I mean....you've seen our basketball history, right?
Yeah. Bruce Pearl got us to the tourney every year, to the sweet 16 twice, and the elite 8 once. Even Cuonzo got us to the sweet 16. In the last 25 years Buzz Peterson was the only complete dud. Tyndall only had one year, so he is an outlier. We haven't exactly been a dumpster fire. We've been a good program for the most part going back 25 years.

Yes...and South Carolina got boat raced by us and boat raced UK and UK beat us and...

IT'S BASKETBALL. This crap happens all the time.

Yes, but this was our biggest rival. On Chris Lofton Day. And it's not like UK just got upset, Alabama b slapped them all over the court.

I mean if you just stop at 25 years sure, but even still mostly just getting to the NCAAT was still pretty good for this program. You go back further than 25 years and you get the Wade Houston years, the Kevin O'Neil years. Even our best years like Pearl's 2007-08 team still underachieved in the NCAAT. The Elite 8 run has been the expection in almost our entire postseason history.

Sure but you've also got the Mears era. Devoe had some success. We were also pretty good in the 30s and 40s, but the further back you go the less relevant it becomes (both good and bad). The most relevant data is the last 25 years, not the 25 years before that.

Yes, some, but now I'm not really even sure what point you're making. You started this by saying if our expectation is to just make the NCAAT and "be happy" (which nobody said they're happy), then that's sad. But the past 25 years, just making the NCAAT has been a realistic expectation on average.

It’s not the end of the world, but we were a 10 pt favorite. We had no business losing to them.

It's clear to see the Legions of Miserable are out in full force today. They never post in the forum, until the team slips up, to provide their expert takes and analysis.

That aside, this game matters. It's our biggest rival, on our home court, and on a day where we honor a Vol legend from Kentucky. The loss hurts our résumé, our position in the SEC standings, and potentially our seeding. This is never a game anyone should be "OK" losing. It doesn't ruin our season by any means, but it hurts in the moment.

We lost this game on the glass and Kentucky got to the line more often than Tennessee did.

Kentucky played better defense than I thought that they would.

You are the one that started this tangent. You claimed Barnes has exceeded previous expectations of our program and the program historically is not a winning program. I'm arguing that the program is not historically a bad program and Barnes has not elevated it beyond what it has been capable of in the past. He hasn't reached any kind of new heights that we haven't been capable of previously. He is a great recruiter that repeatedly wastes NBA talent, and too many of our fans seem to think he is some "Mount Rushmore" level coach, but the truth is that he does less with legit elite talent than most other "hall of fame coaches".

Cuonzo did more with less. Pearl did more with less. Top 25 coaches all over the country do more with less every year. I don't know who we could get that would do better, but if we want to win championships it isnt happening woth Barnes.

Lol on Cuonzo. While it was inexperienced, Cuonzo’s first team had 6 top 100 players and added Stokes at the semester. Lost to Austin Peay. It’s crazy how people have to resort to inaccuracies to just put down our current coach. Counzo had 2 NBA players at Cal and did squat.

What? Cuonzo had one good NCAAT run with a favorable draw. WTF are you talking about Pearl did more with less? This is starting to shape up that you're just anti-Barnes, not that you're actually making a point.

Where did I claim that? Show me the quote.

And historically we aren't a bad program, but we're not that good either. You keep moving the goalposts.

I don't know why so many say this Ky team is terrible. They also are slow to get it together because of so many new players.

Ky is not going to the NIT. They are about to show most of you their true colors. How many SEC losses do they have, maybe 3? They have a very good chance at being top tier
before this season is over. Yes, we played badly, but that will happen 2-3 times for almost every team. It's a long season. Just need to forget this one.

You have zero clue, we have one of the best defenses in the country. We can beat anybody. Question is, will we?
And with the stale offense they can lose to almost anyone in the tournament. The sweet 16 is their ceiling but I could also see the usual post season Barnes and lose in the round of 32

Cuonzo won 3 games in one NCAA tourney. Little Ricky has won 1 in the last 3 years.

That team that won 3 games in one tourney was in the First Four. That means we were one of the last 4 in. That team also had 3 NBA players on it and Counzo was on the bubble all season long. THAT team needed a miraculous 14-seed Mercer to upset Duke or we never would have made the Sweet 16 team. Good grief.

Some of the posters are rite on this one about Tournament, but 67 other teams can say they suck because only one wins the whole thing
