lock, but we feel we have a good shot. He would start here immediately.

Don't get your hopes up too high. There is almost no chance he goes to Arkansas over UT. He has too many positives at UT. Martin gets credit for sure. But there are so many other things playing in UT's favor that have always had him very interested in UT.

I'm hearing he will commit to us next Tuesday or Wednesday unless something drastic happens. Not 100% but TFWIW

Stoked for Stokes

I am sure I am going to get flamed here but I am going to say it anyway.

Let's assume that Stokes has narrowed it down to us and Ark with us being a very big favorite. It would take something very odd to flip him.

If you agree with those two things I think that tomorrows game might have some effect on his decision. I normally don't think outcomes of games have much of a factor in a kids decision but after Saturday our performance on national TV might figure into his decision. I might be crazy but if he hasn't totally made a decision I think tomorrow night will be a factor.

Nothing to shoot down. He ain't going to Kentucky. I'll admit that UT has become more interesting in this race, as of late especially. I was intrigued by the kids impromptu trip to Kville.

If he's thinking of enrolling January (who knows if he is), he can make the most impact at UT, no question. He wouldn't see the floor at UK, and he'd come off the bench at Memphis.

Until I hear otherwise from some trusted sources, I'll stick with my prediction that he goes Memphis' way. But recruiting is a fickle mistress.
Agree with your second sentence. Disagree with your second to last sentence.

The CAO of my company is a Memphis alum, and is plugged in a little behind the scenes. Before this came out, when Memphis was thought to be the destination, the vibe he got from within the AD there was that they all wouldn't care if he went elsewhere. Diva vibe is given off big-time with this kid.

Just telling you what he has heard. Talent is talent, IMO, unless the kid is a serial law breaker.
Definitely. And looking at Memphis right now, not sure if they need any drama in that locker room. They have talent, getting them to play together and with some kind of effort seems to be the problem.

I can't help but feel like it seems you are attempting to soften the potential blow of losing the best prospect to come out of Memphis in some time. I don't doubt that you and every other Memphis fan will be doing cartwheels down Beale St. if he decides on Memphis, rather than worrying about his potential effect on team chemistry. I'm not saying your concern isn't legitimate either, but I am sure those concerns would be instantly minimized, if not forgotten altogether, if he chooses the Tigers.

When Memphis fans start going into safe-mode on kids the Tigers want, it can only be good for the competition. Nothing against you GCrop, but this sounds like damage control.

I'll always welcome a 5 star recruit into the fold, especially when it means that we've once again beaten out the SEC schools for his services. But, at least this season, we've already got our 5 star big man in this class. The excitement level of getting the second is no where close to the excitement at getting the first. Diminishing returns and all.

As for Stokes' chemistry in our locker room, I think...

Talent>Chemistry>>>>>>Coaching.

What up Crop?
Just trying to get the pre-Holiday workload done. :hi:

Not many teams would say they don't want a 5 star. Memphis is no exception IMO. You always want as much talent as possible and from my understanding he has a great work ethic. That being said, Pastner dropped a 5 star in Kendrick last year for locker room issues. Most in Memphis seem to be sick of his whole recruitment but most would also rather him go to Memphis....especially when the alternatives are UT, UK or Arkansas.

Getting Stokes would be equally as big, if not bigger due to him being a local 5 star kid.

As for "Talent>Chemistry>>>>>>Coaching", I am not sure they are getting much of the last two right now.

who is this other 5 star big man??
Shaq Goodwin.

Of course this would be a Memphis fan's opinion. :eek:lol:

You guys are flush with talent, maybe there's some chemistry, and next to no coaching. So, if your formula is correct, you should win the tourney this year.

Nope, but talent is obviously more important than coaching. UT obviously has worse talent than Memphis, but reportedly better coaching.

We've both played Austin Peay too.
